As someone who’ve been an over the road truck driver for about 2 and half years, this video only report on the issues happening at the LA port. I e known plenty of guys who Into trucking who quit in training because they couldn’t put up with the bs and quit. One the main issue with trucking right now is the pay. Most of the major companies out there right now just want to pay per mile, even though about half what you do during The day doesn’t have anything to do with driving, and too many of them expect you to stay away from home for 2 months at a time. I could go and on about the issues that cause the shortage. It’s more of a retention problem.

The independent contractor BS should be illegal and owner operators need to reconsider your path, There are union freight haulers who use owners and of course offer more or consider construction, construction will pick up especially after this infrastructure bill, I'm a company driver in the minority at my company and the owners do very well,I was an LTL driver most of my life and I moved over and I'm doing much better in construction, crazy hours sometimes but well worth it.

Been in the industry 21 years and every unionized LTL or full load brokerage have gone under because they protected lazy employees who sucked the company's dry. YRC is an absolute joke and a disaster because of employees like you. You're not entitled to a job you need to earn it to keep it. If you don't meet expectations because you're lazy go do something else we don't need people like you in the industry.

I am a truck driver, so I know what is true and what is not.
By federal law you cannot fire anyone because they joined a union. The company WILL be sued by the union, and the company WILL lose. So, them being fired for unionizing is an outright lie.
Now as for a driver shortage there is no shortage. The major trucking companies want to keep pay low so they can keep as much money for themselves as possible.
Now what they are talking about in the video about doing contract work and not being an employee. They are in fact contractors and are not employees. The scam that trucking companies run is that they convince you to lease a truck instead of being an employee driving their truck. They buy a new truck and lease it out to the first driver. When that driver quits and pays a large fee to get out of their lease contract, the trucking company lease the truck to the next sucker. And so on and so forth. As each driver leases the truck the person leasing the truck has to pay for all repairs, fuel and maintenance which is very expensive. So, not only does the trucking company has the exclusive use of the truck and does not have to pay one penny for the truck they are actually making a profit from the monthly lease payment that the driver is paying the trucking company. Back in 2000 when I first became a truck driver I saw right through the scam and never agreed to be a lease driver.
