I live in Idaho and moved back from the south in 95 used to go to a bar & literally wear the jukebox out on somewhere between heaven and he'll footprints on my ceiling helped get me sober & my son's first concert was pushed up against the rail.. And during the first song Mr Ness pointed at my son and threw him a guitar pick . I love the man thanks for being you a survivor who gives the rest of us a gift in music
After being a SD fan since the beginning I found myself in Corcoran State Prison when White Light , White Heat , White Trash came out . That cassette not only made my stay more tolerable but actually had me reflecting on life choices the brought me there in the first place. I don’t always agree with MN but the man is an inspiration and an awesome performer. Rest in Paradise Dennis
I saw Social Distortion with Neil Young in Chicago during the Gulf war. I had no idea who they were but I immediately knew I loved them. From their rockabilly sound to the cuffed jeans and white tee shirt with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve. A few years later I met my husband and Social Distortion was one of the bands he loved. Flash forward 1999 we introduced our newborn to the music we loved and shared and forward to now trying to find tickets to see you, a family of fans.
Good seeing you recover, Mike. I was devastated when I heard the news, you had cancer. I am very happy to see you're doing well. Looking forward to seeing you, again,in Vegas 2024. Stay strong, healthy and happy. You are loved by many. ❤
First exposed to Social Distortion in high school in 1982. Loved Mike Ness and SD ever since. Lucky enough to see them many times over the last 40 years but taking my kids to see them in Vegas in 2019 has to be my highlight.
Mommy's Little Monster was one of my first punk rock records i bought in 1984 and its still an all time favorite! So glad Mike is back to health and kicking a.. like he's always done! His records really got me through some rough times, and I am a fan for life.
Thank you so much, this is the Christmas present I needed.❤️ so good to see Mike in good spirits, recovering well, I’m beyond happy for him and his family, he’s a true inspiration since so many years. Thanks for everything Mike, the world needs you, ❤️
Been a fan for many years! Mike you're a true inspiration and a incredibly beautiful human. Be well, stay strong and never give up man! All the Best! See you in Philly soon!!! 🎉🙏🎸😻
Brought some brand new tears seeing this having lost my sister in 2016 & my dad in 2020 both to cancer and loosing my best friend/husband/business partner (Chris was my everything) inexplicably death June 2023…. The moment in time my world got turned upside down. Music of various genres including Social D has played a tremendous role in my healing, coping, and rebuilding of a life without Chris …. My Birthday was Dec 17, so this was one of the best bday gifts ever.. Social, Bad religion & Dixxon…doesn’t get any better!!! My prayers for Mike will spread to as many Christians as possible & keep on keeping on… We Live to fight another day brother !!!
Always been a fan since 81. Saw them a couple of times in Germany and this year in February in Brisbane with BR and it was a fantastic show. All the best, Mike!
Brining tears to my eyes. Ness is the man! His life and issues come thru in his tone/music! Thank you Mike Ness for your music and helping me thru hard times!!!
So good to see you recovering! Thank you for the interview and all the amazing music you’ve gifted us over the years 🤘🤘🤘. Your Ring of Fire is how I discovered Cash and it’s one my daughter loved dancing to with me as a young child. Still does
Cancer is the Devil man. Took my mother this year. On and off with different types of cancer over the past 25 years. Took my grandmother and many friends through the years. Fuck cancer I hope Mike kicks its ass as ell😂as anyone else reading this who has it or has been affected by someone who in their life going through it.
I'm so glad that Mike Ness is doing alright. I've never been a Social Distortion fan, but he seems like such a nice guy and he's so iconic to the Punk and Hardcore scene. The work he did back in the early 80's made it so much easier so guys like me in underground Grindcore bands could tour more easily, and I'm grateful for it. Plus, his version of Don't Think Twice is, imo, the greatest version ever recorded.
March 2017 show at the Ventura Theater, Mike came out to talk to a crowd after the show, blown away at what a down to earth, humble guy he is. Godspeed to M. Ness, will never miss a chance to catch him locally
Bad ass interview!!! Mike, I am glad you are doing well and going back at it!!! I am so happy you are doing well and back in the mends!!! Love ya!!! Best frontman ever!!!!!
Wishing the best for you Mike, keep pushing on! I love how you decide to be grateful for what you have and to keep fighting. Thank you for everything and best wishes for that new record! Looking forward to it. Cheers 💯
Still got my postponed tix from last year. Thank I for coming, not that I ever doubted u. All the best to u and ur family. All the love in the world~ from a kid from the black hole
I’ve met mike several times as a late teen. I was born and raised in O.C. And social D was the band to see, watch and listen to. I remember telling him how I thought it was funny that folks believed that SD was a punk band? He asked what do you mean? I replied “SD is a hopped up band of Johnny Cash and Stones ! He smiled. BTW , I was afraid of him. He was a tough and rough kind of fella full of swagger and attitude! Can’t wait to see SD soon!
Im glad mike is doing well. His music has helped me so much throughout my life. I didnt have the easiest life but theres something about SD that always helped me keep my cool. I thank mike for this. Im glad hes doing better
I was the winner of two tickets at the Majestic Ventura theater about two years ago for you guys and could not show because of life circumstances. Such a mess I could not get over until literally a week ago where I was literally listening to Bad Religion''s How Can Hell Be Any Worse album passing the SB Bowl to see Social Distortion and them in bold headlining the marquee for this Summer. It's been a bucket list item of mine to watch you guys play live, and so it seems fate has reappeared in some form there. Hearing about your cancer is a gut shot from my perspective, though, and I can't say enough to thank you for the subliminally arching effect your music has had for me over the years, all of it positive. With dream like consistency and aperature, too. Feels like something out there guiding me along helpfully, so I pray the same keeps you safe for as long as possible as well. God Bless
I can still remember the first time I heard Ball and Chain. I was driving through Garden Grove headed towards Tustin on a beautiful sunny morning with the window down in my Ford pick up listening to KROQ. And then Bam those massive Les Paul chords filled the cab. I was blown away. God bless you Mike, I pray your throat heals fast.
My dad used to listen to social D while I was a young kid in the car. In highschool i rediscovered the band and have been listening ever since! i wish the best for you mike, and thank you for the amazing music youve created.
That’s awesome!!! When I drove around with my dad he would play Hank Sr. Or George Jones. I loved it. I love it more now than I did then. I play that, & Social D for my son now. He says he hates it, but I know one day he’ll love it. I know because when he was still in diapers he would dance to the Ramones version of Surfin Bird all day long. Thanks for sharing your experience.
So cool seeing these two together again. I watched Matt through the 90's as a kid on MTV as the "rock" VJ, and then was introduced to SD in 1999 when I started high school by my best friend after having never heard of them. Thought it was so cool to see Mike unbelievably (to me) on 120 mins not having known Mike and Matt had known each other previously.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Mike. I wish it didnt happen to anybody, but especially to the lead singer of one of my favorite bands of all time. So many Social D songs that bring loads of memories for me when I hear them. Mommy's Little Monster especially reminds me of my ex who introduced me to Social D. Get to feeling better man. Your fans miss ya
Great interview, Matt!!! Thank you for reaching out to Mike, and thank you, Mike, for being strong and having that fighting spirit. I'm sure having your wife and two boys does help to keep fighting for, besides your passion...SD. Love to you and your family❤ See you next year!
Best interview I've seen in quite awhile. The mutual love and respect between these two really comes through. As they've both been through the wars there are no airs, just an excellent conversation-Cudos to Matt for the excellent questions and humble rapport. Best wishes to Mike for continued recovery and hope to catch SD on tour! ❤
I saw social distortion first time 1990 in the aud in buffalo you guy's were a WOW. Everytime see social distortion there's a new message for me in a show
Wonderful to listen the insights and perspectives from Mike and the coming 2024 . We think we are strong until we pass this devastating test and realize we create new opportunities to share 💪
Still got my tix for last year's tour. We wanna see Social D, but we wanna see them healthy and happy. Rest up Mike, we'll be here when yer ready to get back to the stage.
Mike must really have his guardian angels on his shoulders constantly considering everything that he has been through, kudos to him and his cancer recovery! He resembles Dustin Hoffman a bit here lol
One of the most underrated songwriters of all time…forget the punk label…just a fantastic storyteller and performer
One of the best if not the best in any genre of music. A true musician. One of my heroes. His songs have so much heart behind them.
Good health to Mike Ness; the world needs his music!
That's why we have records.
@@randallscott6 Hehehe yeah, so if the guy croaks we can still enjoy his toonz :) My devil how cynical

It's crazy that Mike still sounds just as chilled and calm as always. Cancer is a bastard, but nothing can beat Mike fucking Ness!!
He's the king of rock and roll
His voice sounds way better than even a month ago. Go Mike!
