The gnome noise being used as a censor made me laugh more than it should have.
Finding the Gryffindor challenge after so many years (I think I was over 18, got the game when I was 10) was a dream come true. Literally, I still dream about secret levels in my favorite games when I sleep.
You can actually flippendo the bathrooms without debug mode by positioning yourself a certain way, I remember doing it as a kid, fun times
Yeah or throwing a gnome behind the toilet and hit him with flippendo. You’ll hit the toilet as well.
The music from the Gryffindor Challenge is used in the console versions for the joke shop in Diagon Alley - Gamble and Japes.

My current unanswered questions:
-Why does Fawkes play that music
-Why are there pigs in that room in the castle when I'm pretty sure they're not used in the castle map, only Hagrids hut

About Fawkes' music: I always thought this was supposed to represent the legendary song of the Phoenix which is also referenced in the book, but instead of a song he just gets his own jam in the game. The music sounds eery, other-worldly, strange - but still magical. And the fact that they even made this minor detail is another reason why this game is so great.
You hear that Fawkes music play a little bit in the cutscene where he flies into the Chamber. I guess for whatever reason the devs decided to make it an ambient effect produced by the Fawkes model rather than write it into the game's soundtrack.
Even though more than a year has passed, guess I'll still answer the pig question. Looking at the map in the editor, the Pig has a peculiar CutName (the name actors are referred in cutscenes) which is Mrs Norris. My assumption is it was used as a placeholder until the petrified model was made, or it might have just been some sort of joke.
Same goes for Hagrid in the Privet Drive sequence. His CutName reads Uncle Vernon, and it was likely a placeholder for a cutscene that was eventually never realized.

as for Fawkes music, I've just recalled something. As Roberto had hinted, it is indeed a reference from the book. Before Fawkes popped into the Chamber of Secrets in an eruption of flames, Harry could hear a "eerie, spine-tingling, unhearthly" music. It's referenced in Chapter 17, "The Heir of Slytherin".
I discovered that in the first demo, if you position yourself behind Lockhart statue and cast spongify on the carpet so that the spongify spell hits the statue instead of the carpet, you can get infinite ammount of beans. You can then flex that you have quadrillion beans that you can't use for anything 😎😎😎. Also the Lochart audio will stack up if you rapidly cast on the statue so its pleasure for the ears.
The way I used to hang around the Gryffindor common room door CERTAIN there was something more to it... And now to find out I was right!

This game has made my childhood so magical and I still crave it today. I've recently played it again and accidentally found the Gryffindor Challenge, which was a blissful shock to me.

You can also give yourself the sword in other areas of the game. A strange effect it has is that using it on any characters or objects just remove them from the world, leaving behind a bunch of smoke.
Another weird effect is that the impact of the sword beam can activate nearby spell-related objects, like Spongify Tiles and such, almost acting as a sort of universal all-purpose spell.

(Also, when trying to activate spell-related objects, be careful not to accidentally destroy said objects.)
This simply is the worst and best piece of information about this game i ever wanted to know. I may place you in my imaginary hall of fame for this. May your tea never get cold my friend!
I prefer the first demo better. It feels like actual level fro the final game, while the second one (again, at least to me) looks like one of those levels made by modders, where everything feels random.
Also, for me the most intriguing part of the unfinished Whoomping Willow map is that part where you are supposed to cast Lumos fot the first time. On the final map you learn here that this spell reveals hidden areas, but this isn't what Harry says himself. It is Ron who mentions this in later part of the level. The most notable detail in this 'beta' version is that the corridor you need to enter next is much darker than in the 'alpha' and Lumos light actualy helps here like it would in the books and movies. My theory is that at some point there was considered adding to the levels areas where it would be totally dark and moving around without active Lumos would be a nightmare.
But that's just my speculating. I din't find anything about it being in cut content. I obly used what I found myself, like areas in the final game that would benefit from similar mechanic.
Actually I was thinking a similar thing for Lumos, they never actually really use it for seeing in the dark!
@@PhilOfGlimmer Maybe it made some sense on older monitors (those big cubes that cats liked to lay on). I remember playing with in the setting with brightness to see better.
If extra dark parts were actually considered at some point, then I guess they removed them because they would be too scary for children.
i grew up with the xbox/gamecube version of these games. they were part of my childhood, and will always have a special place in my heart 😌

True, I did it as a kid. Does it give anything though. I casted Rictusempra at them like 1000000 times, but that gave nothing.

PS I stuffed the whole castle with gnomes. Totally fecked up the cutscenes and everything. LOVED it!

We played the demo so many times in anticipation for this game.
I hit the 'Like' button faster than Lockhart when he subdued a Hungarian Horntail with nothing but sulphur flavored Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans.

The rooms that are just filled with people standing about are there to store the "actors" until they are called in to do the scene.
The Clapper boards in the room in the Chamber were probably just models placed over cutscene triggers during development.

I found out about the infinite toilets glitch all by accident on my own hehehe, and promptly set about filling the castle with gnomes! it was beautiful ^_^
You can actually repeat this glitch on many different kinds of objects by wedging a gnome just right, behind the object. I remember maxing out my beans in the scourge challenge by getting a gnome behind a red pot. I like to make the suites of armor endlessly dance with this trick too hahaha

Oh, and just FYI, the music in the Gryffindor Challenge is the same music you hear in Gambol & Japes in the PS2 version.
I tried the first demo (after playing the actual game) and I didn't know there was a second one. I'll have to try that too. I also once played the game and made everyone into Draco. I still like to turn the tiny spiders in the Aragog fight into Dracos, it's fun to see them all walk around.

There is a much easier way to access the Gryffindor challenge without debug mode, by creating a text file and then write [LevelEnable] Enable= True. Then rename the file to ABC.int and then place it to the System folder, hope that helps Phil 😊
Turning harry into basilisk is the real deal. After that the game won't be the same anymore.

When I recently played CoS with debug mode I discovered game breaking... glitch?
Normally entire dungeons part of Entry Hall hub is closed off until the Potions class, but if you go there early with the help of debug mode, for any reason don't open the chest with potion ingredients! The tutorial requires you opening this particular chest, and then going to the cauldron with the bark and themucus. However, if you opened the that chest earlier and have ingredients with you, Snape will stop from going straight to the cauldron and thus leaving you stuck before the already opened chest you can't use Alohomora on anymore.

No clue how we didi it but me and my friend somehow found a bug that let us walk around the flying car cutscene without cheating. Needless to say we were stunned.

i dont know anything about making video games but are the rooms with all the characters and stuff so that when they’re needed for cutscenes the game coding can like tell the game to use those ones or something??? weird that they kept random ones in that dont appear. if anyone here understands this sort of thing please explain

Maybe Hagrid and Filch are in those cutscenes because the lines of Narration are tethered to character models in the scene.

I didn't know where to ask, buy have you thought about doing something like top 10 secrets in HP games? By secrets I mean those areas you need to unlock to get cards and extra beans.
When I was like 5, I encountered a bug that would simply load a file into a blue backrooms kinda void. The launcher would seem to think it was a stable file, but it would load into (what I now know to be) Startup.unr . I've uploaded a little clip about it, if you'd like to do further research

At 2:34, that's not Lockhart talking, it's Jim Dale. Jim Dale is the guy who narrated the North American version of this game. I know because I'm a Canadian who grew up playing this.

you totally forgot swordmode, just type "swordmode" into the console and then you can walk around with the sword of gryffindor and destroy any object you want.
It would be nice of someone who can do this sort of thing make a Remake Mod, with some graphic improvement or some new levels. But I know It Will be Only a dream.

What is it? :O
Okay I’m going and try to explain. When Harry returns from giving Norbert to Charlie (the escaping Filch part of the game), he gets to a bridge. There are vases next to the bridge, Peeves will break out of one if you get close to the bridge. Then Filch will also come out, screaming to Peeves. Peeves leaves, laughing, and Filch will start crossing the bridge.
You, as Harry, have to wait until Filch has crossed the bridge. The bridge is too small for Harry to pass Filch - Filch will always catch you if you do. But if you use Flipendo on one of the other vases that Peeves hasn’t broken, Filch will run back. Now this is the hard part: when Filch has ran back, try to get onto the bridge BEFORE Filch does. I had to try a lot of times to get onto the bridge first without Filch catching me. But if you finally manage, the result is hilarious.
Mrs. Norris is waiting behind a door for Filch, in the normal cutscene she greets Filch and he pets her. But if Harry is first, Mrs. Norris is frozen in place and you can use Incendio on her. When Filch finally reached the door, there will be no Mrs. Norris and he will pet the air xD. While Harry is also in the cutscene watching Filch.
After that, there are more funny moments that make no sense, because Filch is meant to reach certain places before Harry does. You should try it out!

But I'm really sure the Gryffindor Challenge could actually be unlocked via DLC or Mod.
Because I actually remember my brother installing something on the PC to actually unlock the door, and make it playable without the debug mode.
I unfortunately have no idea what it was, since it was over 12 years ago...

I've read on the Cutting Room Floor wiki that it apparently was part of a promotion with Coca Cola as they shipped a disc with all kinds of stuff like wallpapers as well as an int-file that unlocks the door to access the challenge
