Think of the Rockford, Ill. massacre as but one example of what unhinged people with knives running around neighborhoods of single family residences are capable of. More proof? There was a brutal badgecam video released from Las Cruces of an officer getting stabbed to death by a knife-wielding homeless crazy. The cop let his guard down and the suspect ran up and murdered the cop before he himself was shot and killed by a good samaritan.

Sad case but such is s good reminder that the likes of beanbag shotguns can be useful so that lethal loads don't have to be used by default. Such costs more to purchase, train officers, and have said officers hired to begin with so that's the rub.
For the family, there's something called the 21 foot rule ( Tueller principle) and you can see this demoed in many videos online. Plus cops can usually, by department rules, only use lethal cover when at least two officers respond and are equipped accordingl (e.g. one on beanbag and one on pistol).
I learned from Donut that cops don't OC people they plan to take into custody due to contamination and their also being diminished.
Plus you don't meet a knife with a non ranged tool.
May he rest in peace and my heart goes out to his family and the responding officer.
