Vista SP2 is good when run on something that ISN'T a potato *cough cough* OEMs shipped Vista PCs with only 512 megs of RAM so that's one of the reasons it was so slow lol

Oh. A BSOD in Windows 98! Surely upgrading to ME will fix that! Give 8.1 a try. It fixes a lot of what people don't like about 8, and it runs beautifully compared to 7. Sure, the start menu sucks, but with how much time you spend within the start menu, it's not so bad.
I know your comment is from before Windows 10 came out, and I too didn't have much of a problem with 8.1. But now that I've upgraded to 10, I now cannot stand Windows 8 or 8.1. I don't know how I lived without the Start menu.

My laptop upgraded from 8 to 8.1 without my permission, and became impossible to boot. I was using dual boot and the upgrade messed up my mbr. Only way out was to revert to factory setting
I always thought that early phase of the Windows XP install looked interesting. Then I realised that it was Windows ME trying to display it in 16 colours.
No, XP first just uses a basic GPU driver with 16 colors,and 640x480 resolution for the setup. After that, it installs a more advanced driver with higher resolution and more colors.
my first os was XP. Still have fond memories of me making custom knight rider boot animation and lock screen background (wasn't possible to change it back then). Also got KITT & KARR screensavers that work on any version of Windows. Then came 7 and then 10 last year.
I think my own upgrade path went: CP/M > MS-DOS 4 > MS-DOS 6 > Win95 > Win98se > Win2k > XP > Win7 2k is the best compromise between usefulness and stability, based as it is in NT. In fact, if it had better 64bit driver support, I might still be using it instead of win7. When win7 goes out of active support next year, it's the end of the line for me. I'll probably switch to Debian.

Win 10 is terrible. It forced people to install it, destroying some people's files in the process. Not to mention the weird start menu, Microsoft Edge, and bing search. Also for alot of people, it is slow and crashes alot. Some are saying it crashes more the ME, and ME was so terrible it was a complete waste of time.
I don't think, that Vista is bad OS or it sucks. The way it works depends on what kind of computer you run it. For example few years ago i had PC, that was dedicated for Vista and worked pretty well with Vista, also as i was reinstalling it, Aero was on by default and it worked surprisingly good without driver installed.
I agree. Most people claimed performance was poor because OEMs shipped the more demanding versions of Vista (Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate instead of Starter and Home Basic) on PCs with frickin' _512 MB of RAM_ and because of the new memory management model.

With Windows ME, if a dog pissed on your car tire out in your driveway while you were at your computer, the tire wouldn't go flat as the old joke suggests. Instead, Windows ME in your home office would throw a BSOD.
Most of the effects are thanks to Aero, which still exists to Windows 10 nowadays. (minus the amazing Aero Glass theme, but some things are still transpearent) And yes, Aero handles things like dragging a windows to the side to resize it and performance improvements by drawing the windows onto the video card, not the GPU(?) or the CPU(?).
Although this video came out 9 years ago, this is still one of my favorite videos since I watched this video in 2015.

XP and 7 are comfirmed to be the best OS's of all time. Vista crashed a fucking lot
Dependng on machine you run Vista at. Really, i had Dell designed for Vista and it did NOT crash at all.
Vista was really bad when it comes to memory management, which is what causes most of the BSoD's.
