    Looks like great conditions and you did great.. Moguls used to be my thing and now if I find myself on them I hope that they are big and long.. I didn't see many rocks.. Little trees can be interesting.. Sometimes I blast through them and sometimes I get caught up on them..
    Last season was interesting Copper Mtn got at least their 7th most snow on record.. The snow came by little amounts.. Each day got a couple and they added up.. I heard you got 60 days in last season... Congrats.. I only got 12 and my last day was Leap Day.. I missed the best skiing.. Hopefully this season I can get out more and I would definitely like conditions that you skied at Alta..

    Nice video. Good job at your turns. I’m a former instructor at Sugerloaf Maine. Thing big eastern mountain. That run on Nina’s looks like an everyday single black run with similar conditions around here. You did well for what you are used to for conditions. Having a dedicated set of narrow all mountain skis that are freshly sharpened will go a long ways on days like this. You do really well for an “intermediate”. I’d say you’re progressing beyond that in some respects. Just remember to keep your shoulders pointing downhill and commit to the fall line when arcing through your turns. Practice on freshly groomed blue/black stuff. Great job overall.

    Nice! Pro tip instead of skiing in between the longer oval bumps ski the spine of it typically it is very soft from the spray from others tails. It would help you taking a straighter path down plus it looks cool

    You can park at 2 park and rides for free in Sandy then take the bus (UTA 994 line) up to Alta and Snowbird to get around the parking reservation hurdle. The bus is free for Ikon pass holders ($5 ea way otherwise) and runs every half hour. Might be more frequent this upcoming season. Glad you enjoyed Alta. Its my happiest place. The ski school a pretty affordable 3 day camp if you want to up your game.

    Love Alta. We usually stay at GMD for a mountainside stay. We did a quick tune-up tour with a guide and he took us to some amazing spots. So if you’re not a local, you definitely don’t get the full experience. Great videos, keep it up!

    You've shown that you have the skills to ski a lot more of what Alta has to offer. There's a lot to learn about reading the mountain- where to find the good snow, where to avoid depending on temp and time of day. Alta has a great ski school, and they have 'conditions' workshops for experienced skiers- I highly recommend- years ago, those lessons at Alta took me from a sloppy intermediate to a confident advanced skier.

      @@angelinaoutside definitely do the group sessions- not quite as expensive - on a powder day, it's a great way to up your skills, and on a day with mixed conditions, you'll learn a lot about reading the mountain and finding the best available snow.

    The parking fee and reservation is for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and vacation time. December 29 is early season. It takes a lot of snow to fill and build a base. We always go by base depth and season snowfall. Alta doesn’t ski well until you reach a minimum of 65-85 inch base to open a reasonable amount of terrain. Some terrain needs 100 + inches. The terrain that Alta is famous for having is reached by going through the Avalanche gates when they are open and skiing the long traverse. When you did Hight Traverse if you keep going up higher ant all the way out to the green mats then drop in and traverse out the High Rustler ( High Boy to the locals) to find the steep stuff. If you were on the Supreme Chair you can hike up and ski Catherine’s area to get the real Alta side country experience. The Alta slogan is “Alta is for Skiers” meant that Alta requires ski mountaineering skills and a sense of adventure. They have 2,600 skiable acres. You are correct when you say it’s a place where you need to know your way around. I been skiing there since 1989. Lived in SLC for 7 ski seasons and skied 5-6 days a week all season. I had ski buddies who were locals so I got to know the terrain. When it snows you have to respect the conditions because visibility is often poor and Avalanche danger is high. I recommend you try Alta in late February or early March. Watch for that 100+ base depth.

    If you can to double blacks, what makes you think you are still an intermediate skier?

    • @angelinaoutside
      @angelinaoutside  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a video explaining it on my channel but long story short, I feel like terrain doesn’t necessarily define whether someone is an expert skier. At the moment, I feel like my skill level still sits at intermediate in terms of carving, mogul skiing, and my ability to handle obstacles.

  • @boas81
    @boas81 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Two comments: 1) You seem to have a "fixed mindset" about your skills. "I can't do that..." "I am no good/strong/ready enough for...." This holds you back. 2) You also seem to believe that your experience should meet your expectations. And if they don't then someone else externally should do their best to meet them. Meaning, Alta should put more signs for me understand ahead of time, OR Alta should make more/less snow so I am not surprised. If you can adjust your fix mindset and expectations, then you will enjoy it more.

      nonsensical comment. fixed midset ppl arent trying to ski black diamonds at a lower skillset

      I don’t think Alta “should” do anything. I have certain preferences but it doesn’t mean I expect ski resorts to cater to me lol

    I feel some ski areas in the name of safety should use as many levels as possible. Greens , blues , blue black , blacks , double blacks and triple blacks would be more helpful to progressing skiers.

    • @angelinaoutside
      @angelinaoutside  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would personally love that but I also understand people don’t want to dilute the meaning of single and double blacks. Winter park uses blue black for blue mogul runs and I think that’s a great idea!

    Another great video, thanks for sharing. As a snowboarder Alta is intriguing as I know we are banned (mental to me). Hopefully one day the resort is more inclusive as the terrain looks decent.

    I have been watching your unfortunate journey regarding your ski boots. Elliot over on Rickety Ski Reviews did a video on it. I have been recently engaged in the ski boot search myself. I have tried on 11 pairs of boots from 4 different companies... K2, Nordica, Technica, and Saloman. I am an advanced skier but I do not like to spend a bunch of extra money on equipment. Therefore, I try to find a comfortable boot in the 120-130 flex category that does not need custom bootfitting. My mondo is 27.5 and I need a mid to high volume last (width). My feet technically are 98 mm wide but I am most comfortable in a boot that is 100-102 mm. By far the most comfortable boots I tried on were the the K2 boots. They are the best fit "out of the box." They have a last range of a few mm so they accommodate more foot types (the bone on the top of my left foot juts up more than on my right). And apparently they are warm too. I do not need my ski boots to fit perfectly as I am not a competitive skier enganed in competitions. If they are just slightly larger than my feet, I am good with that as my boot will not restrict bloodflow at all which will keep my feet warmer. Just as long as the heel is locked in decently, I am good to go. Also, I buy Dr. Schols footbeds at Target or Walmart for less than $20 and they work great to fill in some of that extra volume in the boot if necessary. Theyn also can support the arch if needed.They make heavy work duty and athletic footbeds for men and women. You can also buy Sidas Merino wool lined footbeds for $65 (they do go on sale for $35-$40). Get those from REI as they have a good return policy even if you cut the footbeds). For the type of skiing you and are doing... recreational around the mountain, we just want a boot that will support us and be comfortable. I would suggest you try on some k2 boots. You probably do not need to spend extra money on custom bootfitting to comfortably enjoy recreational skiing.

      @angelinaoutside  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll have to try your footbed suggestions! We have the same thought process. I also don’t need the fit to be perfect. My feet also measured at 98mm but I find that I need at least 102. I’m glad that it sounds like you found something that works for you
