  • This is our cabin on Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Edge cruise ship. This is Cabin no. 7137 on Celebrity Edge, and this Infinite Veranda cabin features a cool new kind of balcony that is both an inside and outside space.
    This cabin is on Deck 7 toward the front of the ship and on the port side.

    I think this is a really great concept for Alaska cruises or other colder itineraries! I wouldn't get a balcony for an Alaska cruise because it would be too cold to sit on it all day and it'd be a waste of money. Yet, most oceanview cabins only have a pretty small window, but I want to see the beautiful sights of Alaska from my room. With this type of room, you can still see all the beautiful landscapes without getting cold or having to look through a tiny window.

    Thanks for this. We just sailed on the Edge in cabin 8163 with the Infinite Veranda. Our feelings were mixed. We liked the floor to ceiling window when the window was closed and liked the additional space the balcony gave the room with the partitions open. Having said that, it's a small balcony and the two chairs and table take up most of that floor space. Drawer space was adequate but closet space is quite restricted, so pack wisely. Our luggage did go under the bed. The bathroom was very good, especially the shower. The television options were terrible; Celebrity definitely missed the boat with their small assortment of channels and very poor video on demand selection. We don't watch much TV on cruises but some people will be unamused by the paltry selections. There's a couple of Celebrity channels of course and in one presentation a manager was bragging about the "densification" of the ship and it really is noticeable. Traffic flow is awful compared especially to a Millennium-class (or even Solstice-class) ship.
    It may have just been a teething issue with a new ship, but the Celebrity service I have known and loved since the days of the Horizon has really deteriorated. My cabin had a minibar that not only wasn't stocked, but had a mystery half glass of some yellow liquid in it from the previous cabin occupants until the last night of the cruise when my minibar was finally stocked. I never met my stateroom attendant once (a first in 25 cruises) and while not the only issue we noted, it's an example of Celebrity's slide.
    The individual rooms of the ship are beautiful but they don't flow together well and there are obvious errors on judgment in the layout. A prime example is the location of the sushi restaurant, "Raw on 5", which is adjacent to the main atrium next to the primary passageway on deck 5. If you hate the smell of seafood, you'll dread being anywhere near it. The ship has pros and cons and while we're glad we saw it, I will book away from the Edge class in the future.
    Edge is easily my least favorite of the nine Celebrity ships I've sailed on.

      we are to sail in a cabin just a few up form 8163 and not impressed. might cancel the whole trip, that closet will never hold all that we bring for a week.

    • @HEDGE1011
      @HEDGE1011 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In The Loop Travel Absolutely. I think your review of the stateroom is the best I've seen.
      I've always loved Celebrity but the Edge was a cold and sterile experience that seemed to go out of its way to distance itself from so many elements that made the former Celebrity great. It brings me no joy to say that, but I was really disappointed in this ship.

    • @HEDGE1011
      @HEDGE1011 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Karen Stenzel Karen...I would neither encourage nor discourage you trying the Edge. As for storage, the drawer space is good, but the cabin is very compact and the closet is annoying. Not only is it relatively small, in my Infinite Veranda at least, it's oddly shaped and the stuff near the back is hard to access. Definitely a low point of the cabin.
      Another item that will vary with personal taste that may or may not matter to you: the bed was VERY firm. I actually like a somewhat firm mattress, but the bed was the least comfortable I've ever slept on on a ship. It may be that it's just brand new, but I never slept well onboard.
      Again, I am not trying to influence your decision. We're glad we tried it on a 3-night preview voyage as we both agreed that 7 nights would be way too much on this ship. It's the first cruise ship I was actually looking forward to getting off and being done with the cruise.
      I wish you the best in your vacation planning and encourage you to find other viewpoints besides my own. Some people were doubtlessly thrilled with the experience. For us the Edge sailing served primarily as an advertisement for Princess or Holland America.

    • @danielc45
      @danielc45 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the bathroom is the ONLY improvement over the Solstice class. TV on wall at the narrowest spot of the room will interfere with many people just walking by. I think they hired the wrong designer for these staterooms. What a shame!

  • @TheRitanita
    @TheRitanita 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'll be sailing on the Edge next Sunday. For those complaints about the closets.... I agree totally! At least now I can plan to store my clothing differently. Formal stuff and hub's slacks in the closet. Neatly fold tops and use the terrific drawer space. The cubby holes and other storage will hold everything we bring. If not, we store our luggage under the bed. Leave things (such as dirty laundry) in there as well.

    Absolutely love the Cabin. I have booked a May 2020 cruise on the sister ship to the Edge, the Apex....I booked this exact type of room. Leaving South Hampton England and cruising the Fjords up the coast of Norway....Love the entire Edge ship...And the Apex is the exact same ship but with different colors...Also, they have upgraded the complimentary dining by making 4 different dining upscale restaurants...Other cruise lines should follow this excellent example...Instead of feeding 700 in each of two main dining rooms early and late seating...they have 4 different restaurants that seat 350 in each of the 4 restaurants....EXCELLENT....and the theater has been redesigned no having a bad seat in the entire room....Can't wait to head to Norway on the Apex....

    Celebrity should be very proud of this excellent promotional video .
    One very important thing to notice . These cabins have indented walls . The head area of the bed intrudes about 2 feet into the next cabins space and visa versa . This makes a VERY small cabin appear larger . NCL does the same trick on the Epic . At first glance it seems clever but it's an optical illusion . Small is small .
    As for the IV balcony , I like having an outdoor balcony . My wife however loves this innovation .

    Not what I thought the balcony would be from pictures. That’s more like a window not a balcony. Not quite the same feel of opening from the top and sides a typical balcony would have. Glad I saw this video cause I don’t think I’d be pleased with that balcony set up. Thank you for posting like always.

    I think it’s an interesting idea. We often get a cabin with a huge balcony, but if it’s not an Alaskan cruise we aren’t out on it a lot... might be a great way to get the best of both worlds in the a Caribbean or other destinations with less interesting coastal sea days? I do think the hanging closet space might kill me though. But an attractive room, I would try 😊

    Thanks for this nice video. It shows the cabin as is - that is important. It's very narrow as expected. But it is squeezed in a more sophisticated way than it was on the Solstice class (that pioneered squeezed cabins). As to the "Infinite Verandah", a mountain (of ads) gave birth to a mouse. IMO the single coolest item is a drawer in the bathroom (borrowed from Viking). The single most ridiculous item (as it seems from the video) is the white box with electric outlets on the table. I love the flexibility of the table (Quantum class) but the light fixture on the mirror is irritating IMO. Thanks again. Great job.

    The balconies on the Solstice class are deeper where you can stretch your legs and lean back to relax. These 2 little plastic chairs just don't do the job! The designer stole a couple of feet from the balcony to put it inside the room so the couch is slightly loner, but I swear that room does not feel much longer. The bath is probably slightly wider/deeper which is nice.

    Not sure about those new 'verandah's', which are actually enlarged windows. I can see the reason why they're going this direction. I'm guessing the maintenance, personal safety and security of traditional balconies are probably a nightmare and a huge cost for the cruise lines. Thoughts?

  • @kevbama5827

    Forgot to add that I believe we will prefer the veranda since our nosy neighbors like to casually peep on us at times in the past with more traditional style balconies. This looks a bit more private. Personally, I enjoy putting on a bit of a show for them but the misses is more prudish as she will admit. We both like to sun on our verandas/balconies with little to nothing on and some neighbors discover this early on and quietly try to sneak a peek. Can't say I blame em though. If wanna take a leak at me too. 😉😜

    If there were still balcony rooms and the Infinite Verandah cabins were just replacements for ocean view rooms, then I could get behind the idea. For me at least, part of the allure of the balcony is the feeling of being outside. I don't get that same feeling standing next to an open window.

    • @scyl

    The cabin seems smaller than usual. The room is not full width for the whole length. It is narrower between the bed and window. Presumably the cabin to your left (when looking outwards towards the balcony) has their bed closer to the balcony, so their widest part is nearer the outside, which is your narrow part. They would also have a wider balcony. If I am correct, that would allow Celebrity to squeeze more cabins into a given length of ship.

  • @SeanLXIV

    Like balcony idea, although it looks more like an inside space with a large opening window than an actual balcony. Nice touches of design, with the electric sockets and the sliding desk. The wardrobe is the one thing I didn't like, looks far too small and awkward to use. Much prefer the walk in style on Princess/P&O Grand Class.

      Thanks for watching. It's almost impossible to say which cruise to recommend. There are all kinds of cruise lines (luxury, budget lines, big ships, small ships, expedition ships, river cruises and barges, even). I would suggest looking around at the website Cruise Critic to see all the different kinds of cruises and how past passengers rate them and who they are for. Happy travels!

      I have been on 18 cruises and I am done. They nickel and dime you to death these days. So whatever price you end up paying is not the end of it at all. For the money, you are much better off just finding a nice island (St. John is my favorite), getting a nice reasonable hotel or condo and just staying put. The limited time you spend on caribbean islands is not enough time to enjoy them. But if you insist on doing a cruise, do not go on a large ship, too many people and its annoying to say the least.

    If too many people open the window and do not close their veranda door this design will play havoc with the ships HVAC balance. I'm not impressed. The balcony is just a large window that you can leave open. It doesn't give the feeling of being out on a balcony. Closet is way too small. Room seems smaller. The only thing I like was the bathroom. I also prefer drapes than the electronic blind.

      We like the added space in the room and the floor of the balcony is nicer to walk out straight out onto (no threshold to trip on and no heavy doors.
