That was a pretty exciting mine, Justin! Loved every minute of it! I really like that view at 9:50. Those blue timbers under the water were surreal. What in the heck was going on there? I like your theory about thunder rumbling through the tunnels to explain that strange sound you heard. That’s definitely plausible. But who knows? A distant cave-in occurring is also a likely explanation but that would be rare, I would think. I remember Paul and I were inside a mine about 1000 feet or so and were about to turn around and head back out when we heard what sounded like a distant, muffled thud as if a large rock had fallen to the tunnel floor. We both looked at each other and didn’t know what to make of it. As we made our way back out, we didn’t see any new boulders on the floor, so I don’t know what we heard that caused that thud. As for the white light you captured, that has happened to me twice now in the last few years. The mystery light you captured appeared after you had already panned away from looking down the tunnel. The mystery light appeared in total darkness. Same thing happened to me that one time with Tom and Julie. I don’t know what causes those lights. The fact that your buddy Todd saw a similar light from his end is very uncanny. Thanks for the outstanding video! Big 👍!

One of the other explanations is Will o' the Wisp. Damp and rotten wood can produce that.

I always appreciate your comments Frank! Unexpected noises in underground mines I bet are always unsettling. This was a first for me. That blue was crazy! The light will probably remain a mystery. I initially thought it was Todd's light, but after reviewing the footage, I don't think it was possible to travel to where I was at and for my light to travel to him due to the orientation of the collapses.

Definitely very bizarre, the sound definitely wasn’t thunder, that sounded like it came from ahead of you, could be residual noises from workers from days gone by, who knows. There might have been a death in there, possibly some trapped energy. As for the light id definitely say that wasn’t a reflection from your light, I’ve watched other videos about abandon mines, coal and what not, and miners have actually seen lights like that, your not hallucinating or crazy, strangeness exist. Hello Justin ! I am new to your channel, coming from Gly and Frank who are really nice guys, but you are also and i love watching your videos. So to your questions - i dont believe in supernatural things, though we watched long years the tv-show "supernatural" and we loved it ! I think there is one not paranormal explanation, like stonefall, collapse, reflections of the thunderstorm and reflections of fallen material. I remember an night some decades ago when i did service to the german red cross at a walking through a dark night. We were all confessed guys having a big mouth but then we saw a light in the clouds and we all got quiet at the same time....until we all saw it was the full moon that looked strange and we all could empty our full pants ;-) I think there is allways a "normal" explanation - but it may happen that in the first moment one can get crazy because you never kno,w.....and sorry for my bad school - english ! Stay safe and healthy !

I really appreciate you coming over and watching! I, too, am a big skeptic when it comes to the unexplained. That is why I took the time to explain some logical explanations of the events that were caught on video. The thunder theory was debunked because we explored the connecting workings at a later date, and there was no connection to the outside. Simply, we were so deep within the mountain that the sound would not have traveled that far. Most likely, it was a rock that fell in the distance. Unexplainable events can be unnerving when you are alone in a potentially hazardous situation! I thank you for the comment, and I am working on some new videos!

Sorry to disagree, but those are all facile claims. First statement- subjective. Second statement- I agree, but if you had noted the nature of the collapses on the back, competent rock was exposed. Third statement- you should fast-forward to the event with a pair of headphones or quality speakers... it was most definitely not in my mind. Fourth statement- thank you for your input, as I invited it in the video. It was a source of light, but couldn't be replicated. I think your theory on the sound is probably pretty accurate. Either a collapse further in or thunder.
The light, if it wasn't something in the collapse debris reflecting yours, may be possible it was something reflective that fell from the ceiling. That caught the light from you and your friend, but obviously wouldn't be repeatable. Other then that can't really think of much else.

    • @ABANDONED_UNDERGROUND
      @ABANDONED_UNDERGROUND  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you! I feel it's the most logical. I find it mind boggling for the sound of thunder traveling that deep into the mountain, it must have been a close lightning strike! That tunnel was actually a haulage adit. It was going through the native country rock which was limestone, and some red volcanic and clayey material. The shiny stuff, we didn't get to. With all of that rotting wood, it does give off a gas (my gas meter's alarm has gone off getting to close to rotten wood), and it has been known in very wet areas where organic material is decomposing, it does give off a gas that contains a chemical that can glow when exposed to oxygen. I know this event as ignis fatuus. I am leaning more towards that theory, but I am not certain. Thank you for the comment and watching!

Hi Justin, a very cool mine but what were you thinking going through those collapses ?? a dangerous move imo.
Please try not to shout in mines that are prone to collapse because the reverberation could cause another one.
With the noise, I'm wondering if a livestock farmer not too far from the mine had a drinking trough for the animals
and to supply them with year round water he ran a water pump into the mine (the black pipe), so when the trough
got too low the pump would switch on in the mine to refill it. As for the light, could it have been a beetle or similar
living in the mine whose shell reflected your light back ???. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤

Hi Sue! I was in an adventurous mood that day since the first flooded mine we visited was a bust because it was just too deep. I do know that in very certain conditions, sound can dislodge loose material, and in hindsight, I should not have yelled. One of our radios was left on the surface, so that was the only way to communicate once I got past the two collapses.
There are some mines in the areas that I have visited that do use the water as a drinking source. This one, I don't believe was the case because the poly tube does not exit the mine. The noise originated from an endless drift where there was tube, but it didn't kick from hydrostatic shock when pressure is applied. I have a pretty good idea that it may have been thunder, but not certain.
I'm starting to lean towards the light being an "ignis fatuus" which has been witnessed with swamp gas illuminating, but it's just a guess.

The rumble down a tunnel is a muffled collapse or it could have been lightning striking near the top of an open stope or shaft as you theorized. It had to be either cause. The light was a narrow shaft pf light obviously of the type of light from a headlamp or spotlight That much is clear in the video. So it had to be from your partner's headlamp momentarily shining at the right angle through a small clear shot between obstructions and reflecting off of a shiny object to be seen above the water and down on the water. Same process that your partner saw from your headlamp in both collapses even at that distance from him. Since its dark down a tunnel a distance from your light. light from farther down the tunnel will show up brightly. One other variation on that theme is that where the collapses are, there could be another tunnel with an ore passes or winzes down to those collapses and someone else could have been exploring there at that time and you saw the reflection of his/her light as he/she shined his/her light down the passes/winzes. It had to be one or the other. And no one answered because that other explorer may have been scared to answer no knowing who else was in the mine. So no mystery here. Insofar as thunderstorms, YUO SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE WEATHER BEFORE GOING TO THE MINE!! AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HIKED TO THE MINE IF YOU SAW THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AREA OR IT LOOKED LIKE CUMULUS WERE GOING TO START TOWERING!! So many people ignore the dangers from the deadly voltage that thunderstorms have. If you saw thunderstorms anywhere around or cumulus starting to tower, you should have read :HIGH VOLTAGE! or ALTO VOLTAJE! written all over that sky. I'm not calling you ignorant, I'm just very passionate about such safety. If everybody payed attention to their local weather and payed attention to the sky, no one would get caught by surprise by thunderstorms. Waiting in your vehicle is completely safe as a vehicle is a Faraday cage and sends electricity through the metal frame and to the ground without harming anyone or anything inside. A vehicle is one of the safest places to be in a thunderstorm.

Thank you for your input! Addressing the rumble- at a later date, we explored the connecting mine, and found the ore pass connecting to that flooded drift. There is no open stope leading to the surface, and the ore pass in the connecting mine is nearly a mile inside the mountain! We did drop rocks down the ore pass, and the sound that was created did mimic that rumbling sound. We think it was material that dislodged and plunged 300 feet. The light- who knows, most likely my partner's, but we couldn't recreate the result. There was no connecting winze or pass. We were in a main haulage crosscut.
As for the weather, we constantly check weather reports daily, sometimes hourly when we are going to a destination. The rain chances were slim that day, but we were still in monsoon season, so storms can develop unexpectedly. This is the case for us in this video. We all have vehicles capable of traversing some rough trails, so we did drive to this place, not hike it. I am aware of the protective properties a vehicle provides from lightning, and we try to get as close as possible with vehicular travel until we have to hike. Thanks for watching!

@@ABANDONED_UNDERGROUND thanks man. You have yourself a Tommy knocking situation btw. Happens a lot in the anthracite coal mines here in Pennsylvania to myself. I'm a skeptic too, but a lot of it is unexplainable.

If we go to mines near the border, we most definitely will experience that! lol! However, there was some supposed "testing" out in that area decades ago...
