Cedar Fair buying Paramount completely changed the company.
They were a chain built around 1 mega park, and a several small supporting parks with Knotts left to their own devices. It was set up like an airline spoke and hub model with everything funneling to Cedar Point. Suddenly, the chain got 5 parks that each attract over 2 million plus guests a year.
Cedar Fair had to drastically change their plans to be more distributive to maintain and grow these new large parks. This investment (and competent management) helped revitalize the former Paramount Parks. This however, left the small parks out to dry as they couldn't compete against the profit margins of the Paramount Parks.

    In 2006:
Hurricane Cat 5 at Myrtle Beach closed for good, and it’s trains were sent to Kings Island for Son of Beast:
Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia opened
Flight of Fear at Kings Dominion went SBNO and there were rumors that it could be sent to another park. But fortunately that ride later reopened that year
Italian Job Stunt Coaster opened at Kings Dominion
Geauga Lake removed their 1969 monorail at the end of the season along with Steel Venom and X Flight, in an attempt to pare back the park on a smaller level
Busch Gardens Tampa scrapped their classic 1976 corkscrew Coaster Python

11:42: in 2005, coaster enthusiasts all around the world cried and lamented when the fan favorite, well beloved Viper was torn down at Six Flags Great Adventure for no apparent reason. The following year, they were shocked to find out its replacement was a primitive and forceless wooden coaster called El Toro which lacked any excitement and intensity.

2006 was the year I rode my first roller coaster. I was in 7th grade on a school trip to Six Flags Over Georgia. I had been to the park all the time as a kid, but I had a phobia of roller coasters. I wouldn't even ride the kiddie coaster at the local fair. My friends decided the best way to break that phobia was with the brand new ride at the park, Goliath (13 year olds don't make the best decisions).

I was waiting for this episode! Holiday World is my favorite park, and the closest park to me. I was hoping that the Voyage would be on this list!
I remember being 8 years old and everyone bragging about how they were going to go on the Voyage in the summer (or, in the fall, bragging about how they did go on it. I'm glad such a small park (compared to the other parks on this list) gets the recognition it deserves. The Thanksgiving section was absolutely packed that year, especially considering the Voyage was one of a few other rides that had opened up the new section - Thanksgiving - to the park.

06 was a Cedar point year for me. Had season passes and those included entrance to Geauga Lake. I made my last ever trip to Geauga and sadly my first trip as an enthusiast and unfortunately my coaster buddy would get sick early in the day which resulted in very few coasters that day. It was my first and only ride on X-Flight at Geauga as well as my first and only rides on Big Dipper and Raging Wolf Bob's. Also learned how unreliable Dragster at CP could be, but managing to get a bunch of rides on it as we would B-line to it anytime we saw it testing. Probably made 10 trips to CP in total that year. Was probably one of the most defining years of my coaster obsession actually.

I was a lifeguard at Oceans of Fun in 2006, had a blast working there. It was the same year that The Patriot opened and in general there was just so much excitement in the park, not just from guests but from the management staff. Everyone was super optimistic about what laid ahead for the park. Hopefully they can recapture some of that excitement this year.

They were forced out of the fairgrounds for no reason, but at least the waterpark survived. I'm not sure if I went to Bell's in that final season, but I made several visits over the years. Yep! Six Flags thought they would get $1million per acre for AstroWorld's property. Slap N da Face to find Valencia NOT getting that much $$$ either. Citizens really fought for that park. Rumor has it that people were going to chain themselves to Texas Cyclone. There was a storm from the North approaching,. When I returned 2 hrs. later, the coaster was a pile of timber. When I returned I drove past there prior to its destruction on a Wednesday. This would be another event that changed 2006. This wouldn't be the 1st time MM was to go under. Before the sale to Six Flags Newhall Land was going to close it. Concerts starting bringing people in.

    Mack Hyper (Custom)
    Mack Wild Mouse (Custom)
    Intamin Accelerator (Custom)
    Vekoma Junior Coaster (335m)
    S&S El Loco
    They are also getting:
    Vekoma SFC (450)
Vekoma Boomerang (Clone of one at Tweedstyd, also duelling)
Intamin Surfrider (not confirmed but highly likely)

A nice collections of the events of that year.
However, I want to add a small correction to something inaccurate I have heard on TH-cam several times. Intamin's prefab wooden coaster tracks are not laser cut. They are CNC machined. It's likely that they use laser based measuring equipment to ensure the parts are made in accordance with the design, but it's still good old saws, drills and mils, just computer controlled. When Colossos came out, there was a documentary on German TV, showing how the Cordes company, who fabricated the track, did the manufacturing, and there was no laser cutting involved. All rotary tools and piles of saw dust.
Honestly, I am not even sure if you could cut wood that thick using a laser. Sure, laser cutting thin plywood is no big deal, but with wood that thick, I would expect to need a laser of such high energy that the top layer would go up in flames before the laser is all the way through. While laser cutting works great with steel, I doubt ti would work with thick wooden parts. But that last paragraph is just my personal understanding, I am no expert on laser cutting.

I remember one woman that had broken her sternum. She was crying and in a massive amount of pain. The train that was parked on the lift was put there so we could get the train of injured riders into the station, and also avoid further structure damage. Evac was not an option.

@@cincysportfan1 ah so the train on the lift was never actually going to go thru the course? I figured it was already dispatched and the lift chain was killed when the other train came back

Actually my manager and I were going to test ride it, because there were a few incidents leading up to it. As we were getting on, the train of injured riders hit the ready brakes and screamed to stop the ride. The decision was made that we were done at that point.

And plus, they found a groove with the park to make it more $$$. The events they had last year were a major hit and they plan on doing it again this year. So there’s something. Just not solid.
