If you like geopolitics to go along with your power fantasy, as the PCs become true movers and shakers, this type of story is a great way to go beyond punching foes until the xp and gold falls out. I would also recommend checking out the outstanding Reliance: Interdependence and Inner Turmoil by Adam Bell. It provides a bit more mechanical/procedural support to this type of storytelling.
This was a well-timed video for me to see; I have a burgeoning campaign setting my players are still very early in, and this technique will help frame the central issues the factions/NPCs are involved with.
Exactly! Including those factions on there give a lot of context for how they would respond to certain actions the party might take, which I think really adds a lot more depth and realism to the world!
