    Your work is amazing, Jon. What a huge gift you have given - your talent and your creativity! You inspire me every time I watch one of your videos (especially the one I'm in!). My son is taking physics next year and I have already told him about you.

      Thank you for your kind word Audrey. I look forward to (hopefully) teaching your son.

    Refreshing for the test (APP1), pretty confident after knowing everything in this vid to an extent. GJ as always.

      His name is Anish. I think his guests might be high school students from the classes he teaches in person.

    Is pendulum periodic motion? Because oscillatory motion retraces it's path and the pendulum does retrace its's path right? Whereas Periodic motion doesn't retrace it's path

    • @carultch
      @carultch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both a mass-spring oscillator and a simple pendulum are examples of periodic motion that do retrace their path. That is, a pendulum that swings in a fixed plane. Periodic motion need not necessarily retrace its path exactly, just that there is a periodic repetition of properties of its path. For instance, if you had a pendulum that were moving toward you at a constant speed, while simultaneously swinging back and forth, I would still consider that periodic motion, even though it may never touch its previous path a second time.

      @@AbrarTheQureshi If you are curious of a further application of a pendulum, related to your question, I recommend researching the Foucalt Pendulum. It was the first way we measured the Earth's rotation without depending on observing outside astronomical bodies.

      Physics has applications to psychology. For instance, understanding optical illusions, and why we have an incorrect perception of reality, when our brain super-imposes assumptions on what we think we see. There is physics behind the scenes of everything we see in this world, and much of it is second nature to us, that we don't consciously perceive it.
