    Bought the Beast 14' Black Hole with the XL canvas at the end last year's season, can't wait to use it. My only gripe so far is where to store all the camping stuff so you don't have to load and unload 30 things every time you use it. But I've bought a 72" x 24" x 24" diamond plate box I'm going to put in place of the salt shields that will hold everything.
    Nice to see your set up. Tight lines.

    • @AlexTimm

      Really good idea on the the box, maybe next season they can offer something like that as an add-on option. Now get out there and use it! 👍😉

    What a sweet setup Alex! If you had the chance to buy a a power station again like the Rockpals would you go with the 500 or 300 from Rockpals? Do you feel you are always charging your 300? I am wanting to purchase a power pack as I have already bought a 120 watt panel. I just don't know which one to go with for a power station. Keep the videos coming man!

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I'd for sure go larger on the power station, the 300 is nice, but runs out pretty dang quick. All depends on what you are using it for though. What are you thinking of using it for? I've tried a few different ones out all the way up to this beast I've got: at.fish/AceVoltCampower2000 Would be happy to help with a recommendation based off my little bit of experience using them if helpful 👍

      @ryanronan4198 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I am planning on getting a power station for my cpap needs on the ice and to charge marcum M5's. Probably not looking to stay on the ice more than 2-3 nights in the hub. Also, would be running a LED light at night in the hub.

    nice to see those ceymars, solid reels for the price. Keep trying to tell my friends to buy them on Amazon for dirt cheap and they don't listen. Had a buddy borrow my rod the other day and he's like "this reel is really smooth" yea no doubt I've only been hyping these for a while.

      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Ice is definitely something you want to learn how to read and understand before putting any amount of weight on, especially on early and late ice. I'll be doing some open water content come spring/summer/fall 👍

    How well did the thermostat in the flameking work? I've got the same shack and the same heater. It was -10 Fahrenheit outside and the heater got the inside over 95 degrees on the lowest setting and would not cut out. Only reason I bought it was for the thermostat. Great video BTW.

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thermostat functioned for me on the Flame King properly, I did notice you want to make sure you do really good banking as to not have cold air blowing on it, but from the functionality of the thermostat it worked well. However, I am not a fan of the cycles it goes through during the start up and shut down and have since gone back to the buddy heater

  • @daved2403
    @daved2403 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video, thanks! Two questions - is the rockpal power station better or would it be better to just get a large lithium battery with a power box that would have similar inputs/outputs? Seems there is premium above the raw battery price they charge for the convenience. Also, how do you keep the ice shack clean of ice when drilling holes?

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think both have their purpose, what I like about the rockpal power station is the outlet on it, and it being pure sine wave along with solar panel rechargeable. My goal with this is to avoid needing a generator on multi day trips in combination with power boxes that can be used for my 12v electronics.
      If you leave the shack up a little bit off the ice when drilling the holes the slush and shavings will spread under the house and then you can drop it the rest of the way. They also make a slush bucket that if a person wanted they could get which captures the shavings that come out of the hole and then you just dump it outside

    • @daved2403
      @daved2403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexTimm Yeah good point about the 110v power outlet as you would need an inverter to get that with your own power box.

      Thanks for the comment, I am going to do more testing with it this weekend coming up in comparison to the Big Buddy heater. I left quite a bit of air flow going to make sure I was good, but my CO detector did read up to 50PPM at one point. Not sure what caused that or if a fluke, but I picked up an extra CO detector, and will have a brand new in box Big Buddy and my old Big Buddy. Unfortunately there are so many variables that I need to eliminate before I figure out my specific issue, could be the hose, a connection, the heater, the tank. Play it safe and make sure to use a CO detector whenever out in a portable

      @@AlexTimm I think the Problem with the Flame King heater is that it keeps switching on and off due to the thermostat. Every time it switches the heating element on it needs some time until the gasflow is enough to support a constant even burning flame. Until then it releases only partly combusted gas. In a small shack like yours i think it switches on and off many Times and therefore release dangerous partly combusted gases. The big buddy does this only when it starts. I could imagine this is the reason why mr heater doesnt put thermostats in its products. Im not an expert this is just my guess. PS: sorry if this is Hard to understand, im from germany.

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment and well said, makes sense! I think you are exactly right too. I'm going to do a bit more testing this weekend and then report back probably with an updated Flame King Heater video. Thanks!

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Black Hole Ice Shack is $4500 - $6000 depending on which model you get. Of course the accessories inside are on top of that and can be as inexpensive or expensive as you want. I prefer the creature comforts when ice camping for a couple nights 👍

    • @AlexTimm

      Based off my research it's actually lighter than air and can be found with warm rising air so higher placement or even ceiling placement is ideal. Maybe I'm misinformed?

      @@AlexTimm The molecular weight of CO is 28.01, where the molecular weight of CO2 is 44.1. This means that the CO2 gas is much more dense than CO.

    • @reidsimonson

      @@bfighter125 That's not accurate. Neither is OP. CO is not heavier than atmospheric density. Knowing the molecular weight of CO2 is useless as the atmosphere is composed of less than 0.05% of the atmosphere. Nitrogen or Oxygen would be a better determiner. CO is a neutral buoyancy gas in typical atmosphere. Best to keep the detector close to your face or at mid level.
