This is awesome! Great information about the areas!. We just came back from visiting some of the area. For a couple in their 50's "(early retirement)" how is the medical access to speciality/primary care (oncologist/hematologist). Two years ago we moved from eastern LI to outside Bluffton SC , we are struggling with an overwhelmed infrastructure and limited access to medical care/specialist in our area. We are now doing "extensive research" to find another forever home and I believe virginia offers property tax exemptions for 100% disabled Veterans. Thanks for the video!
Hi Margaret! I'm so happy to hear you like the video. Thanks for watching! While I don't have any personal experience with the hospital/specialist medical system (very thankfully) I reached out to my network for their experiences, and here's what they said. I hope this helps! "My family has had a lot of luck in williamsburg for specialty for optometry and orthopedics! They seem to have a quite a few specialty type practices there". "All specialties are represented well in the burg no access issues in our area and most are Medicare providers. Between TPMG, Sentara, and Riverside there are many many options". "Access in the area is EXCELLENT. Not sure about other health systems but Riverside has a thriving lifelong health division in WMBG and lots of options for specialty needs". "Both Sentara and Riverside have an excellent network for both of those specialities".
How's the flooding situation in Northern York County? I'm getting stationed in Langley looking at houses in that area I've never dealt hurricanes before but it seems like the elevation is good (at least better) but I'm not sure if they get slammed by hurricanes constantly?
There really isn't much flooding to speak of in northern York County. The elevation there is much higher, relatively speaking, than near Langley in Hampton or Poquoson. Those areas tend to get it much harder when hurricanes come through, and a lot more of the residences are on or near the water.
Thanks Amir! I think Marquis Hills, specifically, has some pluses and minuses. They're a great value. Ryan Homes will certainly give most people their best opportunity to build new at an affordable price in the area. Location is interesting in that it's right behind Target and kind of away from all the other neighborhoods in the area, but convenient right off the highway. The lots are very small there - most under .15 acres - so a big yard is rare. But also some have basements, which we don't have a lot of. So could be a good fit for the right person.
Sure! First, I'll say there are many neighborhoods throughout the Williamsburg where some of the homes have basements. There are many homes backing up to creeks and small hills that necessitate a basement foundation, but they may make up a small percentage of the total neighborhood. Here are some neighborhoods with the highest number of basements: Colonial Heritage (55+), Fords Colony, Kingsmill, Liberty Ridge, Port Anne, Stonehouse, and Wellington.
Hey Vinny! So I'm not technically supposed to give my opinion about the schools. I like niche.com for school ratings. They have Williamsburg/James City County Schools ranked as the 8th best in all all of VA and 3rd in Hampton Roads behind York County and Virginia Beach. I think they're all rated A, overall.
There are several in Virginia that I'm aware of, but they're all in the western part of the state. Probably a 3 or 4 hour drive away. There is an amish furniture store in Williamsburg though!
I’m moving to Williamsburg march 16th! I was there this past weekend and loved the town! Can’t wait to call Williamsburg home!

Great video! What are your thoughts on the "new construction" neighborhoods? (i.e. Marquis Hills)

Is it possible to find houses with basements? My husband has lots of tools and needs basement for his hobby workshop
Yes, absolutely! Around 10-15% of homes in Williamsburg have a basement, most of which are walkouts
Could you list some of the communities in Williamsburg that have houses with basements?

Thanks for the info! How are the school systems in and around the area?

@@movingtohamptonroads ah figured as much, good to know!
Is there any amish communities near Williamsburg?

We’ll be there next week! Exploring areas for retirement.
