Don’t know if Alfie would ever read this - but watching him play for those few seasons at Swansea, what a fantastic footballer he is. Hell of a defender, and an example to follow for any young player getting into the game - will definitely be an inspiration for a lot of people who followed the Swans when they were in the Prem. Be proud mate. YJB!
Went to see Exeter City v Wycombe at the start of the season. I didn't realise Mawson was at Wycombe and I was shocked how one of the Wycombe centre backs looked so good, so much better than everyone else - winning everything, pinging balls, commanding, amazing. I saw it was Mawson about 30 minutes in and wondered what he was doing in League One. Well, now I know, absolutely savage. So unlucky.
The way that Alfie talks about Wycombe shows how much respect he has for the club and it’s heartbreaking to see what he’s been through. A true chairboy 💙
Highly rated by all the clubs he played for, for a good reason. We loved him at Wycombe both times he played for us. Check out his assist for Chris Forino in Wycombe's 1-0 win away at Oxford earlier this season 🔥 Good luck with everything Alfie
This has to be my favourite of all your episodes, you can tell he's a really great guy. Hope he goes on to do some really cool stuff in the next stage of his career.
This happened to me at 17/18 too I was a trialist at Walsall and the baggies as a goalkeeper I cracked my meniscus going down for a routine save to my right and it just went. Two surgeries (lucky I know) later I still didn't put on gloves again until I was twenty eight. I can only play as a non contact five and six a side keeper and even that grinds it. The fact he carried on makes him inspirational to me and a lot of others.
I just showed this to my under effort ,lack of care, ridiculously talented keeper son. He watched it in silence…. I think he needed to see how easy your talent can be taken away!! Thanks and good luck young man it will work out in the end however much it seems it won’t! 💙
Sad to see, but know it's unfortunately part of the game... Alf was a baller during his time at Swansea & you can see how gutted he. All the best mate YJB!
I stumbled upon this video as I was just about to leave for the physio who is treating my torn meniscus that’s kept me out for almost 7 months at present with no real chance of a return any time soon. Cheered me right up 😂
I am 20 year old goalkeeper playing football in the U.S at a university. I too have torn my lateral meniscus twice and have had to end my career because of it.
It’s horrible that, gutted for the lad, he was as good at Swansea and could see him doing well with England when they come knocking, it’s a shame it ruined his career his injury
I would never wish career ending injuries on anyone. Even if it’s players I personally cannot stand Hope Alfie has an amazing future in football in a different capacity
If football is his passion get on the coaching side of things english clubs looking for new young blood don't give up look at Ryan Mason he became a coach so chins up and good luck with your future COYO's
Some people at Wycombe will remember Alfie for his goal vs Luton. Not me. After all he went through in his career, the knowledge about his knee, the failed medicals, the coming back "home" this will be my memory of him: Despite everything that went before, everything that could happen at any moment with his knee, heres my central defender giving it everything in the last minutes as a winger to set up number 3 against Peterborough just a couple of months before having to retire. th-cam.com/video/fHY6CsjA5i8/w-d-xo.html Wycombe Legend.
@@gladlygaming1995 great player , if he didn’t get those injuries he could of been a good premier league player and possibly England player . All the best to him in the future
As much as I rated him as a played I’ll never forget the moment he was rude to me at Barnsley parade when I was 10 asking for a photo saying he wanted to see his daughter and to hurry up.
Its absolutely heartbreaking hearing Alfie explain his situation. I hope he finds further success in the sport whether that's coaching or as a pundit.
At least he had a career even if it did end too soon
By the sounds of it I don’t think he’ll be limited to coaching or punditry like many other footballers, seems a smart lad wish him well

He was superb mate, no surprise England were looking at him. One of the best CB's I've seen down there, shame he succumbed to his injuries
He was brilliant for Barnsley. Gave me some of my best memories in my early teen years. Thank you Alfie, good luck with post football life

Great player. Loved him at the swans. Never forget him smashing a volley in and running to the other end of the pitch celebrating. Class. YJB🦢🦢
Decent player, decent guy, sounds like he’s got his head on straight, hope he lands on his feet and has a good life in retirement

I played alongside Alf at school! Great lad and a proper mature pro. I’m sure he’ll go onto have a great future
What a player at Barnsley ⚪️🔴⚪️🔴
It's kind of hits home when hearing these stories and how you judge a player differently after
He was great for swansea remember his winning goal against liverpool

Top man Alf, so gutted for you.
I’d love Foz to get Di Canio on. What a player and such a big character, bet he was some fantastic stories about his time at Sunderland
Top lad Alfie, stay strong bro !❤
Wow that’s awful , I’ve only got to a few live games before and I’ve seen him playing for Swansea he was a great centre half all the best Alfie ! 💙
Was in my year at school. All the best mate 🙏
Keep you head up mate like sucks a times !
I only played semi-pro rugby and got told the same thing. I got choked up just hearing his story
Alright calm down it’s not that sad 😂
Always thought he was such a class player, really rated him at Swansea thought he could have gone a lot higher.
Speaks very well. Could definitely see a career in the media or coaching.
When is the full episode coming out
If football is his passion get on the coaching side of things english clubs looking for new young blood don't give up look at Ryan Mason he became a coach so chins up and good luck with your future COYO's
Top player for Bristol city when he came to us
really enjoying the podcasts and stuff, but can you turn down the volume of the intros and outros? bit loud compared to all the rest. cheers!
UFC fighter Kamara Usman comes to mind. The crazy thing is his fighting title fights, and that's not good for your knees.
YOUR THOUGHTS
too sad man he was a top player

Wycombe Legend.
Love the Hart framed shirt
The sound quality is so low , literally on full volume can barely hear it
Would’ve been a top player without injuries, defo was prem standard for a couple years
Who is this ? I remember him but can’t remember the name
Alfie Mawson
Sigurdson.

he failed it at norwich city medical

Well that can’t be true as he said he doesn’t even have kids.
Says in this video he doesn't have kids 😂
