As a Norwegian, I can confirm that brown cheese on bread is a breakfast staple! I / my family rarely eat brown cheese on bread though, but it's a must when we make waffles at home.
We have it in Sweden to. Here it is called "Messmör". The waffles looks like traditional Swedish ones to.
Tokyo has so much cafes, you could probably do cafe episodes for 20 years lol.
Literally I'm beginning to think that I'll be too broke to go a month in Japan in October, but watching this cafés video makes me think that I should put everything on my credit card and still go to Tokyo and bankrupt myself. lol and if I'm brankrupting myself, I will blame seerasan
Of course I'm kidding about the last sentence
That first latte from Fuglen looked so perfect
Norwegian here, brown cheese is a very normal thing here - you have a bunch of different types and it's kind off a thing everyone have in their fridge😅. Combining the Waffles and the brown cheese is a must try☺️ Love your videos, you have such an awesome energy!☺️
Love me some coffee and tea! Can’t wait to cafe-hop in Tokyo! Thanks so much for your content - love it!
Thanks for the great video and a list of places to visit when I finally make it back to Japan! As someone who has been deeply ingrained and working in the Specialty Coffee scene since 2006 in the US, it's really cool to see these places through the lens of a "regular customer ", if you know what I mean. The US was integral for the 3rd wave movement, while Scandinavia joined in and helped take "coffee science" to the next level, but... the Japanese and their dedication to craft, and especially, service, really takes this kind of coffee experience to even greater heights and have set the standard for a handful of years now.
My wife and I visted Torahebi in May and Campbell was our barista. He's great.
Thank you for posting this. Wonderful video. I have come to appreciate Tokyo as one of the greatest cities in the world and my favourite thing to do there is just walk around and take it all in. This sort of video is a really helpful guide to enjoy this wonderful city.
Coffee Supreme! Glad to see one of the Wellington Coffee Brands I frequent representing New Zealand :D They've even got all the merch, style and the same La Marzocco machine!
Enjoying my breakfast and coffee with you. Coffee culture was nowhere near as advanced in the early 90s in Osaka. No Starbucks in 1992 😮
I actually didn't drink coffee until after Uni when I moved to Japan. But every vending machine and family restaurant had iced coffee and I've been drinking it ever since.
Must have been a great video to make! 😊
The much anticipated sequel to the Kyoto Cafes video. Great stuff! Hope to see more.
That coffee definitely looks good I'm gonna try that place someday
These coffee videos are really good 👍
Stumptown is out of Portland. Really great coffee!
Absolutely love hearts light coffee! Ken is amazing and super cool
Agh, I have to go to bed but Sarah uploaded a video! 😂
We’re going to Japan in October and you e just added so many places to our list. Thanks for the great video
I don't even drink coffee but you made this Video so entertaining and relaxing that i stil really enjoyed it.
Hi Sarah ahhh perfect timing thanks for sharing great cafe locations in Tokyo I definitely need to check out the Norwegian style. Please stay well cheers!
Your videos never cease to amaze. So many macro and micro adventures to be had in Japan.
Stumptown is from Portland! So cool that it's being used all the way over there!
I passed the Fuglen in Asakusa last time I was in Tokyo and it looked so good I was bummed I didn't have time to go in! Glad to know it's worth it for next time though.
You actually talk about coffee shops that nobody talk about, and all of them look beautiful! And I trust your coffee judgement just from the fact that you’re an Australian 😌😌
Love the coffee culture in Japan. Even the chains like Tully's or Excelsior are so nice.
More cafe videos please. I loved the vibes and variety.
Really great video! I need Sarah in my life like I need my morning coffee every day ☕😋 I'm so glad to see that the cafe culture in Japan is still strong, not overtaken by Starbucks everywhere. My wife and I will be in Osaka later this summer and we'll be sure to check out some cafes around Kansai while we're there. It'll be my first time back since 2008. I'm so looking forward to it!
It sounds like you've only covered the tip of the iceberg with the number of cafes in the Tokyo area. Definitely please do more. Always great content.
Thanks for sharing the sites Sera! maybe the next idea for a video can be a one-coin lunch/dinner options?
Nice to see coffee places from various countries. Norway as Scandinavian country felt so near one. I remember when I travelled with my friend many years ago to Lofoten.
Fuglen🐦....amazing and the brown cheese with Norwegian waffles and straeberrys , still dream bout it.
I love the "Japan cafes" playlist you're building!! Can't wait to see more episodes of this from different areas in Japan❤
this is a perfect list!! and i totally trust seera a fellow aussie for good coffee /coffee shop recs 😋
I live like 5 minutes from paddlers but I've never been there despite walking past it everyday haha. one day I'll step in because it looked good. also the sandwiches/ toasties in this video looked amazing
As a Japanese person who has traveled to many countries, I haven't found a city with food and drinks as delicious as Tokyo😀
Thank you for the new recommendations! Adding this to my list for my next trip in December!
You must have the jitters by now drinking so much coffee😂❤️
Amazing video!, better than others, I enjoyed very much. Thanks Sarah!
The bread in that first shop looked - and sounded - amazing. Haven't seen such bread in Japan before. 🤤
sometimes日本語を話してくれて嬉しい
These suggestions are so great! I especially like finding places that are quiet/cosy as a break away from bustling Tokyo! 💖
Great to see your content really taking off over the last 12 months. This is a great video.
I love the brown cheese on apple slices
I hit the play button sooo fast when I saw this vid pop up, coming to Tokyo in November with my girls, thank you so much! I’ve saved so many of these coffee shops to my list of places to check out, sending you 🤗
@@seerasan That coffee definitely looks good I'm gonna try that place someday
Brunost /Mysost etc is actually no real cheese but made of the "leftover" whey which is cooked down for hours and the sugar in it caramelizes over the time. Just before the end sheep's/goat's milk or a mix of it is added and cooked with it to give it its more interesting richer flavour. Then it is cooled and eaten sliced.
You could make it at home, if you have the time but the smooth not grainy texture is hard to achieve.
Eaten on bread, on pancakes, cheesecakes, cookies, milk shakes, ice... or savory on sandwiches, pasta, pizza, in sauces it is very nice
They all look so good! Would love to grab a coffee with you❤❤
Really loved the recommendations thank you 🙏🏻✨
Fantastic video! I love coffee & Japan! ❤
i have realised one of my favourite things on youtube is seeing seerasan enjoying herself with good food and drink...and brunost is a must have breakfastitem in norway....LOVE 💙
Adding this to my list of trip ideas for places to stop and get some good coffee.
Was staying next to Kiti-sando coffee and Cibi for about a month, but Cibi was my favorite due to the nice food and the in-house made baked goods! Also, highly recommend Shige no Coffee in Sumida, he roasts his own beans and is super nice to chat with!
Great job! You made me want to travel to Tokyo and visit some of these cafes.
Lots of cafe in Japan cool vibes.🤙🏽🌞😎
Rad channel. Been watching for awhile now. Heading back to Japan for my second time this fall. Excited to check out all these new spots thanks to you. Keep up the amazing work!
Awesome video! Can't wait to visit some of these cafes when I'm back in Tokyo ☕
Thanks! I'm excited to try some!
Pro tip for home matcha making, if you sift your matcha along with sugar and mix well before adding the water, it helps result in a cleaner dissolving process
Would love to try the coffees at Torahebi, but Coffee Supreme seems like such a good daily cafe.
Life without coffee is unbearable - so I'm relieved to know Japan is up to the task of sustaining my addiction! 😁☕️ These shops all look like a lot of fun - cheese toasties! 👍
It is cool that the barristers have learnt coffee making in Australia. I have traveled a lot an not many countries can do coffee like Australia!
I love all your videos about Cafes! I'm probably 2-3 years away from visiting Japan again, but I'm making a list on my Maps app with all your recommendations so I can visit some of them in the future 😀 Also, great filming! This video was not only useful but beautiful as well.
このサムネ100点満点😊
Please do a non-coffee/matcha version of this!❤
They sell that brown cheese at the European grocer near Parliament Station here in Melbourne for those looking to try it. It's like a dessert ngl.
i'm in melbourne and mostly go to japanese cafes here these days 😄. but planning a trip to tokyo so will definitely check some of these out!
Great video, yes us Melburnians do love our coffee ☕️. I am very interested in trying the coffee/science cafe that looks interesting. Thanks for another great video. 😊
Omg I love this ! Your videos are always so researched ! I loved hearing about Fuglen origin and also seeing Torahebi, i finally understand where those Tiger coffee beans bags sold at Loft Ginza come from !
OMG! Keep up the awesome coffee cafe search.
CIBI as in chibi! I've been to the Melbourne location a couple times, was good.
One thing I've always thought about cafes in Japan is that they are pretty expensive for Japanese people, whereas food is good value. Coffees in Japan are more expensive than Australia while the minimum wage is half of Australia's. I wonder why?
Our personal favourit was Glitch Coffee and Roasters GINZA, also mermaid coffee is very nice with a huge been selection
I was wondering if you had filmed all of this coffee drinking in one day or not 😂 Jealous of all the neat and unique places for different speciality coffees you can go to! America doesn't nearly have this kind of variety. Very few and far in between as well as the quality. I think living in Italy for 6 months had me spoiled. Loved the video! This one will have to be saved for places to go when I eventually get a chance to visit japan!
This was filmed over several months 😎 Love how obsessed Japan is for coffee, such a blessing!
I'm curious how the coffee scene is in Europe, going there for a family trip soon so I'll find out ☕
Cool stuff! I’ve only been to half of these so far 😅 I’ve got some catching up to do once I go back to Japan haha
I live in Norway and love brown cheese on waffles or on freshly baked scones! ❤
The fuglen livery is fantastic
I really like the shot of you sitting at the cafe and someone’s across the street, that hits different
Brown cheese is the best. Having it around once a week on bread, but its the absolute fav with the norwegian waffles! (if you want the ultimate norwegian experience you have norwegian waffles, with brown cheese and jam (raspberry or strawberry), with sour cream on the side. c:
What a lovely video. You are clearly passionate about coffee :-)
It's great that there's quite a number of specialty coffee stores in Japan - no surprise also that some of them are set up by people from overseas including from Australia.
Ngl, seeing this makes me a bit unsure about my decision to book accommodation with breakfast included in Tokyo when you could just go to a local cafe for brekkie (or if being cheap, the conbini), although I guess it does save some money over the long run - cafe food and coffee can get a little pricey having it every day hahaha.
I'll see if I can try at least a few of these places on my upcoming trip - should also try more variants too; always seem to err towards a chai latte in Australia for some reason.
More of this pls! I need to discover more cafes other than starbucks and blue bottle, which are not great cafes😂
Fuglen Asakusa is one of my favourite cafes in Tokyo! Their norwegian waffle is good👍Will give Fuglen Tokyo a try next year.
Great video by the way!
I always trust another Australian's coffee recommendations. I've been to different locations of Cibi and Supreme. I spent way too much money at both of their cafes when I was studying there last year.
Amazing video ❤
Love ur videos! Coming to Japan next month, please share more on food - top omasake, top wagyu places. Thank you!
Ooh this video is so straight up my alley! I love love love lattes and now I'm fantasizing about visiting alle coffee bars you've shown here on my next trip to Japan! But I don't like brown cheese (my partner is half Norwegian, but brunost is just so weird!), so I'll skip that. Also, so funny - I recognized Ben Richard's book in the frame with you because I've bought it myself! Would be funny if you run into him sometime ^^
Awesome list! Will definitely check it out next time we're there. (PS: Love the Tupac bunny ears! 😄)
I’m loving the variety and editing in your videos! It’s also so cool to see some of the different cafes, and styles of coffee in Japan-very nice! I need to try a Matcha latte, it looked so good :)
Thank you! Editing these videos is a lot of fun for me! While editing this all I wanted was that Matcha & Hojicha latte again 🍵
I gotta reach out to an old colleague of mine and send him your video link -- he was one of the guys that designed the original POURSTEADY machine. I was so shocked to see it in this video, because I didn't know they were still making them!
Oh no way, that's a crazy coincidence! Very cool invention ☕ Had no idea these existed until I spotted them at Kitasando Coffee!
The Matcha was so good, I forgot I went to all 3 of them, SkyTree, Miyashita Park, and Harajuku. No wonder I never went to bed until after 1 am there.
New subscriber here, love your videos! Thanks for sharing your experience
Love me some gjetost, had a recommendation to use it when making apple pie, worked like a charm.
Stumptown coffee is from Portland, Oregon. We have many coffee roasters here and big coffee cultures!
Next time you go to Heart’s Light, ask Ken-san about the story of the latte glasses 😊
Hi Sarah! Thank you for showing some of your favorite cafes! We’re two norwegians coming in November. We’re definitely checking out the Fuglen ones, since we have been many times to the Oslo one and it’s so good! 🍁
I can’t stand the taste of the norwegian brown cheese so I’m impressed with you trying it! I feel like its the norwegian equivalent of Marmite 😂
Would love to visit the Oslo one someday!
Honestly, the brown cheese wasn't exactly my cup of tea but I enjoyed trying it in the moment haha
Shout out to Frankie's that was in Shinokitazawa. Incredible Melbourne style coffee that also had aussie staples like lamingtons... But sadly it closed during rona times.
Miss it a lot.
I have to try the Norwegian one next time I'm there, my go to place when in Tokyo is Breakfast & Brunch Jade5 in Hiroo, they have awesome breakfast pancakes. 🤤
Love this! Do you also have like bakery/pastry shops recommendations in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto?
I love your videos and I'm going to Japan this November so I'll be adding all these great cafes in my itinerary. Thank you!
I love brunost cheese. Def get it on the waffle with jam, its perfection. Every time we go to Norway we stuff ourselves with brunost cheese. :)
The number of Tokyo Cafes I've hit up since living here is uncountable, but here are a few of my favs that I'd love to share with my fellow coffee/cafe lovers 🫶☕ Which was your fav? Did I miss any you recommend, LET ME KNOW! (There might be a part 2 for Tokyo in future 👀)
Fun fact "Cibi" is Italian for "foods" and is pronounced "Chee-bee".
The Matcha Tokyo my fave! I always go for the Japan premium and yeah, I wish I could drink it every morning 😁 I will try that Houjicha next time
@@monotonehell Cibi in Melbourne is pretty awesome too
Mia Mia in Higashi-Nagasaki is the best in Tokyo IMO. Its run by a bloke from melbourne, even has anzac biscuts!!
@seerasan I've just finished travelling through Japan using loads of your cafe recommendations 🙏
