I Built a Time-Ball (Because Greenwich's Broke)

- 'A Great British Adventure' is a series of videos that have taken me all over the UK. The videos are based on the new A-Z 10p coins - they aren't videos about the coins, rather, they use them as a sort of contents page. They will be uploaded every 3 days for the next 3 months or so, although there will be some miscellaneous videos in between.

I should have mentioned - there are 3 or 4 letters I haven't / am not making a video about, and 'F' was one of them, as is 'I' which would be in a couple of videos time. I couldn't find any topics / approaches that interested me, and I didn't wanna waste time making a video I wasn't enthusiastic about. See you in 3 days for 'H'!
Of course! We wouldn't want to watch any videos of yours that you weren't excited or enthusiastic about! These videos have a lot of charm because of how much you love these things.

Chris I absolutely love your approach to life and I have to say I am jealous of your enthusiasm, creativity, and just the will to do all these things. Here I am with a bunch of time on my hands and I spend it watching youtube videos in my bed, while you build a freaking ball tower thing on your shed - I am amazed! And also laughed so hard at it :) Love your channel and your personality.

I visited the Greenwich Meridian back in summer of 2016 and the ball wasn't working then either! I LOVE you for making your garden time ball.. Now, I have seen it all.

I used to work in the Observatory gift shop. At the top of the time ball mast is a wind speed monitor. More often than not when it doesn't work it is because the wind speed at the top of the mast is to fast to safely raise the ball.
There's also one in Edinburgh on Nelsons Monument. Got replaced by the 1 o'clock gun due to fog causing poor visibility but still works.
You're one of the most wholesome TH-cam creators out there! Amazing diverse and interesting content. Lots of strange and remarkable things explained in a fun and playful way. Like a Tom Scott for younger people, but adults can enjoy this as well.

What camera do you use for stopmotion?
Stopmotion is filmed on an iPhone. It's just a series of pictures played in quick succession, so the quality is more than high enough. I just find phones a lot easier (I'm not particularly into cameras)

Thanks a lot! Work on multiple videos at once! This was filmed on the same day as 'London's Secret Buses' and the next video about the Houses of Parliament. From there, I write all 3 scripts / record voiceovers in one day too, and then film all the stop-motion / edit it all over the next few days. So I can make 3 videos (which I'd upload over 9 days), in maybe 4 or 5 days :D
time ball that's really good about in london ok so that ball start's at 12:55 to 12:58 at 1:00 it did not rise why the time ball broke because of greenwich's broke

The time ball was invented in Edinburgh by Captain Wauchope. The time ball was connected to the time gun at Edinburgh Castle in 1861.
