Thank you for filmning us! Some more info om the home guard bands: There are in total 25 different home guard bands in Sweden, and consist of volunteers with a contract with the home guard. The musicians stem from a variety of backgrounds like amateurs, semi-professionals, professional civilian musicians, former professional military musicians etc. Most of the different home guard bands perform once a year at the changing of the guard, and the rest of the year the bands perform concerts, do ceremonial music at their home regiments, etc. To ensure a high quality a close collaboration is done with the music inspector and various active, professional military musicians, and there are for example also courses at the Royal academy of music in Stockholm specifically for home guard conductors. Nice! I rarely see the band other than coming up the hill when I drive them as I did this weekend I have now taken them safely home to Gävle and listened to this driving home to Stockholm.
It is called a Vasilbassun, a traditional Swedish military band instrument from the early 1900’s used to play the parts of bassoons! A rare sight these days.
The band has two examples of typical ”swedish” instruments here, the valved trombone (ventilbasun) and the Eb rotary cornet (esskornett). The latter is essentially a swedish take on the german Eb soprano Flügelhorn.

Tomorrow, monday, it will be mounted parade, you dont wanna miss that if you're in town :). Then it will be the Life Guards' Dragoon Music Corps playing. Speaking of mounted: The both police cars in this video are from the Mounted Police, that always are responsible for the safety during the parade. Sometimes they are on horses. If the parade is mounted, they are.
Hi there, that’s my intention to watch the mounted parade this morning, looking forward to the spectacle! Interesting to note that about the mounted police officers (in cars) are escorting the parade.

However, since last week they won’t ride with their traditional Pickelhaubes, since they are currently disallowed to wear them on horseback for safety reasons. It’s however a temporary solution, since new, safe Pickelhaube helmets are on their way. They do wear them while dismounted, though.

Great video! Second March from the end is “I gevär” and the last one is “I Sommarstaden”, both by Swedish composer (and former music director for the former Swedish life guards band) Per Grundström.
In Sweden!!! Hope they were up to expected standards. Full time 🎵🎶 probably on holidays ...did this a very long time ago with a white helmet 🪖. Nice marching route. Legs starts marching while watching. Sure the King is very pleased with today's job. The opera covered in white. We need a new one but funding is an issue...and maybe where to build it. They save themselves for the uphill to start at the obelisque. Nice entertainment.

The march that begins at the 1:40 mark was featured in the 1954 film Desiree starring Marlon Brando as Napoleon Bonaparte and Jean Simmons as Desiree Clarry his first love who eventually became Queen of Sweden.
Do you know what instrument was producing the "wah wah" noise? I cant figure it out, I'm thinking it might be the instrument that looks similar to a trombone at 8:10, not sure what its called.
I visited Norway back in April of this year and saw HMKG, the Royal Norwegian Navy Hand and the Staff Band in concert with videos on this channel, it was a fantastic trip and I hope to visit one day soon again!

The route was a little shorter than normal due to street festival at Gustav Adolfs Torg
