I used to do commissions of farms and homes. If I hadn’t had a projector the windows and various rooflines etc would have driven me bonkers laying out the perspective all the time. Worked for me! I don’t accept commissions at all anymore and painting for fun and joy and the challenge.
I decided to just come clean and not make a secret that, at times, I use a projector for big paintings. I justify such "cheating" by maintaining a vigorous drawing practice. I think if I didn't draw all the time, my projections would look like hell.

projectors were a necessary evil when you consider the very tight deadlines illustrators work under. when I was in art school I thought it was cheating until I found out Norman Rockwell used one.
I initially felt ashamed for admitting I use one for big paintings, but then I decided to just be honest.
