Ake Festival 2022 | IN CONVERSATION WITH ABDULRAZAK GURNAH

It is an absolute honour to have Abdulrazak Gurnah with us at the Ake Festival. Last year when he was our headliner, his session was virtual. Now we have him in person. In his novel After Lives, we meet a young boy, Ilyas, who was stolen from his village by the German colonial troops. After years away, he returns to find his parents gone and his sister Afiya given away. He meets Hamza, also returned from the war. Their fates linked, these young people rebuild their lives until the shadow of a new war on another continent disrupts their lives. In this special Bookchat hosted by veteran journalist Kunle Ajibade, Abdurazak Gurnah, the winner of the 2021 Nobel prize in literature, will discuss his compelling new book and other wide-ranging topics.
