the lore behind the music video is that at the end of the last video tyler/clancy was captured again by the bishops and they forced him to write a propoganda album called 'scaled and icy'. in this video the bishops have taken them out of the city to perform one of those songs for some of the citizens on a sub but the dragon appears to help them escape from what the bishops have planned at the end of the trip. in interviews tyler said the name of the album is taken from the phrase 'scaled back and isolated' becuase these songs were written during covid lockdown with him and josh sending ideas to each other back and forwards from different cities. he wrote this song about how days seemed to blur together during lockdown and asking his wife to stick with him through it. he wanted the dragon 'Trash' on the album cover to represent imagination and the visuals and the sound of the album to be brighter and more colourful to compensate for what was going on in the world at the time.
Saturday is such a great song, glad you got to it. Since you love the videos, they have BTS for all their major videos where you can see a little of the process.
in the story, Clancy is being forced to perform in Dema for the other citizens to make them feel like everything is good; at the end, they are freed by the dragon and end up washing up to shore where they start to make their trip back to Dema to the final confrontation with Nico at the end of the Clancy album
YAY!!! I was so happy to see that you're back on the lore train!! This video is so fun! For context: Tyler/Clancy is being forced to perform propaganda music at a swanky party for the people of Dema by the Bishops, after being kidnapped by them at the end of the "Levitate" video. Hence why the music is suddenly so bouncy and poppy, and why he has pink hair; He's being forced to be something he doesn't want to be, against his will, in order to appease the Bishops. In fact, the whole Scaled and Icy album is propaganda Tyler/Clancy was forced to write about how totally great and awesome the Bishops are, and how completely fine everything is in Dema; Nope. Nothing evil happening there at all.... It's so cool, how their music ties into the story! And the creature that destroys the sub is Trash the Dragon, who is on the cover of the Scaled and Icy album; He was kind of their mascot at the time. The next song coming up is one of my favorite TOP songs and videos, and I am SO excited for you to see it!!!
Just cause you mentioned stranger things….. at some point check out their mashup of their song Heathens with the Stranger Things theme, live from Romania. It’s pretty cool.
the music video for Saturday in my opinion is not really directly related to the story, but this is as an introduction to the character "Trash" the dragon who will reappear in the next installation. (also actually there is one video that is not directly related, but as an introduction to the character. maybe you can check the "Chlorine" music video). It is also mentioned that the album 'Scaled and Icy' is propaganda carried out by the Bishops. that's why they use contrasting colors like pink and light blue, colors that are very different from what they have done before, also they do full pop which is not like before. because the bishop forced them to do that as a form of distraction. I'm not that deep about the whole lore so maybe I can't convey it in detail and maybe there are some that are missed and inaccurate, but hopefully this can provide more explanation.
It is directly related to the story tho, this Music video is described in Clancy notes as something that happened, and the Outside Music video starts right where this music video left off

I hope you keep going with more Twenty One Pilots. They have a DEEP catalogue, the story/lore is just a really cool piece of a bigger pie.
