I quite like the look of it. If nothing else, it looks _different_ and that's always worth something in my book. In fact, I've put it on my wishlist at Thomann. Having said that, though, I don't have that much space for an extra keyboard, even a small keyboard, so don't expect it to arrive at my place any time soon.
Absolutely love the natural aluminum of the Minilogue original. It reflects light and it is easy to work on with contrasty knobs and surface. Wish all synths were just like the Minilogue. Just like I miss all that stereo gear from the 1970s with a natural color aluminum face plate. Black paint prevails though, now for 50 years. Don't forget there is a third oscillator, a sub when in MONO voice mode.

Korg are great at funky little cost effective synths. They have a great line-up at the moment. I'm wondering if it's getting to the time for korg to release a new flagship as the Kronos has been with us for a long time now. I personally love the compact range including the new King korg. I wound love them to release a Karma in the same format as it is one of my favourite keyboards and still use mine today. Cheers Woody. Great video as usual

Keep it, I say. It makes a fine addition to the Shack and something you will probably get a lot of use out of over the next few years, at least.

Woody - nice demo. I appreciate your opinions and really enjoy watching you go though gear (especially gear that I don't own like the Yamaha Genos2 LOVE those videos) I personally really DO like the look of this synth. I think the red looks cool, personally I would have LOVED it if they did the whole notes RED, and the sharps//flats black... If you have ever checked out any of my videos you probably know I have a soft spot for Red White and Black haha. Anyway keep up the great work!

Great video Woody! I have been thinking about trying other combinations out like Rhodes and a bass synth. I'm trying to decide which Bass synth to try. I want something that can emulate Herbie Hancocks sound on Chamelion or something phat and funky with some nice glide. Let me know if you have other recommendations
I'll guess the shocking truth is it's not that great for bass? My favorite bass sound on it is the filter - crank the resonance and lower the cutoff, set filter tracking to 100%, and you can play the filter. Try the 12 db vs 24 db filter (switch back and forth).
When adding in some oscillators, for bass, it helps to be in unison mode or mono mode. Switch back and forth to hear the difference.
In poly voice mode, for pads, I like using an external chorus pedal to widen and fatten up the sound.
To me, the Minilogue sounds best in duo voice mode. It's like unison but you can play 2 notes at a time. If you switch to unison mode, make sure to adjust the voice spread to taste (the parameter knob in the voice mode section of the front panel).
The motion sequencer can be used as part of the patch - it can make up for only having 1 LFO that's limited to 3 destinations... so, learn how to use the motion sequencer. Also, the delay is really dirty sounding... but if you like lofi sounds, it's great. In addition to normal delay sounds, try some faster (shorter) delay times with longer feedback. See whether you can dial something in that fits with what you're playing.
That's my Minilogue advice🤣. In a few hours, I'll see how different yours is😂🤪

As I previously stated, I like the Minilogue Bass design. I know, I know; it's a strange look. But I like the red/black look. It reminds me of wearing a red tie with a black shirt. I dig it.

Love the colour of this version and also the new inverted Minilogue XD that is coming out.
I use to have the Minilogue OG and sold it and have the XD now but have to say they have different sound and filters and with the Original minilogue you can pass audio through it and not so with the XD. I love the XD but will get the Minilogue again.
The Minilogue Bass has the same filter as the original Minilogue, and that filter loses all bass when you turn up the resonance.
The Minilogue XD on the other hand has a different filter and it does not loose bass when you turn up the resonance. So I find it puzzling that Korg took the filter that loses all its bass and put that one into a "bass version" of the Minilogue ...

I would probably exchange it for the regular version, but the colour scheme has some goth appeal to it from a visual point of view when used on stage. It wouldn’t look out of place in a Welle Erdball style act either. I don’t know if that was the intend behind the colour scheme but I can see it being useful there for it’s visual style.

AKAI Mini has three colour versions, including black and red, so there must be a market for this kind of keyboard.
You could make a whole episode on the use of the color black for musical instruments. It just doesn't make sense from an ergonomic point of view. Music instruments are often used in a dark environment and try to find a specific knob you don't use that often. Most DJ controllers are black. When Pioneer or InMusic offer a white version of their dj gear it is always a special edition and they sell out in a minute. Technically, black plastic was used to stop degradation of plastic through UV radiation. But lots of instruments have an aluminium front plate. Roland had plenty of silver groove gear. It is all black now. In marketing they say that black is less related to opinions than other colors, certainly in markets where customers are in majority male. Still, it is stupid. The only instruments I can handle without switching on 1000 lights are an akai s1100, the x7000, the old MPCs.
Whoa the mythical presets, red is fine, will distinguish it in a potential sea of normal colored keybeds
I love the red - black keys scheme, but don't adivice anithing at all. I find more relevant the (bad) ergonomics of the black panel you mentioned, and the extra features of the extended version. Can't say if the special preset set may worth the differences with the extended version.
The black looks great on the Minilogue! I prefer it over the OG look. Red and black keys however, I dont know...
Sounds: great. Colours: great. Swirly design: reminds me of early 2000s tribal tattoos or "tramp stamps".

I LOVE the color scheme. But then, I love the red of the Behringer Neutron, too. Maybe I like red.
I may buy this, just not for the bass. I don't have a polyphonic synth yet. This would seem to be a good starter polyphonic synth. The Pro-800 from Behringer would be cheaper, but I'm not sure it sounds better.

I had one for 3 months at the beginning of the plandemic when they were on sale for $1300. I was lucky to be able to return it. I thought it sounded like dog bollocks.

Great video, as expected Woody, with some great music too. Personally, I would suggest you return it and exchange it for the Monologue module version, which takes up less space and you can play it with one of your bigger keyboards, and have proper pitch and mod wheels. Good luck, whatever you decide.

I think the original Minilogue has the best looks, but the XD has the most versatility due to the extra features. I wish we could get an XD in the silver chassis, maybe just a slightly darker color.
But if I remember correct, Minilogue XD doesn’t have full ADSR filter envelope, it’s only AD envelope and it’s a big no from me. :))

I guess you say it like a "monologue" but with "mini" in the begining ;-) I love the color theme and the reflective drawings? I have the minilogue xd pearl white that I love also. This one is an absolute Yeah for me. Anyway you can play it through a master keyboard. This is a nice video, and as always with beautiful music. I admire your skills. Take care Woody.

I loved the original Minilogue and its timeless design, but didn't fancy the filter as it thinned out the frequencies as you open the filter with the resonance cranked up. The xd had a completely different filter and sounded way more in your face. Yet I still miss the orginal. The mono mode was great and never made it to the xd. A real shame
seems like each one has its own pros and cons, i don't mind the resonance cutting the lows, it didn't do moog any harm :)

Didn't try but this should work. 1) Do sysex dump, edit device ID in header, load sysex dump. 2) Enjoy those patches without red sharps.

My opinion: since you only intend to keep this temporarily, I say use it and when you are ready sell it and get an XD.
i like simple things and wonder if i actually would prefer the ML over the ML XD. we'll see!
I kinda like the look of this i wouldnt want all my instruments to look like this but in this case its nice but if i were buying i would just get the regular Minilogue.
On the original Minilogue, take a silver color felt pen (Sharpie) and trace the lines on the top of the knobs for an easy to see indicator.
saw some guys who had done that, tempting, but would harm resale value. have another solution in mind...:)
Yes, there is knob replacement, but they were not available during cv19 time. The aluminum knobs were quite attractive. I think you did this on one of your videos on a Korg Electribe2 years ago?? @@WoodyPianoShack

I'd keep it myself - I like the red/black keys. It definitely does the job it was designed for musically. Aesthetically it's a work of art and a talking point.
But, if you can't stand looking at it, then you're probably not going to play it ...

Woody, you need to get in touch with your inner Goth. Those keys are gorgeous, and eventually you’ll come to appreciate them. Just imagine yourself scoring a Mary Shelley, or Bram Stoker sound track.
Korg has a history of producing special keyboards with black keys, as do others in the industry such as Waldorf, Studio Logic, Clavia, etc.
And dude, why do you keep a set of binoculars at your bedroom window?
i don't mind inverse keys as in the brands you mention, it's the red ones that look ugly! the binocs are in the hallway, since the view out that window is the ocean! honest!

Okay, you asked. I don't see a problem with the colors of it. No, it's not normal back and white keys, but when I play, I don't look at the color of the keys to see where my fingers are. It most certainly will stand out in your rig, that's for sure (for those who can see it), but if it makes the sounds you want, and you can play it properly without the need to discern keys by their color, I don't really see what difference it makes. My two cents, for what it's worth

I was pretty annoyed that they didn’t make the presets available to those of us with the original Minilogue. Although after hearing the first 10, it makes me realize that most of them wouldn’t be to my taste anyway. And while I’m generally a fan of more interesting color schemes than the original Minilogue, I personally much prefer it over what they did with the bass. I wish I could’ve gotten the Minilogue in the color schemes of the Monologue.
I like it. I'm sure the designer took no inspiration at all from Arturia Minis. Any ressemblance would be coincidence.
In my life getting of original and good items, was often tainted with regret. But I am a bit of a hoarder crossed with a sentimental fool. Red like for the wine could be an acquired taste ;-) Put it away for a week or two, then take it back, you 'll see what you think of it. Or use a wise decision trick like ...flipping a coin :-)

I think the red and black keys would be potentially cool in a live rig where they were visible to the audience-maybe with an angled stand or something. But you clearly don’t like them, so don’t force it!

Strange they decided to do the regular minilogue the " bass" model when the xd would be more suitable for that.....probably it's a marketing decision to boost the sales of the older brother....

I dont hate the look of the keyboard. I hate the size. Three octaves is kind of Ok on a monosynth, but on a polysynth, it's as useful as a 3-inch penis. Better than nothing maybe, but frustrating and not much fun. But Korg seems to love this form factor, putting it on the WaveState, Op6 and ModWave as well/ All of which are polyphonic.
@geoffk777 A 3-inch penis will also do the job - with a bit of imagination ;-)
But you are right, I don't dig the smaller keys much.

Minilogue Darth Vader Edition!
The knobs feel cheap. I have some of them in my PA4X and it's a shame because the Pa4x was the flagship arranger in the previous generation. If you really like the sound of the Minilogue you should sent it back and buy the module version instead, and by doing thart you will also get rid of the cheap keybed (because KORG use very poor keybed for their entry level synths) and remote control the Minilogue Module from your Pa5X or even the Bass station 2 (I sold it 3 months ago and I know the keybed is great, sadly only 37 keys).
i don't have any issue with keys, they feel fine for minis. alternatively i would be playing it dawless with keystep which is no better. also the knobs feel good for a cheap synth, they are chassis mounted to top panel and not just sticking up from the circuit board. interesting comment, thanks for posting.

Get rid and exchange for the regular one.
minilogue Bass is an expensive color variation model. The black chassis and keyboard are dusty and requires frequent cleaning.
Like the colour scheme - nice to stand out on stage… but not impressed with the presets….
XD is better synth but you’d probably be best keeping the bass over the OG. If nothing else the Bass will be worth more when you sell it.
i was thinking about that, or i might find it harder to find a buyer...

The Bass is a special edition and there’s not many for sale second hand, in fact I’ve not personally seen one here in the UK and I’m always on Facebook marketplace trying to find a bargain lol. There’s always loads of OG minilogues for sale. Some as cheap as £250. I think there’s always someone who’d prefer the special edition. Although nothing is certain, tbh I don’t think the minilogue bass was Korg’s best ever idea.

Yes, these red keys are terrible, I couldn't stand that in my studio, or hiden in a corner under a tarp with long MIDI and audio cables.
