    Such a simple invention, but very cost-effective. Great stuff.

    Regarding safety, it appears that at 1:47, operator had lowered his tracks, and was dragging them for braking. He then raises them before going around the corner.

    Especially good that the operator can slew the tracks around tight corners, like rear steer

      i thought i was the only one who noticed that, that setup is as convenient as it can be to move 300 tons of equipment at 30 km/h.

    That was a very impressive invention! I'm from Gillette wy, our coal mines would save a lot of money with this device. Moving equipment without this is very costly and extremely time consuming, as per the initial idea of the device I assume. Although MSHA would have to approve, and they wouldn't.

    • @Alex-us2vw
      @Alex-us2vw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wouldn’t MSHA just have to ensure work is being done in a safe manner, and PPE is worn, and overhead hazards are being mitigated. Approving the equipment would be like them needing to approve a new piece of heavy equipment, or a ladder/shovel/broom before it’s use.

    if you notice in the vid when u see the shot from behined it looks like the undercarrige is splayed out so i would imagine transporting like this is also putting unusual stresses on the excavator or shovel.

    people making a big deal about the safety of this.......typical....... Even if the bucket did slide out of the rock truck the damn tracks will just set down on the ground and stop the machine! It's not like it's gonna take off rolling away!.......Some people just need to work at McDonalds............

  • @TheFeller1554
    @TheFeller1554 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That is awesome. i bet going up a steep hill they have to make a provision in the truck bead so the excavator doesn't slide backward.

    • @cvytnioy56dvfuj4g7
      @cvytnioy56dvfuj4g7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, No they don't, we have a set which are used to move our fleet of Hitachi EX3600-5 and 3600-6 Excavators, they work well, no issues with the bucket/dirt sliding up or down, an operator in the digger who knows how to drive/steer with the slew is a must.

    Great idea, but the bogie 'frames' would need to be a tight sideways fit on the excavator tracks, to ensure the bogies stay PARALLEL to each other for obvious reasons! The frames would also need to be lined with rubber to stop the tracks slipping out on rough roads! Also, you would need to chuck grease into the tipper body, to allow the excavator bucket to easily 'turn', on bends, otherwise the bucket would wear a hole in the tipper body, on a long trip!

    • @panzerstrom
      @panzerstrom 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The heavy ridges on the dollies and on the tracks plus the weight of the machine seem to keep it in place, rubber would just get chewed up after a couple of uses. The dumper is filled half up with dirt too avoid steel on steel contact no grease necessary.

    • @jamesbradley1695
      @jamesbradley1695 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point. I suppose if the ridges pretty much matched the spacing of the track ridges, the dollies (bogies) would stay parallel as well! Half filling the body with dirt is a good idea, except on a steep incline it might be wise to chain the digger bucket to the truck as well, in case it slipped out!

      Obviously, there are a bunch of different versions and they all appear to work without your "wonderful" advice.
      You know the advice about it being better to be quiet and to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt? Well, you pretty much blew it.
      On an actual relevant note, I think it's an awesome idea and we built similar smaller dollies to go under aircraft landing gear so they could be manually hand-bombed in any direction, in tight spaces. AND, we managed to do it without the "advice" of James either :)

    Hmm. This needs intense training and close communication. I bet the truck driver could make the excavator tip over quite easily when he just cuts a corner too fast. This exceeds the speed the excavator was built for by far.
    Yet, when in expert machine operators hands, a very clever invention.

    that's exactly the same way the old broyt excavators were transported, except they did'nt have tracks but 2 normal wheels in the rear and steel wheels in the front. the broyt x1 was made in 1950 and was one of the first wheeled excavators to have full hydraulic operation W/o drive

      Osha doesn't even regulate mines or quarries you dumb ass. Msha does, and if this wasn't msha approved they wouldn't even be able to have it on location. Mines and quarries can easily get shut down for violations, therefore they absolutely follow msha regs and guidelines. Don't make dumb fucking comments especially when you have no knowledge of the subject.

    I don't think this would be very hard on the excavator or the truck, the weight of the excavator is probably 80-20 on the heeleys, saving the truck, and excavators are meant to be able to use their buckets to lift one side of the machine, but only buying a set would really tell.
