    All of those are American/German fusion recipes. Nothing is really spot on. The speculoos cookies and cookie butter is not even close to being German or Oktoberfest-Bavarian... It’s like calling a Burrito Canadian food.
    The most messed up one is the “Dutch Baby German Pancake”, which you Americans invented and somehow managed to insult two different countries with the naming. We don’t bake our pancakes in the oven.

    • @Anakianaj
      @Anakianaj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rhine-area and Westphalia are close to the Dutchies and the Belgies - but still in Germany o: It's a cultural common heritage that predates modern borders. ... Other than that... depending on where you are ... yes... I see more pretzels than buns and more beer than water ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But yes, it's still not quite your every-day-kinda food. The Dutch baby is an american thing, derived from the German skillet pancake ... which is i think also from the Rhine-ish-area (Rheinlandpfalz...?). Many Germans emigrated to the US. Almost everything that is semi traditional and has "dutch" is actually "Deutsch" which in return usually refers to that very area that was before modern borders, so not quite "German" but also not quite "Dutch" or "Belgian"

      @@bentleyr00d again, not saying Germans can't make foreign recipes. But tell a German you're making German pancakes and zero people's imaginations of that will involve an oven. The recipe doesn't even have a German Wikipedia article. The German entry for Eierkuchen makes no mention of Dutch Baby either, while the English one does list it as a variety.
      As for German immigrants creating something in American: that makes it American, not German. At *most* German-American, but it's just not something that's a standard dish here, or that one TH-cam recipe wouldn't need to use its American name and people wouldn't have to link to American cook books. Maybe people used to be familiar with this a long time ago, but it's definitely been out of the public consciousness for a long time, or Germans wouldn't be learning about this allegedly ubiquitous German dish though the USA.

      Of course Germans don't make reference to a "Dutch Baby". As I said, it was called ofenpfannkuchen by Germans. It only got the name Dutch Baby because people misunderstood Deutsche as Dutch. The point remains though. Every time a recipe like this is uploaded to TH-cam a bunch of Germans swear up and down that nothing like a Dutch Baby exists anywhere in German cuisine. But obviously IT DOES. I gave you examples of Germans cooking these German pancakes/Dutch Babies even now. Just look up ofenpfannkuchen on TH-cam and you'll find many more . Enough with the idiotic lies about America making this up. It is utter bullshit, and you know it too. Funny how you completely ignore the proof I offered because you cannot admit that you might be wrong. Apparently Germans are very insecure.

      Modern Farmhouse Kitchen but Original german prezels, like theyre served on the Oktoberfest, are made with Lye(Hope thats the correct english translation xD) thats why they get their nice brown color.

    Okay as a german, I feel really ashamed. Especially bc of the 'Flammkuchen Bowl'. Guys Flammkuchen is french. And why adding everywhere beer? And Bratkartoffeln are just a potato dish. I'm really missing Schnitzel, Händle, Gulasch idk but smth bavarian would be nice. Kinda sad guys. :((

    You should have added "American style" to the title. I'm from Turkey but went to the Munich Oktoberfest twice and that's not what they serve. But I still like the video :)

    k y'all...this is them recreating german dishes but with a few changes here and there to optimize things like looks or taste. the title didn't say "traditional recipes". so you better stop complaining when they're just doing their job (developing and/or shooting a recipe). and before you say that i don't know what i'm talking about, i'm german so shaddap.
    (immer noch deutsch btw, ich sage es nicht einfach so, dass ich mich und tasty besser verteidigen kann.)

    Hey people I'm German too...just stop being so offended y'all. Like yes just adding beer to everything isn't a thing and doesn't make it German but doesn't mean the recipes are bad. The Titel of the video says Oktoberfest recipes and not traditional Bavarian food recipes. So let's all live in piece.
