- On May 29th , 2024, 77 years after his death, the MLB recognized Josh Gibson as their career and season batting leader, beating out Ty Cobb who had previously held this position. Gibson played the entirety of his career in the Negro Leagues and was so talented that many called him the Black Babe Ruth.

Yes sir the GOAT!!!
Wish i had cards from this era
Hard to assess the over-
all quality of pitching that he faced and the
level of Defense in the
league(s) that he played
in.
Also, I don't think he was
regarded as a top-notch
defender and there's no
way of knowing his abil -
ity to call a game.
It's hard to imagine that
there ever was a greater
catcher than Johnny
BENCH !?
I disregard Bonds as the
Greatest Baseball Player
of All - Time &/or the
Greatest Black Player of
AT because of the PEDs.
I believe Willie Mays was the Greatest Black
Player of All-Time and
one of the GOATs of the
game; but, there have only been a few Black
players to get close to
the level he played at so
I'm not ready to believe
the many Blacks who got shut out of MLB prior to 1947 were somehow these amaz -
ing superstars when
the ones who have played in the last 77 years haven't been any
better than the best of
the White, Latin and, now, Asian players.
There's a need to elev -
ate the older Black play -
ers because of the in -
justice that was done to
them but that doesn't
do them or the sport any
service because the true
assessment of ALL the
Greats of the Game should be the goal of any discussion about
talent and achievement.
The simple fact is that
there are amazing base -
ball players from many
different backgrounds
and that's what makes
the game our National
Past time ! ⚾♥️
