The Gun Pods on the Mojave reminds me of the Gun Pods on the German Ju-87 G-2 Stuka Dive Bomber that was converted to a Tank Buster, the gun pods housed two 37mm Anti-Tank Guns and was first used in the Battle of Kursk.
A 500lbs GBU-12 costs roughly 25K. A JDAM slighly more. The trusty Hellfire , 150K on average and the JAGM over 300K for its initial production run Gun pods on the other hand substantially cheaper than missiles and create considerably lower collateral damage The only issue that the M134 has a substantially high rate of fire which means its depletes its magazine very quickly The happy medium would be single barrel 338 machine gun Not has heavy as the 50.cal but fare destructive than 7.62
Signal jamming can be stopped but simply using a weapon like a HARM locked on to the jamming signal. This can be a auto response to the detection of active jamming. Another easy way to beat jamming is with the use of directional antennas pointed up to the comsat or control aircraft so all jamming coming from under the UAV is useless.
Not sure if gun pods are a viable mission set for an expensive UAS unless you have excellent situational awareness. It is probably a good way to get shot down vs. dropping longer range precision guided munitions.
Personally a 50 cal would be better Ideally either a dual designed or revolver so it can switch ammo types as needed Centerline mounted with moveable turrent or use a 338
@@jjjr.1186 Not likely M134 has the rate of fire but 7.62 lacks the destructive capabilities of the 30mm round The MQ-9 airframe isnt designed to support heavy auto cannons

Given the U.S. military's pivot to neer-peer considerations, I fail to see the utility of outfitting a drone with a very short-range 7.62mm weapon. These drones are not at all stealthy, and any neer-peer adversary would spot these drones from a hundred or more miles away. Even if one considers using this for intercepting insurgents or pirates, a shoulder-fired "MANPAD" missile, for example, Stinger, would outrange this mini gun. Better to use the drone's hardpoints to carry missiles. Yeah, missiles cost more, but they have FAR more reach than a mini gun. A mini gun on a drone doesn't make sense in a military context. It seems to me that its only utility would be against unarmed or lightly armed civilians.
Maaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn I can’t wait till they make a drone capable of utilizing the 20mm GAU-21 weapon system 😂 watch out A10 a new CAS master has stepped into the ring 😂😂😂😂

I believe it is not a STOVL, but STOL, short take-off and landing, not vertical landing.
Yea, it cannot land vertically.
Every aircraft can be a vertical landing aircraft... ONCE.
That makes sense. I was thinking to myself, “but how can it take off and land vertically?”
@@gardnert1hilarious and correct!😂
Not to mention, GA-ASI plans to have the gun pods rotate with the camera!
Like mini gunships on armed overwatch in the right, survivable, conditions.
UAV A-10.
unmanned warthog
some day

Step by step we are building the terminator machine.
Imagine a uav with a warthog gun attached
The Warthog 30mm gun is big as a little car 😮
Thatd defeat the purpose. This setup (7.62) limits collateral damage
The warthog minimum wasn't that effective in reality..

M134 Minigun changed barrels shooting 6.5X51mm (Kreedmore ) accurate up to ~1400m .
Missles are darn expensive. Drone swarms with ai can over saturate air defenses. We will see cheap drone swarms lead the way in the future.
Love those mini guns!
Would work in some situations, but useless in an environment with a lot of signal jamming.

SKYNET APPROVES !
Start Terminator music 🎼 🎶
"Look! It's full of rounds!"😱
Makes me wonder why it took so long. RC hobbyists have been mounting paint ball and air soft guns for 15+ years now
Errr the test run stated that 10,000 rounds were spent.
I'm guessing that the UAV had three or more gun pods.
Cargo transportation is interesting. It has potential.
The last thing any insurgent would expect to see is a large drone-diving gun running where they're standing:)

Badass.
rather ask - if finland's passenger airliner had to return when they jammed your gps, where will your drone go?
A10 killer?.... or a hint that A10 is on the way to be converted to a remote control operation.
Just turn A-10s into drones. Everyone knows that's obviously a good idea. Where's my job, General Atomics???

Can it fire 40 mm grenades ?
Now, let's go for some level of AI autonomy. How about a drone aircraft carrier?
It is a STOL, not a STOVL.
