Are there any issues with code for using MDF against the fireplace? I thought you had to use a fireproof material within 6 inches of the opening. I have a gas fireplace and was looking to do the same project.
Yes, there are requirements for a certain amount of inches around the opening to be non combustible. It's hard to see in this video but there is black metal around the opening to meet the requirement. Also the floor is non combustible.
It's wood burning, but seldom used and only designed to be used not as the primary heat source (i.e. duraflame only). It's hard to see in the video, but the firebox is inset smaller than the overall opening and surrounded by black metal for the required clearance.

What kind of wood did you use for the shiplap ?? Did you also get it from homedepot?? Thanks
Hi there, this is MDF shiplap. Yes we got it from Home Depot
It is pre-primed MDF, so that's why it is white in color

Being this this is in time laps. I cant understand what steps are taken to put the shiplap up. What to use to place on wall. Etc...

How far did you measure out from each side of the fireplace boarder?
