Wasn't this airing the same time there was like 90 inches of snow in Chicago?? (Lol) If so, I loved how it was just no big deal... there wasn't wall-to-wall 24/7 news coverage of the snow. Everything just ran as normal. Good times. 😌
i don’t know what happened to people over the past 10 years or so. everybody became punks who all of a sudden can’t handle 90 inches of snowfall. at the risk of sounding like my granddad, you just dealt with it and found a way. but, now the places that used to be the refuge from the storms, are now getting 90 inch snowfall, too. i guess that’s where the hysteria really comes in.
Surprised S&H Green Stamps were still prominent in Chicago at the time (A&P commercial at 12:10). In Minneapolis where I'm from, almost everybody stopped giving them by about 1975.
Jim Ruddle & Chuck Henry, how I remember watching NBC local news in the afternoon, what memories
At 4:32, I think that's John Lawlor interviewing people. He would later play a headmaster or something in the early "Facts of Life" episodes.
Weird to think how the Carson show was seen by so many people. I think we had this on every night growing up.
Loved the Chicago tribune article. What a great service you are doing.
Boy did they get that wrong, we got 20 inches of snow that week.
Greg Gumble obviously didn’t have the nice fro his brother had in 1979
Wow, had no idea he wears a hair piece.
Gumbel
8:56 Greg Gumbel sports report.
He looks funny bald. I’m used to watching him with his Afro
I was born the day after this aired

This aired about three days before it started snowing, so there wouldn’t have been any major weather news to hype or not hype.

Jerry Taft's prediction of snow was a little light. The city got dumped on big time that weekend.
Look at the young Greg Gumbel. Good God. His hair ran away from him then 🤣😂
Finally, the color version of the Richard Pryor Wanted record album TV commercial!
Now if we could just find a color version of that crazy Krazy Glue commercial...
Ed must've been off that week to have Doc fill in for him.
Johnny mentions it in his monologue.

The biggest news story was the terrible winter weather the city had to endure and even the mayor at that time got voted out for his response.

News programs don’t have a commentary segment anymore. Too bad…
