- Hi Friends! My name is Amanda, if we have not met yet! I live in zone 6a in Southwestern Ohio. I am going into my third year of intentionally growing my food to preserve it! As you will see, I LOVE seeds!
In this video I am harvesting garlic and it is my largest harvest ever!

Our Garlic matured a good 4 weeks earlier this year. We only had one week of snow and really cold weather. I'm zone 6b-7. We planted our on Oct. 31st down 4 inches , covered with 4 to 5 inches of shredded leaves and collected the scaps in mid may. By June 1st the bottom 5 leaves as well as the tops had browned off. We normally don't harvest til end of June or at least by July 4th. It turned out to be one of our best years. I dry all of my hardneck garlic with the roots and tops on. It's now June 24th and all the garlic are dry and I've cut the dried stems off leaving about 2 inches and cut the roots off for storage. Use a pitch fork to help get the garlic out. It's a game changer.
My area had a pretty cold winter! But this spring felt much hotter, earlier! I will definitely keep the pitch fork in mind for next time!!! Thank you!
