    Hammer had amazing branding-before we knew about branding! I was totally convinced that he was a guy of ease who danced. But in hindsight of the power of gangs in the 80’s and 90’s, Hammer was that man and possibly still is. In addition, he needs his flowers for his amazing accomplishments in hip hop.

      Hammer was never PG. He was from East Oakland. He just didn't make his music about being a fake thug. Actually, very little music was about that in the era that Hammer came from, that doesn't mean kats wasn't doing that; it just means the music wasn't co-opted by corporations yet, who pushed that side of it.

    Having lived on the East amd being from the west, dudes from the east always thought the west was "fruity" or "gay" until they saw stuff first hand.     When I was a kid living in Hawaii (old man was military), we'd go to the probowl every year. All the players would stay at the Hilton so that's were you'd go to get autographs. I think it was 91 or 92, but Deon Sanders was there and he was walking on the beach with another dude that we(all the kids) we're pushing out of the way to get Deon's autograph. My dad took a Polaroid and showed it off at work the next day, turned out that dude we were pushing out of the way was ....M C Hammer. Afterwards, I ended up ambushing Eric Allen trying to sneak out of the back, he was in a hurry but still took the time to talk to me and sign my card, I never forgot that.

    I spent the better part of a Saturday morning trying to find a pic or a glimpse of Mike Concepcion with Michael Jackson at the 1990 American Music Awards, but came up short (the show is in full on YT). At 3:55 Serch says MJ won a bunch of awards at the 1990 AMA but according to Wikipedia, he wasn't even nominated (Janet was though). Either Serch got the show/year wrong, or I'm looking at the wrong thing, but something doesn't add up.
