anyone claiming that Rowen Atkinson's acting career took a dive when he played Mr Bean you should remember that it takes fantastic acting skills to pull off a character like Mr Bean,,

Mr Bean is also like the nemesis of Rowen Atkinson, Rowen Atkinson: a man with royal sounding name, amazing intellect and great a looking like proper english man.
But will say i do love Blackadder and Johnny English more than Bean.
"took a dive?" nah sir. he became world famous for that role and everytime someone discovers that he received top grades in science A levels, went on to university and study electrical engineering, and discover other brilliant shows he's starred in is just icing on the top.
@@MouseGoat I agree with your last sentence. That is why I claim that a man with such grand language skills and such an arch-English aura has wasted his talent to mimic Mr. Bean, a figure that is between ungentlemanly and outright nasty and whose comicality is tainted with bitterness.

@@theyneverknow that is assuming the hopeful jumper is willing to accept an answer and it isn't just a bitter, rhetorical question (alright, technically it's a command but you get me). You can't always save everyone.
@@theyneverknow Actually no! As someone with two attempts on my record, the second time I posed that question to a friend who was with me on the phone (though I was going to slit my wrists instead). She gave a response really similar to OP's, telling me that my asking for a reason meant death felt unavoidable to me, not like something I actually wanted. It genuinely helped me and of course she did say other things to keep me safe before someone could get to me, but that question made me actually sit back and think.
I'm not suicidal now (still at risk but I'm trying to get into a better place) and one of the most common things I say to myself when I start dipping back down is, "I'm worried I'm going to kill myself, and as long as I know I'm worried, I know I don't truly want to do it." It helps me get through hard days.
So this is actually a pretty great response to that! It just needs to be followed up by help in a short period of time.

Lord Eden - fair comment, as a Ben Elton sitcom it's much poorer than Blackadder 2,3 or 4, and Rowan Atkinson is playing a pale shadow of Edmund Blackadder.

This was very well written. Don't know why they did so few episodes. Rowan Atkinson's character here was sort of part Mr Bean and part Blackadder
The likes of Ben Elton tend only to do 2 or a few series because "that's what faulty towers did" silly if you ask me.

Sadly, Stephen Moore passed away in October 2019. A talented actor who had many roles because of the richness of his voice.
Oh, that's sad. I'll always remember him as the dad in The Queen's Nose.

This show was my first introduction to Rowan Atkinson's real voice and snarky style of comedy, as I was too young to watch Blackadder or much of his older work beyond Mr Bean at the time.

Spoils the punchline.
Easy way to get him out of that situation. Tell him that the fall won't kill him and it'd leave him paralyzed. That you've seen people fall from that height many times and that the drag force of the fall negates some of the gravity pulling you so it won't kill you straight out.
That might make him go up higher!

This is why I love British comedy. If this was an American comedy, he wouldn’t have jumped and she would be paraded across the city. But this being a British comedy, the guy jumped and the life goes on, brilliant.
It was that attitude and humour that saw Britain through the war in its darkest days. Comedy has a lot of power... though maybe not so much when some git nicks your VHS lol.
