On TH-cam there is a channel KT3406E and this young guy is a master rebuilder of CAT engines. Very detailed rundown of all the process. Very interesting to watch. He uses PDI stuff mostly. I think he is down in Oklahoma....
Yes it is out of a Ford, Cat's exhaust manifold leaks gases at the front slip joint. Get a PDI exhaust manifold. What is your full engine serial number? To go up in HP, the two piece damper has to be replaced, plus I can see what iron needs to be replaced. All 3406E 5EK's had a wastegate turbo 435 HP and up. You have a early serial number as the EUI harness is at the rear. Cat had a update years ago and you could flash the ECM to a HRP file. So when these first came out your full load was 1800 RPM's. Drivers hated this as they was use to the 2100 full load settings. So Cat made the HRP file and went to a 2100 setting. 5EK's are broken into several serial number ranges. 5EK00329-00548, 5EK00549-01184, 5EK01185-01820, then a big change 5EK01821-53003, then this group I dislike, 5EK53004-67192, and finally the last group 5EK37193 and up. As they ran out of serial numbers the 6TS was a continuation of the 5EK's. Cat at first had the fuel supply to the back of the head from the ECM. They changed it and now goes from ECM to front of the head and rear of head to the fuel block. Also they changed how the air compressor coolant lines route several times. I like to put the 6NZ style set up and clean a lot of this up. You can get most of the hard line parts out of a junk yard and it keeps a lot of hoses from rubbing. ACERT engines has the same set up so 6NZ, BXS, MXS, NXS engines will work, if you want to do this. Replace all the rear cover bolts, I have seen they break even the ones behind the flywheel and the bolt head bounces around destroying a lot of iron. The front plate gasket was bad to leak and Cat had some updates, might consider resealing it while engine is out.
@@matthewsmotorsportsgarage7407 Had S/L on camshaft, oil leaks, fuel numbers. So good chance upper stub shaft has been ground letting the oil build up come out. The lower one the cover has to come off. Arrangement No: 114-4479 Mfg Model: 3406E Mktg Model Year: 1995 Prod Family: ZI 3406/C15 Engines Build Date: 12Jan1995 Dealer/Invoiced Ship Date: 18Jan1995 Sales Date: 18Jan1995 Delivery Date: 24Apr1995 435HP Camshaft is the same to a 500 HP, to go to a 455 or a 475 piston's OK, a 500 piston's not the same. Turbo has to be changed, 455 and 500 turbo the same, 475 turbo not the same, injectors are the same from 435 to a 475, 500 hp injectors, not the same. So the cheapest of this with a 1750 torque transmission and clutch or higher a 475 HRP, damper, turbo, and flash ECM. You can make it a 550 HP @ 1850 ft lbs of torque. Again trans and clutch, 550's did come out until the 53004 and up range. So it is best to rebuild the engine and put 6TS iron in it. It was the old Cat pick your power program they had.
Thanks for the info. I am looking for a 18speed RTLO 18918b trans an a new 2050 eaton clutch. So I will be good on that part. The drive line is the later model big u joint an type that came on the rears.
Nice power plant. Cats have that fantastic sound to them :-)

My serial is 5ek39443
I had cat run the number an it came up saying it had two piece iron an aluminum piston.
