Thank you. Such a creative way. I throw the pieces in my vita mix to process a Powder for a baby food for my 6 month old toothless granddaughter! Rehydrate for a purred baby food. Yummy and so healthy
I'm so inspired by your videos. I get overwhelmed sometimes when I think of how to prepare for 8 people and you give me hope. Thanks you are a lovely person!
Great idea! I will definately do this every time there is a sale on sweet potatoes. Instead of boiling them I would suggest cooking them in a slow cooker. That way they are cooking in their own juices & you don't have to worry about over cooking =)
Right back at ya -- I always get excited when I see there's a new Dehydrate2Store video in my subscriptions! Now, if you're going to do a lasagna bed to plant in right away, you'll want to layer with FINISHED compost, not the "raw" materials like did as well as peat moss, top soil, and so forth. We're having a very wet, COOL late summer / early Fall and I'm having trouble getting tomatoes, etc. to ripen on the vine.
I just did 40 lbs with this method (much easier), thanks so much Paula and Tammy. What I did was I baked about 20 lbs at a time in batches and each pan I cooled and peeled and put them in a plastic bag and stored them in the fridge while I was running a batch through the dehydrator about 10 to 12 hrs. I started the night this video came out and it made the whole thing so much easier.
Thanks very much i wish i could afford your book but im on a budget that won't allow the extra cost .but thanks for your videos .tell miss Paula thank you i was researching how to dehydrate sweet potatoes. Perfect timing .
Great idea. I also roll my pie crust between two sheets. When I go to place the dough on the pie pan I roll everything, place the dough's edge where I want to start, and unroll while peeling the outside sheet. This might help placing the sweet potato mash on the screen.
Ohhhhh -- vege chips like the expensive ones in the stores. (I love those). I never thought of THAT application -- brilliant!! I'm going to try that!!! Of course, I'm going to add salt to 'em, otherwise they'd be waaaay too healthy and my body would reject them.
Michigansnowpony my daughters stepmom just died of ovarian cancer, my daughter has stage 4 lymph cancer, my next door neighbor has 3/4 of her colon cut out getting chemo and blood transfusions for Crohn's disease, and my girlfriend just died of bone cancer...NO NUTRIENTS PEOPLE!! My girlfriend, Sammy died last year of cancer, ALONE IN HER APARTMENT....she did get hospice but wouldn't allow anyone to visit. Is this what you mean when you say, MY BODY REJECTS HEALTHY FOOD? I'm a raw vegan, 67 yrs old, everyone else younger, except one. I follow Markus Rothkranz. And Dr Bergman too....if you are interested.
I just found your channel and just found a dehydrater used. Not a top line model but it's a start. My question is this - are you drying the sweet potatoes as chips or do you do something else with them? Thanks. Love your channel!
I was wondering if you could make some kind of "french" fried sweet pototo taste but in the mush form... wonder if it would taste good. I'm new to dehydrating. This is a nice technique.
how long did it take to dehydrate them. and do you think they would be an exchange for eating potato chips ? or did you just add them to cooked recipes in the future?
i was wondering if you blended some greens and garlic into a thick paste with some water. mix it into the smashed potato.... or what if you used jalapenos minced with the sweet potato would be sweet and hot.
I wonder if it would work to line the inside of your vacuum bag with a paper towel. I'm new at dehydrating so I don't know if that would work or if it would affect the food. Has anyone tried that?
Do you think you could come up with a recipie for a dog bone that would be fairly hard. Our Abigail eats them do fast (dehydrsted sweet potatos)). Maybe add some wheat flour? Many people would love such a recipie. Great video by yhe way!
~ I am new to dehydrating and sweet potato chips have been my focus. However, I have done them three different times and I am disappointed with the flavor which seems to be bland. Can you offer any suggestions? I am trying to give up bagged potato chips for healthy dehydrated ones.
Hi! I have a question about dehydrating sweet potatoes. I boiled them and rolled them out. I dehydrated, but they seem to be leathery rather than crisp. What did I do wrong?
When you boil them, you have cooked out the enzymes and nutrients. That's why we are raw vegans. No more than 118 degrees, no higher. My spiralizer by kitchenaid peels and slices them for me. I make my own peanut butter and butter using organic cold pressed coconut oil, olive oil, chia seeds, soaked, coconut flour, a thickener, Braggs vinegar, and PB with roasted nuts..not sure what the temp is on those but only to save myself from germs. They must be roasted peanuts. I use my vita-mix and 1 t olive oil to 1 cup nuts, 2 minutes, done! Can't wait to have egg plant with smoked paprika, dehydrated, in a lettuce leaf with tomato...BLT A WHOLE NEW WAY!
Anyone have any suggestions on this, Once my white or sweet potatoes are dried some of the edges are sharp and puncture my bags. In some cases 3 layers of bags still dont do the trick and I have to remove the offending potato chip. I have the same problem with sweet potatoes that were rolled out smooth when wet.
I live in Thailand since the cost of shipping an excalibur would be prohibitive can I just buy the trays and make my own heated ventilated box? All I can find here is to make the trays is aluminum or fiberglass screening which I do not want to use.
They make awesome dog treats! EVERY dog that I’ve shared with loves them!
Thank you. Such a creative way. I throw the pieces in my vita mix to process a

Would you share with us how you use your dry sweet potatoes?
Sure happy I checked on here with you, as my husband is out buying me 30 pounds of 29 cent per pound sweet potatoes!

I do this now with sweet potatoes cooked in my steamer. Saves some flavor I think.
Brilliant

If I were to boil them back, would they expand and form a paste?
How would these work if these then got ground up in a food processor and vac-sealed in quart/mylar? Would they reconstitute well as mashed/sweet?

this is so great!! now I don't have to use oil!!! How long did you boil the sweet potatoes?
I love dehydrating mashed potatoes of any kind. Just pour water on them and cook over low heat, stirring a lot and adding more liquid if necessary.
Thank you for the feedback!
Baking brings out the natural sweetness in the sweet potato. Would that be better than boiling?

Thank you for sharing great idea. MISNPO mentioned salt. Perchance a left out ingredient/option or keep healthy approach? jokingly serious
How would I hydrate them if they’re already cooked, I know it’s in water but won’t get dissolved in the water?
Hi! I have a question about dehydrating sweet potatoes. I boiled them and rolled them out. I dehydrated, but they seem to be leathery rather than crisp. What did I do wrong?
How long did it take to dehydrate the sweet potato on the Excalibur you have? We don't have one and we're thinking of getting one.
how many hours did those take
Are you able to fry your potatoes after they are reconstituted after dehydration?

I have used plastic needle point sheets, you could find them in craft stores.
Did you ever think to make pumpkin chips using that method? It would work the same. They are the same consistancy. Yes?
Tianca
Thank you! Great idea too!

if you vacuum seal must be very dry- if any moisture at all botulism can occur they are saying now in 2020
do not see the point in that, then what?
Who's Paula?
