    Honestly, I always saw aging up at "1 day away" as shortening Sims' lives. I use it sometimes to make a Sim a little bit older.

      Marticore, how do you set your own age span in Sims 3? Ive been trying to come up with my own way instead of making things long but im pretty sure the length of aging and how its counted is different in 3 than 2, like it counts how many days they are than have left(?) if im not mistaken cause I know Adults can live up to 90 days or something like that, so I was curious on how you would plan your own aging system in that game to try to reflect real life?

      For TS3 I usually go by 2 days = 1 year, so:
      Baby - 2 days
      Toddler - 10 days
      Child - 14 days
      Teenager - 14 days
      Young Adult - 50 days
      Adult - 40 days
      Elder - 20 days
      This way Sims live for minimum 150 days, so to me that is 75 years, but since elders usually don't die immediately, it can go up to 80+ years lived. Oh, and you need to have lifespan set to "long" to be able to do it!
      I like this double lifespan in TS3 because there I only play with one family. In TS2 I usually do rotational gameplay, so I prefer 1 day = 1 year.

      With mods, this is possible, and judging by some studies, most likely these mods are based on what they really planned to do in the game before - teenage pregnancy. It's just that later Sims began to be made more childish and all this was cleaned up. Apparently, alcohol was also planned there. No wonder the restaurant has a function to order a drink. Obviously, there should have been more than just water, although why the developers didn't at least shove the juice in there is not clear

    • @СветланаФ-ъ3ы
      @СветланаФ-ъ3ы 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I mean, apparently, when the developers played the characters during the testing and development phase of the game, teenage pregnancy was possible. And they were clearly acting out Brandi's teenage years and most likely she was pregnant and gave birth in her teenage years. By the time of release, this function had been cut out, or rather simply turned off, silenced in fact.

      According to the research of some players, the Inteenimater mod is essentially based on the code or partial code of the game itself, i.e., in fact, the creator of this mod did not make a new one, but included what was originally in the game. Teenage pregnancy and the division of adolescence into 2 parts. The first 7 days are a teenager, and the second are in fact already a young age, as in Sims 3, when a teenager gets functions like an adult, can move, get married and have children. And it was clearly in the game, as Sims 2 fans found a screenshot from the beta version of the game, which was leaked online by the developers before the official release of the game to show approximately what kind of game it will be. And in this screenshot, Brandy is with her future husband, they are teenagers, but he proposes to her. That is, initially it was possible. Inteenimater just turned it on.

      I dont subscribe to that theory. The game lifespan simply makes no sense, they had to do this to speed up time, so people dont waste too much time on a single generation but then again its still broken in a way. They tried to fix things with the University where you send your sim to University play so it ages up when its done and not be a teen like a sibling when it comes home, or better say if it would stay home as before the EP existed.
      Anyways
      I remember lots of things from my 3rd year onwards, I even have weird memories when I was probably before 3 ...
      Its a blessing having a photographic memory or what even is called but also a curse since I wish some things I forget because they are bothering me.
      But what also bothers me are people who seem way to lobotomized to remember anything.
      My mother forgets what she said minutes later let alone what she told me when I was a kid ... So we always argue over this, we have a agreement then she breaks it simply by forgetting or misremembering crap, often she is projecting a lot too. She did me harm I lost count how many times. Like we would have a legal meeting in a court and she didnt come, I was a minor and she needed to be there representing me as a only parent otherwise the case is dissmised ... she was that empty headed that she "forgot" and came up with an excuse that she had to work that day even tho she wasnt even employed at the time.
      I don't know how she even manage to have a job, life of any kind with such a bird brain. She always had luck meanwhile me I suffer ever since I know for myself.
      She isn't the only one like that tho. I even as a kid started recording people conversations so I have proof that I am not crazy and that they are wrong ...

    I don't consider the in game age as actual age. For me it's symbolic, like a story that cuts for example when a person is like 40 and continues when the sim turns 80 or something like that. Since their lifes are so short and we can't spend every single day of their life with them for me how we see their life is more like a diary, consisting of only the more important moments in their lives and their actual age isn't really that relevant to me.

      Besides counting years might lead to very creepy events such as a 16 year old teen dating with a 20 year old "teen".
      To deal with the short lifespans I just turn aging off until I feel like they've lived long enough.

      Same here. And for the teenage lifespan: I send them to college when they are 7 days from adulthood, and spend to 3-day rounds with them in college. That way they turn into adults at the same moment but they are not teenagers all the time. Maybe they should have introduced a "middle aged" stage or so? True. For example like realistically every couple argues, more than ten times. But if you want to portray the sims relationship as healthy then you don’t let them argue, maximal 1-3 times. If you want to portray it as bad and unhealthy then you let them argue like 7+ times which realistically isn’t a lot but for the sims it is bc they don’t live that Long

    You're right! It doesn't make sense at all!
    I started following Pleasantsims' aging system a few years ago, and I much prefer it to how Maxis set everything up. 14 days is way too long for teenagehood in my opinion, and three days of pregnancy is absurd. I like having the chance for siblings to be closer in age, since a lot of families have a bunch of children in short succession, even if it's more difficult in the short term.
    While I do love the aging system I follow, I do reminisce sometimes about the days where teens were teens for so long, and the younger life stages were still really fun to play around with. I used to take a lot more time customizing my toddlers, children and teens, since they'd be that age for longer, and it was fun to dress them up and make them exactly how I wanted. Nowadays, the age span is so short it's way too tedious to put time and effort into little Jimmy's winter outfit, since he'll be an adult in a few rounds. I also sometimes miss the three day pregnancies, since it felt so exciting watching that belly pop and seeing them slowly progress and change. There was time to plan out the nursery, have family over to see the pregnant sim, and really enjoy the process.
    All in all, this video was a trip down memory lane! Wonderful job, as always!

    aging has always been SUCH a struggle for me in this game, lord. back when i didn't know about mods and custom age spans, i used to feel SO stressed having to hurry with the baby making otherwise every child born into a family after the first one would end up growing up with irrationally old parents. i did enjoy how long the teen stage was, but not at the expense of the adult one. now i have a custom lifespan very similar to yours and i count days as years as well, but even that is kinda complicated with the way the game works. a huge issue for me is this "sims can/should age up a day before they actually would" thing, i never wanted to age sims up before it said 0 days but i did use to want to throw birthday parties. i haven't in a very long time though, i've been brought off it even if i now have mods to fix the double aging afterwards, i just can't be arsed now. it has always made me so nervous! also, i have never used the elixir of life, i know the developers meant it as a way for aspiration to influence lifespan but i am so glad they ended up making it optional in the form of a reward object. i do not like using most of the reward objects, they make the game too easy/unrealistic for someone who plays like me. and don't even get me started on uni - i wish i could have my teens live out every single minute of their teens before i have to send them to uni. ugh, all of this struggle. but it's still worth it for the best sims game!

    I made my own custom lifespan too, with every day as one year and the 18 hour pregnancy mod. I do consider the last day to be a phantom day, because in SimPE it does count it as day "zero" and it makes aging up a bit easier for me. I'm pretty lenient on when they actually grow up, as long as it's before 18:00 aging next day so their age in the new state remains correct. I just think to myself that some people go a little faster, while others go a little slower. The phantom day made aging up very relaxed for me.
    I track their ages in an excel sheet. My lifespan gets them to very old, my preference is to age them up at age: baby 1, toddler 4, child 12, teen 18, adult 70, which means with at max. elders can get to be 100. And this is how I use the phantom day: if my child is one day from becoming a teen, he is 12 (on that phantom day). I organize a party when convenient (usually immediately). Then I age him up. He is still 12. Then proceeds to age up to thirteen normally at 18:00 the following day.
    Because I added that phantom day to each stage to do this, he counts in the game as 7 days from age up. So it's not that hard to count for me, I only need to retract one day. I just rely on my sims tracker more. Which also has a tab to check the amount of sim days against the age. Handy, because I make mistakes sometimes.
    I also use the phantom day for teens to send them to college. In college, every two days make one university year. So for each one day I play in regular hoods, I play two days in college. The students age up accordingly: one year older every two days. As they can get pregnant etc in college, family members also age only once every two days. When they return to the hood, I correct their in-game ages to match the one I have noted.

      @@Marticore Yeah, counting my Sims' age was confusing to me at first, but now I'm used to it. But for my adults I substract that one day actually, because in my system teens are gone from families for 4 days when they go to college and my adult stage lasts 42 (43 technically, but you know), so if Sim went to college it should be 38 for them and with Sim Manipulator I can substract only 3 or only 5 days so I just figured out I can substract that one day extra too and my adults age up the same way as yours

    I have the days arranged so it adds up to 54 days as an elder by aging my sims up 1 day beforehand. I've also recently implemented something new with college in my rotations to make the later age of sims make more sense. Not sure what I'll do once I get sims that don't want to go college though. So the ages come out like this:
    Baby = 0-1 days/years
    Toddler = 2-4 days/years
    Child = 5-11 days/years
    Teenager = 12-17 days/years
    Young Adult = 18-25 days/years
    Adult = 26-53 days/years
    Elder = 54 days/years onward
    It was in the end kind of easy for me to get the college implemented in the life span by counting each semester in college as 1 day/year, even though that doesn't technically make sense, so college counts as 8 days total. This way I've managed to work around the illogical nature of the teen life span to make the original life span more realistic.

      I imagine the teens who didn't go to college, as shorter young adults. 😅 Teens can move out and drive cars in the Sims 2 so they can be 18+. Here in Finland the youngest age for kids to move out is at 16 and the youngest age to drive is at 18, and they go to college at 19 or 20 (if they did the military year between) at youngest. In sim days, that would still be 6 years time to do uni, which in Finland takes 5-7 years (bachelor 3 + masters 2, total length of your studying spot at the uni is 7 years).

    Here’s my age span that I play in my game, I play similar to pleasant sims but with a few alterations, her age span is 1 day= 1 year.
    Babies have 2 days (0-1 years as they couldn’t only have 1 day set in sim PE), toddlers have 5 days (age 1-5 years old), children have 7 days (age 6-12 years old), Teens have 8 days (13-20 years old, they can only go to college from age 16 onwards, if they go to college aged 17-19 years old, they must have 1-3 days taken off their adult lifespan to simulate that they graduated from college at age 21-23 years old) this does mean that sims go to school until they are 20 years old (we leave school in the UK at age 16) , adults get 40 days (ages 20-60 years old) and elders I left their lifespan alone because it looked a bit complicated in SimPE but I reckon they have around 10-15 days in their lifespan so I guess they would kick the bucket around 70-75 years old.
    Also I have adjusted pets ages in SimPE so the pets won’t live longer than the human sims! But this means pets will die whilst your kids are still growing up, sorry! It’s more realistic this way!

    I also hate the sims 2 lifespan! My biggest pet peeve (when I was playing only with the base game) was that if I wanted to create a household that has a sim who has few kids and one or more is a teenager, then the parent would still have those 29 days until elder. So basically the child would have been born when the parent was a child or something?! Usually I send every teen to college nowadays and I fail the sims I feel aren't "suited" to the college life. Hope my explanation made sense!

    I usually go with the in game aging system and sometimes use the elixir of life because I'm too lazy to work out a workable system that's also balanced between Sims (as I like to play rotationally in the Sims 2,) but it doesn't make much sense. It's annoying how most of the Strangetown teens are so close to aging up to adulthood (that's not really related but yeah lol,) and the Beakers and Nervous Subject are too close in age. Also there are some lifetime wants like having so many dates etc or owning a bunch of businesses at 5* which are unrealistic for the lifespan unless you extend it. I also don't like to rush Sims through their life I want them to have a bunch of dates before marrying, and failed relationships and things like that before getting married for realism and maybe get divorced sometimes and re-married and things like that. I also don't want them to go on a date every single day just to achieve the 50 date lifetime wants lol.

    I use a combo of BoilingOil's Slow Aging Controller and a slightly edited version of AlmightyHat's Proportional Gestation based aging mod. The aging mod uses a 1 day = 3 months model based on the 3 day sim pregnancy (so that it lasts about 9 "months"). You do end up with sims that live a loooong time, which is nice if you want to play at a relaxed pace. The aging controller I use mostly because it gives me the ability to stop aging on individual sims. Usually, I will stop the aging when I get the birthday pop-up so I don't have to worry about the sim aging up before they get to blow out the candles. (I just have to remember to turn it back on after!) Simler90 on Mod The Sims has a birthday party fix mod (in the Aging Mods upload) that's supposed to prevent a sim from aging up if there is a birthday party happening, but I haven't tried it.

I fake it by using the life elixer/potion of youth at the end of the adult stage to reset to the beginning of it, I also give the sim a new look that makes them look older. So they go through the adult stage twice. And for young adults, if they spend time at university I’ll put them back to the beginning of YA when they’re done.

    When you use the birthday cake, your sim ages two years during one day. The first time when you use the birthday cake (let's say at 4 pm), the second time at the normal aging time at 6pm. There are two ways to avoid that. Either don't use a birthday cake and let your sims age up on their own, or use Monique's individual aging on/off mod (available on mod the sims) to turn aging off for the birthday sim until six pm has past. Edit: Sorry was too quick :). I literally posted my comment two seconds before you explained things. The mod is a good solution though for a birthday party without stress.

    And since game posses Seasons I felt like they lived to short.
    Which was always the reason why when playing (or more like testing) Sims 3/4 I was giving them max long lifespan.
    Sure I feel like it was affecting how fast you can befriend people. But I liked seeing life of individual sims as a long adventure, and at the adult stage it could allow me to experience middle age crisis - express their change of their opinions, their style and what they consider more or less important, trying to do stuff that they never did.

    I used to use your lifespan and that whole Elders being 57 when they’re actually 60 thing really annoyed me. So I made my own lifespan where the extra day is added back in. Now I just remember to age them up at 6pm when the 1 day left notification comes up.
    Then to count how old they are I still subtract how many days are left, but I just remember that the final day is 1 day higher. So for example, my child span is from 4-12 and they age up on their 13th birthday. If I’m working out how old a child is, I just subtract from 14 instead of 13.
    You should do the same thing - it’s really easy to calculate once you get the hang of it; just add an extra day onto each age group! Then your elders will correctly show their age when they get there, which makes life a whole lot easier!

    Honorable mention: The Sims Pet Stories doesn't even HAD ELDER STAGE and had the same adult lifespan from the original game. This means that you couldn't had children very late because your adult Sims simply die from old age when the lifespan bar is full and your children would be taken. And if you had kids even though your Sims had just become adults, they'll not see their children becoming adults anyway. Jesus...

    The aging discrepancies really bothered me lol. I ended up editing the custom lifespan mod.
    Babies: 2 days / 1 year. 0-1
    Toddlers: 8 days / 4 years. 1-5
    Children: 16 days / 8 years. 5-13
    Teens: 10 days / 5 years. 13-18
    Adults: 94 days / 47 years. 18-65
    Elders: 25-35 days / 12-17 years. 65-77/82 depending on aspiration.
    I tried to blend them so adults could watch their kids grow up and elders could meet their grandkids. I don't usually play with college and I use 1 day pregnancy, meaning pregnancies last about 5 months in game.

    Before i learned about modding, I had to convince myself that some people age and become physically elder at the age of 40-50 or something
    and elixir of life was kinda like how people take care of themselves, if they do a good job, they stay young..., i mean adult longer
    Which personally, I think we need a mod for that to happen (that some adults can become physically elder faster than others, without failing the elixir of life)

    I sends all of my Sims to college when they turn 18 and count the semesters as years to make use of the young adult stage. I also consider Sims to be "middle-aged" when they reach the second half of the adult stage (around 40 days old).

    All my elderly sims I put in a group home except don lothario. He got married had two kids and left his wife when they became elderly and went back to old habits. Three days before his expiration, he married Lucy Burb ( Lucy burb is a hot chick who rebel from his strict parents )

    Yeah, I get why the teen lifespan is so long in base game-- I play with Phaenoh's lifespan because I enjoy playing with my Sim children and teens, and the average 100 day or so lifespan is more than enough for me to get tired of each particular sim and be happy to see them go so it can't really use a longer adult lifestage, but at the same time the long childhood still makes Sim lives feel so packed with parenting and not enough time for being an adult before kids or being an adult after. That said, I did have one pretty funny family in the other direction where the Sim got pregnant on her first day as a teen, and then when that first child became a teen she also became pregnant on the first day, and that son of hers had his first kid partially through college with a woman living in the main hood, and that Sim just returned from college and his kids are already partway through toddler-hood, while that original teen mom is only 86 days old right now, so she's got plenty of elderhood left. College is pretty long in my hood-- rotations are three days or two college semesters, which means college is pretty fucking long in my hood, but still.

    And you didn't even touch on young adult stage and how those 4 years in college last LONGER than most Sims' entire adulthood.

      I treat college as some kind of alternative universe(ity?) 😂

      And it's not actually longer, it's exactly 24 days, and adulthood is 28.

    i had no idea this happened.. and it now makes sense why my game times seemed a bit off when i would try for my generation trees. i play sims 4 actively now, and in order to prevent my generation save file from going completely off the deep end, i usually only have aging enabled for certain areas. it's my first generation family, and they had three children; the oldest right now is finally a young adult, while the twins are both now children. both parents have aged to adults, and i'm so worried they aren't going to meet their grandchildren (and considering one of them wants to meet grandchildren for their aspiration, it's a little important i make that happen) whatsoever. i don't want to rush the gameplay of the oldest son and force him into a relationship so he can have a child of his own to fulfill that wish, so this is.. the only way i can really make it all work without buying age potions.
    i essentially went from wanting a completely vanilla save file (no helping hands from motherlode or other money cheats, no mods, no tweaking for time, etc.), to having to play god in order just to let my generation family have their complete lives. 🥴

    tbh I think it's just intended on how much gameplay is in each life stage. In Sims 3 I have baby set to the lowest and toddler set to 5 (which to me still feels too long, I'm gonna try 3, I hate toddlers), children set to 10 because they're awesome, teen set to 14 because they're basically an adult stage and they're okay to play, although it is too long, maybe 10 or 12 would be better

    I use a mod that lets me turn sims aging on and off individually. there are better mods that address aging, but this one always worked for me. I usually wont age adult sims up until around the time their first grandchild is born.
