great interview. im an elderly artist myself. i loved to draw so became a printmaker first and later became a painter. listening to Phil was like talking to myself. ideas, methods, approach, drawing as a addiction, etc. he dropped so many lines that i have used over the years. I've noticed other interviews along this line and it's amazing how we think a like. especially artists who have had and find figurative work important. It seems to me artists are aware of nakedness, bullies, mirrors, mark making and many things we find interest in. I loved when he said something to the effect, if it's boring we start looking for something else. I think abstract artists miss so much of the sensual way of interpretation that wet paint and the figure afford even with an ipad. his work was exceptional and the ipad is a tool i have used since it came out. thanks for the great interview to both of you.
Lovely interview and work. It would have been better if the images display showed what media was used: digital, gouache, watercolor, oil? Very important. Otherwise good. At 15:42, is that gouache or digital--makes a big difference to know. Thanks.

Really glad that you enjoyed the interview Ron, thanks for your thoughtful comments.
Late to the party. But thank you both. I love Phil's work - such an interesting and useful discussion.

Thanks for the feedback John. The painting at 15:42 is in oils - do feel free to ask about any others that you're unsure of!
