It's a great park to bring kids as well. My 12 year old daughter will ride there all day long and I don't have to be overly concerned with the terrain on most of the trails. The lift is a huge plus as well.
@@Projectnortheast she’d kill me if she read this but she cried when we had to leave and had already done over 30 miles of downhill. 😂 I’m not big park guy so Loon was great to get some jumping skills back. Funny, I know the exact jump that you were complaining about. Every time nose down!
The Loon park as it is right now makes more sense if you think beginner to intermediate progressing riders. It's not Highland, and I don't think they plan to make it another Highland. It's being built by the same folks potentially with a different demographic in mind. Also, it's only maybe 4 years old. I suspect a lot more is coming and things will change in the next five years at Loon. I'd be curious what you think of the park at Stratton so far. It's about the same age (2019 start) and I'm still kinda underwhelmed but they are planning an expansion to the summit.
I went a few times over the summer. They certainly have room for improvement, but I'm sure it'll get better as they add more features and trails. More tech trails would be nice too. Right now they all seem to be flow with some small tech features thrown in. It's definitely still under development. It was a nice change from busy Highland though.
Yeah like I said in the vid I basically found 1 run that I would go back for... hopefully they add in alot more expert terrain otherwise I can't see myself going back except for maybe with the kids. But that might be the target audience too...
I was trying to get out there this summer. Most of the trails look pretty wide, which is nice for those that are new to downhill MTB, like the boy, and I. BTW, killing it as usual with both content, and production quality.
@@Projectnortheast if they let them, Highland could build an incredible park there. Start with better dirt though. To many ball bearings/decomp granite in the berms
Highland has been a large part of these trails but Loon also has a very dedicated crew working hard on this bike park 6 days a week. As for the comment on maintenance, lots of things need to be considered when building this stuff in the national forest. Lots of limitations and protocols to follow so it’s not like Highland could just come in and design an older brother of itself. Highland is a private hill, they can basically do and build whatever they want.
@@Projectnortheast their plan is on their website and they're planning to build through 2030. This year there will be a new black and another blue trail. They have big plans, but their goal is to make a park where families can ride. Has potential, but looked kinda slow. For now I'll stick with Killington, Highland and Thunder.
Sugarloaf doesn’t have any downhill trails that are regularly lift-served. Despite the rumors, it doesn’t look like they will have any in the next year or two at least. Mount Abram is definitely the up and coming downhill MTB spot in Maine.
@@frankschock9981 I'm running Nobl TR37 rims which have an internal of 30-32 I think. I don't find it squared off no. Even if it is squared off I don't notice a lack of traction... even on off camber slab rock the grip is tip top
cool vid but cutting off kids is not the vibe. stop for a sec and wait if others don't move over. those further down the hill have right of way, basic mtn etiquette.

The timelapse of the lift looks very stylish. Well done 🤙🏻

By your trail edict... we're thinking your a beginner
Loon needs to step up their maintenance game before more building.
But they need to build more too.
Do they even have a maintenance crew? I know highland has been doing the majority of the actual building
@@Projectnortheast I just assumed that they did but would not be surprised to learn if they didnt

Dope cuts thru kids... meatballs it down the hill... then Braggs to his friends... you can see even his buddies are... omg!
Thanks for the comment my friend! Glad you enjoyed it.
Seriously - low key brags, then excuses himself with a "thats what bike parks are about". Lame.

Soo sick we have loon trying to compete with killington competing with sugarloaf now. Only real winners are us 💪
For sure! It's nice to see in out home state.

not the largest
