    It's amazing to see the way they swim! You'd think that from the shape of their body they might undulate it like a snake, but nope, it's the beautiful dorsal fin!

      I know right, they swim like my knife fish. It always makes me imagine the Jetsons hover car sounds when they move around.

    This is the most respectful to facts presentation of the Oarfish I have seen online. Thank you. I have two Oarfish rescue videos to contribute to the knowledge of the Oarfish, and another called, "How to Rescue an Oarfish," a video to assist people who want to save a beached Oarfish without doing harm. Thank you for your video! There are a lot that are just spreading mythology. This is a fish that could use some attention, from the Scientific community. We are starting a database to record beachings in our bay. Thank you.

    Plus in Sweden they are known as Herring-Kings due to the belief that they could lead groups of herrings away like a king leading his army.

    I would like to know if the glow on oarfish is caused by bioluminescence or if its a reflection of their silver skin

    • @hobomike6935
      @hobomike6935 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      since they're extremely uncommon sightings and the most times we've seen them are almost at the surface of the ocean, where they're more often found, they're probably just iridescent and reflective skin.
      if they were more bioluminescent, they'd probably be easier to spot in dark and dim waters

    A fact:
    Oarfish are the inspiration for the infamous Reaper Leviathan, known for making Subnautica players shart their pants due to the sudden appearance.

    The serpent with the guys was taken in San Diego in 1996 and it is not a oarfish. In our culture it is the Laotian dragon (pha yha nak)

    Professor Inkling: Let's see. Red spikes, long tail, silvery skin... Of course! Now I know what it is. It's an oarfish.
