What I thought happened: Rehousing video Petko squished the tarantula while trying to capture it after it escaped. What actually happened: Tarantula carefully plotted an intricate escape plan to leave the dark den and live life the the fullest, then met a mature female spider and became food.
That's insane how a true spider, while being significantly smaller than T's, managed to take one down. Evolution really speaking of itself I guess? Sorry that happened Petko but really awesome video with the rest of the goings on!
Size doesn't matter in the spider world. Or even venom, for that matter, a dinky little cellar spider has been known to make meals out of much more potent species. Not to mention all the wily schemes portias get up to.
@@jaschabull2365 I get cellar spiders in my kitchen in the summer because it's so humid and they are vicious!! They invade the house spider holes and force them outside and then kill them, wrap them, and leave them at the entrance until they want to eat them. Even the small barely visible ones will take down spiders 10 times their size and steal their homes. They're also cannibals though so I shouldn't really be surprised.
That was such a fun feed! Kinda like whack-a-mole game except you're giving them food to make them pop back down into the holes, lol. Hopefully that makes sense but, I thought it was more fun watching you feed them one by one. I know you're kinda getting burned out or feeling like you don't have new content to offer and think you're just making (what feels like to you) the same videos over and over again and that's why you cut back to once a week uploads **however**, just please keep in mind that you're probably getting new subscribers everyday PLUS those of us who have been here watching you and your collection grow for years, we do not get bored of feeding videos, rehouses, enclosure builds, etc. Because, even though it may feel repetitive to you, you have so many animals who all have different personalities and usually nothing truly ever goes exactly according to plan, lol, so, even what may seem like a mundane video to you, is still exciting for us. With all of the species you have, maybe you can start doing species specific videos or create storylines for your most displayed T's and narrate their days or pretend relationships with each other or what they think about the tall, lanky human slave who brings them their meals and even sets them up on hubba hubba dates, lol. Maybe that's childish or not your thing but, I'm just trying to throw out ideas just in case it isn't burnout but, you're just having a type of creators block or something. There's so much potential to expand your content if you really want to. If you don't however, and are happy with your decision then I fully support that of course 🖤🕷🖤
Totally agree! I really think because he is the one saying and making the videos all the time he thinks it’s repetitive with us as a new subscribers as old subscribers it doesn’t matter to us it is amazing every single video and we want to see the same things over and over again
My tarantula's own their homes to you! I subscribed years back to help get over my phobia, and now I have begun my own collection! Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do!
Best feeding video, looked very fun. I started collecting Tarantulas this past February only have 4. My favorite time is feeding time. My favorite to watch feed is my juvenile Avicularia Avicularia. It made a nice web/nest at the top of its enclosure. The only time it goes down to the substrate is to grab the cricket that I toss in there--it brings the cricket up onto the glass to be eaten. Yep, eats the cricket while on the glass about 8 inches above the substrate. fun to watch.
For the backdrop, I use to buy concrete and concrete stain. And I used it to strengthen my background. You can still mold it or go for the rock look. I always use the black concrete stain but there are other natural colors to choose from. It’s easy to mix and dries fast. You wouldn’t even have to take everything down, just past it on the wall and let it dry.
Gata say, Felix's new skin is really vibrant and colorful! Poor little sling, the big world is a scary place. I wouldn't mind that other spider, but what bout all thoes kids? Thats gona be a huge family. idk if id want that many scurrying around looking for places to set up shop. Idk, just seems like potential trouble to me. Hope it works out ok.Glad there was no more escapees, lets hope it stays that way lol
what I like about the dark den is that he reads the comments. Maybe not all of them cause 500K+ subbers are hard to manage but he keeps contact. Exotics lair doesn't read them in the least, we kept telling him about the saqdust for example and the comment section was full, it was impossible to miss the advices even if he just read the first and most liked comment it would have been enough. Hope Petko remains as he is now and keeps contact.
Well, the silicone practically seals the foam, so even if you add some cement type material, it wont get absorbed and make it strong. I'd scrape it off or use the wire brush drill attachment (like sepra design does) and then add the cement. With both of us being in Europe, maybe you can find the isomat-aquamat, a cement that is used to seal drinking water reservoirs, so its non toxic and completely water resistant. Maybe some shredded fiberglass can make it even stronger.
Awesome video Petco! This has to be my favourite enclosure so very happy with the time spent on it and the feeding time too. Also seeing Linda was a cheeky bonus unlike seeing Felix trying to commit Harry carry. 😱😂😂😂
I don’t care if they’re just big brown tarantulas, H. gigas is one of my absolute favorites. Are you planning on having a paludarium communal with them when they’re bigger? That would be my goal. Mine loved his water tub, I put a simple food container that was a few inches long in there and he would just sit in it
I know Serpa Designs uses a concrete/cement paint on some of his foam backgrounds (they even have tints you can add to create a variety of different colors & custom shades). He just recently made some for kamp kenans black throat monitors grow-out enclosure (he is still very young and small) and between the texture he created before painting the foam with the concrete/cement paint (I forget what it's called, dry lock maybe?) the monitor was very easily able to climb the foam/rock walls and not penetrate through the paint and it looks so naturalistic and I know that you are more than capable of creating something like that as you already do minus that special paint that hardens like a rock.
What a great video! Just the whole thing from start to finish how a T got taken down by a smaller regular spider and then that communal feeding was brilliant!
If you watch Snake Discovery, they've been using backgrounds made by Universal Rocks that have a polyurea coating that's super durable and completely inert when cured. I wonder if you could find something similar to coat the green tree monitor background with? Otherwise I know they sell some of their backgrounds on Amazon, at least in the US. Might be worth checking out!
Petko, don't worry so much about the videos. We all enjoy your uploads, independent of the content. Regarding that housespider: although it looks pretty cool I would seriously suggest to remove it. In Germany we have similar species to that one and tarantula hobbyists even consider them as pests because they breed like crazy and can (as you saw) be pretty dangerous to pet spiders. Its crazy how they can prey on much larger animals but that is a risk in an animal room like you have one...
I used cement and sand mix on polystyrene and then a aquatic friendly vanish and it's waterproof and tough. Careful though as vanishes can melt polystyrene.
Bro. The Dark Den looks amazing! What a great place to hangout. Dig the beginning of this vid. Need a pad for that seat ya hanging on in the beginning. Keep it up bro!!
Idk if it would look good but maybe you could put clear glass or plastic panels over the background in the new lizard habitat. That way you still get the look but it's also protected.

Hopefully before you get your green tree monitor, you can set up two or three humidity hides with sphagnum moss. Dayyan learned a lesson about their humidity needs lately and I think it would be good for you to avoid some of these hardships, too. Also, their claws are better for climbing than digging and they don't really destroy as much as you think because they are light weight and their claws are sharp, so they don't use much pressure when they climb.
Wow, thank you for such an amazing video, I can’t wait to see Linda in a very large enclosure, the tree monitor? It would also look very neat to keep each spiders molt un apoxy resin! Its would keep its protectes and you can position it in many ways! It will never get damaged!!

mr. The Dark Den, you could try some sort of cement or you could use paintable epoxi, you dont even have to remove the backgrounds for the enclosure for that. good luck love the content
They're just opportunistic. A lot of male spiders will wander into other species female spider webs while roaming for a female of their own species without realising there is a predator nearby. I've watched it happen quite a few times. They're just not very clever. Sometimes females try to steal homes from other species females too. They very rarely win.
