  • This week, the 46th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will deliberate on whether two Western Cape sites achieve World Heritage status.
Following years of rigorous stakeholder engagement, quality assurance, and international evaluation, South Africa has put forward three nominations, Diepkloof Rock Shelter close to Elands Bay in the Western Cape, the Pinnacle Point Site Complex in Mossel Bay Western Cape as well as Sibhudu Cave in KwaDukuza in KwaZulu-Natal.
Successful nominations will be protected under the World Heritage Convention and inscribed on the World Heritage List.
To tell us more we are joined virtually by the Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC Ricardo Mackenzie who is currently in New Delhi India for this session.
