A Music and Emotion Meditation to help channel intense feelings of anger into self-understanding and emotional healing, transforming your music-listening experience.
Transcript:
okay, just take your seat
and gently close your eyes
and become aware of the feeling of your body in space
just let it resolve itself
into a cloud of sensation
become aware of the anger within you
let your mind be open as if it were the sky
notice the sensations associated with your anger
observe how they appear
change
and disappear
all on their own
you don't necessarily have to control them
nor can you fail to notice them
everything is just happening
now, let your awareness shift towards the music filling your surroundings
listen to these external sounds and rhythms
notice how they appear
just like waves
on the surface of your consciousness
allow the music to intertwine with your anger
strive to see the next melody
the moment it appears
and the moment you notice that you're consumed by anger
feeling it without being fully aware that you're feeling it
become clearly aware of that present emotion
observe as it untangles
and slowly fades away
as the music flows in your ears
and you notice thoughts come and go
sometimes probe the origin of these emotions
is there a 'you' producing them
or are they naturally surfacing
from the vast depths of your consciousness
observe the feeling of being the thinker
also as an object of awareness
this feeling
is just another transient appearance
in the wide landscape of your consciousness
As we approach the end of this session,
gently open your eyes,
and with a calm and broad gaze,
direct your attention to the space in front of you,
whatever it may contain,
maybe it's the device playing your music,
or the familiar surrounding you're in
Allow your visual field to dissolve
into a palette of colors and shadows,
let go of your anger and any judgments
about what you see,
and focus instead on the raw information that your eyes offer
Once again,
I honor the time and effort you've put into this practice,
carefully navigating and acknowledging your feelings of anger
Breathing in the sounds around you,
let the music ground you,
offer you some perspective, some release
