For the first time, Gus was concerned with the Cartel after that meeting in Pollos Hermanos with Lalo. He was not the usual Salamanca, neither the ordinary cartel henchman. No treachery words, no big tough guy bullshit … he was dealing with someone at the same height of his intellect and cunning.

Eladio was always measuring people up and testing them by setting little traps. I'd say out of all the Cartel members we saw on the show, Eladio and Lalo are easily the two smartest and most capable. Bolsa looked smarter than what he was, Lalo was right about Gus still wanting revenge and Bolsa died because he didn't listen to Lalo

Apparently, he was supposed to put cilantro in, but Tony Dalton thought that wasn’t authentic enough for Lalo. So he he made the change and the directors loved it.
Epazote is basically a hybrid herb of Mint & Lemon Balm. Since it has a similar flavor which resembles refreshing mint like notes & smells distinctively like lemons. Even though I'm a chef by profession, I never even encountered that herb before. Probably because it doesn't grow in middle europe I guess & is indigenous to Mexican soil only. It's fascinating how some food items aren't even exported & are only known by the natives of a certain country. Basically the key flavors of Mexican Cusine are: Cumin Seeds, Cilantro, Cocoa, Chillies, Pork Fat, Corn, etc Too bad, Lalo was born into the Cartel business. Because he would have made an excellent Chef in the BCS timeline. I can't help myself but to picture a Montage of Lalo cooking while he's sticking his nose into a chickens butt & sniffing it like it was cocaine. lol

Honestly I think Lalo is the best (most dangerous/smartest/ most clever) villain in the entire universe. He was even smarter than Gus, Gus just got lucky in the lab and I think the whole situation with Lalo helped him to learn and become as smart as he was in Breaking Bad. I really wish we could have seen Lalo in Breaking Bad.

I know a guy who is friendly like Lalo and even looks like a smaller version of him. He’s from Brazil though. He has a similar happy personality. He hasn’t killed anyone that I know of though.

He is a superior villain. Needless to say he was impressed when Nacho didn’t even respond about the food.

Lalo = gato just got more and more elaborate as the series went on. Even before they got to his catnaps, they had him literally batting at a loose wire on a bedspring.
It's crazy how stressed Nacho would be in these situations with Lalo, like when Lalo tells him to go back up the road 6 to 7 miles, that would make me think for some reason he wanted to kill me and was gonna dump my body there, imagine that situation. Before he explained about Saul's car breaking down there was no way to understand whats going on in Lalos head

I don’t think anyone knew that Lalo had poison in the food he offered Nacho, to see if he is as smart as everyone says he is and if he’s worthy to keep around, even with his charmful ways he was willing to kill Nacho through the food to prove a point, he even hints “your going to die” in such a way that we think he’s being metaphoric. He is a superior villain. Needless to say he was impressed when Nacho didn’t even respond about the food.

@@DoomWar1 it’s not implied in the show it’s a power move from Lalo he doesn’t tell nacho that he’s heard he’s smart because nacho says “Salamanca family” Lalo casually says “your going to die” but it was for real, he credited nacho after mentioning Salamanca family but his move was sinister. Lalo is very intelligent. He would never tell nacho how it is he wanted to test nacho to see if he would stupidly take the food and die. People with high IQ like lalo work mysteriously

this scene is so badass, the cut to nacho looking confused at the new and lively music blaring loudly from the kitchen, the cook and his counter looking reasonably scared at him sitting perfectly. Something evil is happening before we even know whats going on. Also, the "youre gonna die" is such cool foreshadowing, this show isnt as good as breaking bad, but it comes damn close, and thats saying quite alot on its own. vravo bince

Ah man its like Lalo knew and that "Your gonna die" line was promise. But the show proved he didnt know until the end at least.
Lalo = gato just got more and more elaborate as the series went on. Even before they got to his catnaps, they had him literally batting at a loose wire on a bedspring.

It's crazy how stressed Nacho would be in these situations with Lalo, like when Lalo tells him to go back up the road 6 to 7 miles, that would make me think for some reason he wanted to kill me and was gonna dump my body there, imagine that situation. Before he explained about Saul's car breaking down there was no way to understand whats going on in Lalos head
If nacho wasn't forced to play both sides him and Lalo would've been an unstoppable duo

Best part of the Lalo character is how he's unbelievably positive and yet extremely dark/dangerous at the same time. I wonder how much of that was written in vs improvised by the actor.
