Really, really sad to know she didn’t go to the second round. She is such a talented, natural musician. She let us listen to the sound she is listening to which is so liberating and free. It’s amazing she’s still so young… Not many young pianists can play like she does. Thanks for the beautiful music!
There are way too many competitors of Chinese decent in this competition, they have to make it “even”. Xiaoxuan Li is another fine competitor from Curtis eliminated.
I agree! It's shocking to eliminate such an enormously gifted player in first round! Her touch, her effortlessness, her slow, quiet passages: exceptional!
So true. What a shame. She let us listen to Chopin through her. She was the only one that was not full of herself, she was the mediator, the true performer😢
A huge disappointment. Her preliminary round performance was magic. I was looking very forward to hearing more from her. Same thing with Chelsea Guo. Some surprising decisions.
I have listened to a lot of the Chopins participants these days, and although all are incredibly accomplished pianists, this is the only one I would actually buy a CD from or go to a concert. Really love her play.
She certainly knew the dangerous drive while playing Fantaisie, but continuously and persistently pushed and successfully dragged listeners to her individual interpretation. Potent fantasy I have ever heard. Impressive. Concour is important, but it is just a concour. It never determines your whole musical ability. Nevermind. Nice to listen to.
ZITONG WANG - First round Time Stamp: 00:46 Nokturn cis-moll op. 27 nr 1 / Nocturne in C sharp minor, Op. 27 No. 1 07:11 Etiuda cis-moll op. 10 nr 4 / Etude in C sharp minor, Op. 10 No. 4 09:30 Etiuda C-dur op. 10 nr 7 / Etude in C major, Op. 10 No. 7 11:35 Fantazja f-moll op. 49 / Fantasy in F minor, Op. 49
Zitong played very well both musically and technically. She was studying at Curtis at the time and might've advanced if she was representing US. It was a pity that she wasn't given the chance to play Sonatas and Concertos. 😢
All were very well played, bravissimo! The nocturne and fantasie Zitong chose to play are very dark and deep. Some judges might love to hear these works. Personally I think both pieces of her music might be a little too fragmented, thus argurably hindering the music flow. But on the other hand, her designs on both pieces yielded some philosophical sense/feeling, like when listening to works by Brahms. Whether her designs are suitable to these pieces is highly subjective. One thing I can be sure of Zitong is that her music is very sophiscated, lyrical, and full of beauty. 👍🏻❤🎉
Looking into the modern history of the Competition, one can immediately recognize an ironic fact: the best pianists never won. Where are the winners of the past few competitions: Li Yundi (2000), Rafał Blechacz (2005), and Yulianna Avdeeva (2010)? Did they have a successful performing career? What have they contributed to the international piano scenes since their triumph? Philippe Entremont gave the winner Seong-Jin Cho the lower possible score in the final round and Cho still won in the end. So can he be regarded as he best? On the contrary, some of the “losers” of the Competition―Daniil Trifonov, Hélène Tysman, not to mention Ivo Pogorelich―have been enjoying enormous success as a pianist. Why have this happened ? What have the committee done to solve this problem? Nothing ! There are some questions that I always ask when I watch this Competition. I wonder if some of the jury members deliberately eliminate competitive contestants to increase the winning chance of their own pupils or the pupils of their friends. One should always remember that this is a competition that does not even have a set of selection criteria. Without having to declare conflict of interest, can each jury member judge in a fair and just manner? And they do not even need to bear any consequences for their “misjudgment”. Those jury members who eliminated Ivo were selected again after 5 years. Philippe Entremont is not in the jury this time. Again, are there any clear criteria for selecting the jury members? No. Why some were re-selected and some were not? I don't know. I would say that anybody taking this scandalous game seriously is a fool. Zitong played amazingly well. She could have played with fuller and deeper sound in the cantabile melodies. But she definitely doesn’t deserve to be eliminated in the first round. While we bemoan her elimination, we should be glad that she is now forced to stay away from this scandalous game.
Wunder and Geniusas had a better touch than Yulianna Avdeeva. Cho in 2015 was not the best performer. it did not fail, she had some outstanding interpretations, but there is something that does not convince me
That's what I thought too. I am very surprised and disappointed that she was eliminated so early. I think she has great potential and I hope to hear much more from her.
She is my top 3, and she could not enter the next Stage II! I think at least she is in the top 10! And she is being disqualified? This is so ridiculous! At the same time, some not-so-good pianists (I mean very not good) are qualified for the following round. I smell something really bad already. It seems like they let good Chinese pianists out a lot. And... yes, another part I should not say.
Although there are many passages that I liked, in general there is no Chopin tone in the forte parts (and she plays most of the fantasie TOO forte). Too harsh sound, thin and stringent, the rubato is too steep and doesnt reflect polish rhythm or even proper accelerando. The biggest problem with her playing is that in every piece she played, without any exception, the sound was uneven, in the same phrase you could hear suddenly one note too loud, then too piano, then louder the left hand when the right is supposed to be heard and the opposite. Despite being so virtuosic, she couldnt hold the melodic line, especially in the fantasie and she banged the piano too harshly like it was Allegro Barbaro by Barber. She has great talent but she is not suited to Chopin, at least for now. In fact, the 27 op.1 nocturne (she ignored at least half of the diminuendos and crescendos and the repeated notes were flat) and the fantasie (which was harsh and inconsistent both in tempo and dynamics) were probably the weakest of the participants in the stage. Sorry for the harsh critique, I just had to explain what every chopin specialist could instantly understand and stop people from demeaning the jury because they cannot grasp the reasons behind it. I think she herself can hear everything I said in her performance.
Not that I read everything you wrote, but what you said are the things that made her performance different from others, and more interesting and alive. She brings out certain notes to make music three dimensional, rather than 2 dimensional. I didn’t hear her live, so I cannot be hundred percent on anything, but still, her music, how she constructed it, was far more interesting. Chopin specialist??? I hope they are artists before they ‘specialize’ on anything. I’m sure she will be noticed by great musicians in the world and continue on her career. She made Chopin’s music alive through her.
how, in your opinion, is Chopin's tone? she executes certain passages with force, the rubato is adequate, the dynamics stand out. I don't see that her choice of notes to highlight is bad, especially in the OP. 49. OP 10 no 7 was a bit linked, and there you can see what you say, but let's remember that we are not in a midi interpretation. we are listening to pianists. highlights voices that I did not see in this piece
on the contrary, she is actually the only few of the competitors who knows how to play relaxed in real meaning. She sits still, no facial grimaces, her wrists very supple ( I don’t mean “visual suppleness” where pianists move their wrists around unnecessarily to “look” supple) she can play pianississimo the way she does only because she has real technique. Usually pianists struggle for years to gain those techniques , but she seems to have them already, which amazes me.. just so you know.
Really can't understand the jury's decision. She and Kaoruko Igarashi definitely deserve the second stage than a LOT of the pianists who passed.
Really, really sad to know she didn’t go to the second round. She is such a talented, natural musician. She let us listen to the sound she is listening to which is so liberating and free. Such a shame she didn't progress to Stage II, she is a wonderful and sensitive Chopin player!

I feel very disappointed. I really love her playing.
Every time a musician like her gets eliminated I come to hate competitions, gets so disappointed 😥 Such a shame. Chopin is turning in his grave😢

One of my top 5, weird she did not progress to second stage.
The biggest misjudged by jury! I have seen her in grand final! What a shame!!!
ikr she was SO GOOD
Incomprehensible. Her performance was way more nuanced, mature and interesting than many of the artists who made it into the 2nd round.
So true. What a shame. She let us listen to Chopin through her. She was the only one
that was not full of herself, she was the mediator, the true performer😢
Incredible young talent!
Love her techenique and how she understtands and expresses Chopin. 加油!!!
How didnt she progress to Stage II ? Really unacceptable . I thought she will be finalist without doubt . What a shame
totally agree with you! What a shame!
A huge disappointment. Her preliminary round performance was magic. I was looking very forward to hearing more from her. Same thing with Chelsea Guo. Some surprising decisions.
I think she didn't in second stage must because her op.49. But l still think she is a good pianist

I agree with you. people need to thing twice about this game
@@Calvin-xz9ug hayato can play pirates of caribbean, not chopin, his playing is so noisy

Seong Jin Cho is best pianist
Zitong Wang played too past
too hard , no soul
too harsh sound.

She is playing so well
That's what I thought too. I am very surprised and disappointed that she was eliminated so early. I think she has great potential and I hope to hear much more from her.
She plays really well, and she’s adorable too.
9:00 her C minor ending arpeggios, the clarity and sharpness !
Bravissimo!! She is only one.
She is the only one for me too. Not that I heard everyone, but her playing was so satisfying that I didn't need to listen to any others after her.
gra nie sprawia jej trudności, z przyjemnością patrzy się na ręce dobrze ustawione, pianistka z przyszłością
brilliant
Top 5 indeed !!

Very mature for her age!
Agree 100%. Amazing maturity and control of her emotions.

Smells very bad, there were quite a few worse pianists that moved to stage 2.
My top 3 was her, Jun Li Bui and Bruce Liu. I'm shocked they didn't let her through
@@janstrzakowski6598 i thought the best nocturne op 27 no 1 was by bruce liu, until i heard this performance
It doesn't make sense she did not get through to the second round...
多彩的音乐世界!赞!
25会参加吗?真的很喜欢啊
Bravo!
This pianist has a formidable technique, but she doesn't have much lyricism. The study op. 25 was played as Clementi. Liszt is more suitable for her.

Zitong WANG why unpass round1: Too Fast, Too Hard, soft no soul, skills not all-ok, just like a practiced mid-good student.
