I have heard the hum, but it is not constantly with me. It is when there is no other background noise. We have pylons on the outskirts but pylons make a totally different sound to what I hear. It does not have an electrical hum. I live in Bristol UK and there is a known phenomenon here called the Bristol Hum. One thing I found interesting was that 2 of the people who could hear it meditated. I too meditate. A known effect of meditation is that you become more aware of things in and around you. For instance. I have problems with flickering screens and lights that nobody else seems to detects. My husband who also meditates also has this problem. In addition, I suffer from fybromyalgia and it is a known fact that a sufferer becomes more sensitised to sounds, smells etc. I recently had my hearing tested, and for a 50 year old I was told my hearing was very sharp for someone my age. I hear high and low frequences like someone half my age. I also have tinitus in one ear but that sound is completely different, very high frequency and I hear the hum over it. As for it's source. I wonder if it is a natural thing, something connected with the type of rock, natural watercourses. Perhap a certain percentage of the population is sensitive to these natural frequencies and perhaps when you do such practicies as meditation or have a condition such as me you become more attuned to it.
