Me father born 1889 of Scott and Scandinavian genealogy migrated to USA after WW1. I was born in 1957 and he was quite old as I grew up. Mother didnot permit TV or much radio so as a kid before he died he would sit with me in the shade of our home and yell me history of all that he knew of. He was quite knowledgeable and lit the fire of wanting to know as much as I could historically and other. He spoke of the many many families, castles, uprisings, royalty and murders throughout the histories of the UK. I soaked it all up. Thanks for giving place to many of those stories!
An Amazing structure ! Must have been quite impressive back in the day ! Love seeing the different ways castles were built around your beautiful country ! 🏰🏴
Very imposing. Absolutely no airs and graces eh. Leaves visitors in no doubt what it's purpose was. Thank you for sharing. I've just subscribed and am looking forward to what other treasures you post
I'm a new subscriber and I like you very much and I like the way you present things. But just one little request? I can barely hear you over the music. If the music could be a little less loud it would be great because I really care what you have to say. Thanks again and look forward to enjoying your videos.
This was wonderful! I love castles, and you have started my education about the castles in Scotland! I was so impressed with Hermitage, as it looks clean and perfect, meaning it has no missing chunks of walls, etc. Thanks for your hard work!
I just happen to be reading John Guy’s ‘Mary Queen of Scots”, and read about her going to The Hermitage. Doesn’t seem like a very grandiose castle, and I never really thought about how dark and gloomy they would be inside. Thank you for this video - I just recently subscribed, and I’m enjoying your output. Take care.
It has a very powerful, yet sublime presence that is almost a contradiction in a sense. No question it's quite haunted, but not in the classic sense. Not sure why, but it feels like almost a sanctuary for nuns lost or wandering between this life and wherever the light takes one, but it didn't take them. Definitely more female energy than male by far. But quiet, meandering, slowly paced, yet very masculine by nature of the castle itself. Almost hallowed ground in a sense. I keep wanting to say 'Brutally peaceful', but I won't. Brilliant video. Thank you.
@@thecastlegirl7033 I've been chasing TH-cam castles all over Europe for several years & stil find ones I did not know about ! Amazing - and I originally thought castles were just a UK thing ! No there are hundreds of them all over the place !
I just found out that that I’m a descendant of the Douglas’s through my 12th great grandmother garvald Christin Douglas Stewart ( the daughter of Patrick Stewart 2nd earl of glenbuckie) & Lady Mary Lecky.
On the rear of the castle, in the longest wall, there is a very large arched doorway yet it seems to be walled-up only a few feet inward. Why was there such a large arched doorway there and why is it now walled up? Generally, castles had only a single entrance that would’ve been protected by a gatehouse, and if there was a back doorway, it would’ve been a small, perhaps hidden sally port, not a a giant door without a gate house. any explanation would be appreciated. Thank you.

Really good work.much appreciated,many thanks,from NZ.
Built for war not grandeur. How wonderfully grand it is now. Simply magnificent and beautiful, thank you for this wonderful presentation.
The best built seen so far. Built for protection, a true castle, not for grandeur…thank you for presenting this.

both foreboding and beautiful
One of my favourites ❤️🏴
I am amazed that the walls are intact after all these years! I recommend a full restoration!!
Excellent video, very informative. Been here recently and it certainly has an eerie feel to the place. Well done.
An impressive castle! Thanks for the tour and sharing its history!

Emily, I could listen to your lovely accent all day, great video's👍.
Thank you! 😃
Enjoyed this. You're doing a good job. Keep it up. :)
I love your accent Emily. I'm 100% Scottish on my mom's side (Edinburgh). Dad's side was from England (Yorkshire).

Thank you for your comments. It is an utterly imposing structure. ❤️🏴
Astonishing the manpower required to build such mammoth structures.
How many castles are there in Scotland? This series may last a while! All the better for the viewers. Love the historical nuggets.
😂I’ve realised the task may be a long project to complete. ❤️🏴

This castle looks structurally sound and would be a good candidate for restoration.
Not by me of course, because I’m poor.

It's a brute of a place..
What makes it better is I'm a Black Douglas...
Music is too loud when you are speaking.
Ihr habt ja sehr schöne Burgen.
Leider werde ich mir das niemals live anschauen können.
Looks like someone needs to put a roof on it.
Легендарнии Киликия Арарат
crazy to think it was almost dark inside always even in the daytime
Be a even better video if we could get a look inside
