@@jackattack3429 i think the mis-step is completely disregarding the flexibility of additive mechanics, how valuable to gmod a proper sandbox mode with spawn menu is to the rest of the gamemode. By making every gamemode distinct they're essentially trying to make Roblox 2 instead of GMod 2. but we'll see, if it gets a community going it might take off, but it'll be different for sure.
So s&box is actually a lot more diverse in what it can do as well as just being more developer friendly in general. It honestly looks really cool because supposedly the gamemodes can range all the way from a realistic tarkov-like shooter to a cartoony top-down party game. I think one drawback from gmod that I hope to see fixed is just how confusing it can be at times for someone who isn't used to downloading a bunch of assets and addons. If this was streamlined a bunch then s&box could be a staple in pc gaming like gmod was.
yeah, the thing that I want removed the most is the instances where you have errors or missing textures and you have to download obscure cs source or similar addons to get them
yeah i made a lengthy comment explaining why a Steam release and thus a Steam Workshop would go a long way into making the game a memorable one. The reason Gmod is alive 19 years after release is purely because the ability to mod and the ability to download mods is so streamlined and easy, and so both the users and mod makers benefit from it. And now with Sandbox being on Source 2, I imagine it would be easy to port those S1 mods to S2. Maybe S2 already has a tool built in to it that can do that.
His got a pretty good point, with gmod being so popular and so active after so many years and people making so many mods and stuff for the game alot of people won't make the transfer to s&box for that reason, company's making games loosely based off other games dont last long unless you do something that really secures your audience and draws them in, what really makes gmod gmod is how many imperfections there are in the game its what makes the game fun
the whole point of the project is to not be a sequel to gmod, they have literally stated that time and time again. I don't see the point of commenting stupid shit if you don't even research a slight bit of it lmao

Good, stable and playable content make it interesting for as long as you have it. Your comment is entirely comprised of the most generic excuses for not wanting to change. It's fine if it hasn't given you enough excitement to transfer, but don't try and grasp at straws to justify that.
@@ShinyChimpeeHe didn't say imperfections made the game good you moron, he said it made it made it fun. His entire point is that for a game as old as Gmod, despite its setbacks, to still be active is the mark of a remarkable game, where making sequels, successors, or other derivatives would alienate its core audience Look at Back 4 Blood piggybacking off Left 4 Dead. Look at Lawbreakers riding off the hype of Overwatch. No success, despite desperate attempts at copying one
I saw a video by someone, saying S&box isn't GMod 2, and that it would be a downplay of S&box to just call it GMod 2. In the video it showed why it was not just "GMod 2" and I have to agree. It's more of a game engine, it helps you create games, there are many many things you can do and many games you can create from what I've seen. Even top-down games.
Yeah I saw the video, I just had to let people know it was from the making of GMod while also trying to figure a way to fit it into the title and thumbnail, it was a little hard. But yeah, if they do more research into it they'll see it actually bigger than GMod
The biggest concern to me is the modding capabilities. Much like my subscriptions here on TH-cam, my Workshop subscriptions on Gmod are vast and have been finely tuned to my liking over a period of 8 years now. I have over 300 mods I'm subscribed to, and until those modders themselves or fans of those mods port the main ones I use to Sandbox, the game won't be an actual "competitor" to me. It would be easier if they had a Steam release and thus a Steam Workshop to go with it. For example, I remember when Teardown first came out on Steam in October of 2020. It had no Workshop, and you had to go on shady ass sites to download mods for it like GTA 5. It has a Workshop now, but it didn't get one until March of 2021, a whole 5 months later. As soon as the modding for that game did go mainstream (as I'd call it), the modding scene blew up like a California gender reveal party. Some of the most creative maps and weapons for the game that people still use today were created in that early 2021 period when the modding tools and a platform for those mods to be uploaded became easily accessible. I know this may have seemed like a long ass rant going nowhere, but the point of my story is that Sandbox won't be "Gmod 2" unless it starts treating itself like a sequel to Gmod.
S&box isn't about modding, it's more like making whole ass new games. Think of s&box like roblox but for source 2, the idea behind it is for users to create whole ass new games and for people then to create addons for said games to expand onto it. People have already ported tf2 and half life 1 deathmatch over just to show you the capabilities of the game.
You continue to ask great questions and find great clips. Do you take question suggestions? If so, can you ask them if they will ever play Halo MCC mods? MCC mods have so much variety and that is on top on of pre-existing mods for CE and 2. It would be cool to see them play modded campaigns like L4D or Firefight like CoD Zombies.

Evan makes a great point, look at L4D2, when people realized it was a bit of a disappointment, one of the issues that evan pointed out here, can the community do anything with it. Can you mod it with ease, will people go to it rather than L4D2, if someone does play the "original" (or past) games, why are they not switching? Money? Modding? etc
They may not know it yet, but when they get their hands on it their minds will be blown by what people can make. It's more like Roblox than Garry's Mod due to the flexibility of what you can make and will likely surpass it. Hopefully I can buy it so I don't have to deal with an economy because that would suck.
probably the number one thing I would look for is a more engine, everything in the source engine feels so stiff and plastic. Obviously the source engine is ICONIC for its wonky physics and object collisions making fun sounds and stuff, which I absolutely wouldn't want to lose, but the engine is like 25(?) years old at this point and it really shows its age, not just in the textures (which I guess is more the graphics than the engine anyway), but in the animations and everything. Back in the day that was fine, but things move so much more fluidly now, and I think it would really help to have more flexibility. Then again, maybe updating the engine for things to look and move nicer would lose the charm
Ngl i kinda agree with vanoss if there is not the same or more(+user friendly) to do in s&box then what point does it serve, i dont think that the current population of gmod cares about the graphics sure it would be nice but by far from a deciding factor P.s gmods graphics also have a nostalgia factor related to half life
