  • Hello friends! Today we wander the fairy tale medieval town of Riquewihr in Alsace. Situated between the peaks of the Vosges mountains and the Plain of Alsace, Riquewihr is a medieval town right in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards. It is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (the Most Beautiful Villages) in France.
The town was first mentioned in 1094 and obtained town status in 1320. The town prospered in the 16th century when it served as a hub for wine trade and still remains so. The city suffered little damage during the two world wars and has retained much of its half-timbered architecture from the 16th century. For centuries this magnificent town has managed to combine the quality of its architecture with the quality of its world-famous wines, from where it gets its nickname The Gem of the Alsace Vineyards. I hope you enjoy!
The walk was recorded on May 27, 2023.

From the Colmar train station, it's a comfortable 30 min. bus ride on Fluo Grand Est Bus 68R016 heading towards Ribeauville. From the station, the bus stop is the last one to the right. Fare is cash only, 4€ each way. Pay on the bus, the driver can give change on small bills. The bus stops right at the town gate at Hotel de VIlle and picks up at the same location. When heading back to Colmar, make sure you are at the stop early as the bus may arrive earlier than scheduled.

nice video, but the musical introduction... please. it's not even Alsacian. Just a french "cliché".

😬 We’ll be happy to get music recommendations! We tried but it was challenging to find Alsacian music that was not copyrighted. Glad you liked the video anyways. Thanks for sending a note.

@@fablb9006 I agree, but if the objective is to give the video authentic vibes... 😕. But i'm not Alsacian, just lived there for 25 years...

    1. Thanks for the clickbait!
    2. Is it allowed to film on the streets without anonymizing the people's faces??

      1. You're welcome! lol
      2. That's a fair question...I was a fan of virtual travel walk channels before we started ours and wondered the same thing. There are gray areas for sure, but it's generally acceptable to film in public spaces where there's no reasonable expectation of privacy. It has not happened yet, but if someone asks me to not film them, or take their image out of the videos, we would certainly do so.
