  • Let's explore the retro games at the Fuji Mall. What makes this trip worthwhile is that I was the only person in the store!

    Prices are all over the place on that Surugaya branch, there are a few hits though and the prices on hardware are “meh” at best. But the stocks are really good, especially if there’s a need to shop with other merch as well, especially toys.
    That SFC Jr though will be a thing to look out for, with RGB output being the fad nowdays 😅

      @RetroReWire  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, so many things to browse at this shop. In the followup video we'll browse the aisles and sew what potential treasures await.
      I picked up a SuperFami Jr last month. I'd a great piece of hardware, cheers!

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With a weak yen, prices can only go up. Some of their partner shops have even reduced their hours, opening as late as 12pm! I suspect this is done to reduce operating costs. Cheers!

    Woah, lots of rare games here! Prices are a mixed bag though. That GB Micro (Famicom Edition) for 14850 yen is a great price.
    Fire Suplex for the AES has been a cheaper title for a long time but I rarely see it for some reason. Gotta check it out if it's any good...

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, lots of harder to find games can be found here. Prices are definitely all over the place with some deals and some things priced higher than normal. The hunt will continue as we both know there are still deals to be had, haha. Cheers!

    Hi JJ another killer vid. It always amazes me in these dept type stores. So many $$$ tied up in stock, so much stock... yet no customers? Well, very few. It seems like a terrible business model. Can you elaborate? Thanks bro!

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect that retro games at these shops don’t move as much as trading cards and figures. But it was strange in that I was the only customer for what seemed like long stretches of time. I only saw a handful of people during my visit. Other stores in the mall, like the grocery store, were packed. Just one of those days, I suppose. Cheers!

      1) He said he went in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. Not even the local kids are out of school yet.
      2) This is technically a Tadaya, a small local store that Surugaya partnered with, so it is not a full Surugaya-brand store. This Tadaya is located in Fukiage out in the middle of nowhere Saitama, quite a distance away from the nearest train station, so you're not going to see that many non-locals way out there. Unlike the Surugaya stores in Tokyo, this store won't see any foreign tourists there throughout the day.

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a tough one. Prices can be similar if the game/hardware is in pristine shape. Moreover, different regions can have pricing differences, too. These shops are sometimes franchises that have their own pricing methods. With that said, I’ve had the most luck at Hard Off. Cheers!

    A very nice stock of hardware in very good condition, on the other hand I find the prices a little high, right?

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On average, the pricing are a tad higher on certain goods. On the other hand, the prices are not too bad for those coming into japan with dollars, euros, pounds, etc. Also, the prices I quote include a 10% sales tax that doesn’t apply to tourists. Surugaya, as I understand it, is a tax free shop. Cheers!

    I play all of my retro games on retroarch with a launchbox frontend. Have 11k games for all systems on my laptop that I take everywhere. I don’t understand why people spend all this money on this. 133000 yen is 1.3k dollars. That’s just ignorant for a game that can be emulated for free.
