  • A food scandal has hit China following reports on social media that fuel tanker trucks that transport toxic chemicals are also being used to carry cooking oil and other food products.
Reports have suggested that the trucks are not properly cleaned when they are switched to edible oil transportation.
Chinese officials have now launched what they call "a major" investigation.

Bottom line.... Read the label on your food and err on the safe side by avoiding Chinese food products. It will largely ensure that contamination is avoided; however not ensure its avoided as many producers use Chinese produced ingredients. This contamination is probably largely contributing to the spike in cancers.

I know a person who imported products in bulk from China. He repackaged it into smaller containers and put 'Made in USA' label because a majority of the final product cost was incurred during packaging and shipping within the USA. The product is from China. The bottle is from China. The label is from China. The packaging says 'Made in USA'. 😂 I'm not sure if the laws are still the same, but at the time this was 100% legal.

@@lynnli9101 not quite. China has export regulations for only four food categories - rice and rice powder, wheat and wheat powder, livestock - fresh or frozen and corn and corn powder. Other food products for export don't need a permit, e.g. cooking oil and the sweet market. It is the country which imports the foods analysing whether the food quality meets their standard. Now, we can imagine that Germany has different food quality standards as e.g. Madagascar. Many, especially African countries, tend to import rather cheap products to meet their demands. Additionally to be looked into is whether permits to import food are granted on analysis results or on favor.

In China, I will tell you a phenomenon. You can draw inferences from it. Imagine that almost all industries operate according to this rule: Every day, there are cars parked illegally on the streets. The police know where the parking resources are the most scarce. They will come to collect a handful of them every day. Illegal parking vehicles will be fined 50 or 100 yuan. Car owners are not bothered by it. Car owners who can't find parking spaces and are busy with work continue to park illegally. Even wealthy car owners treat the fines as parking fees. The traffic police team enriches their treasury with this, and part of it is used for bonuses. Therefore, in China, the government has a good business called: three glasses of wine for punishment, a steady stream of money. If you want to change illegal behavior and impose heavy penalties, then the financial path of civil servants in the law enforcement industry will be cut off.
