    Our family enjoyed that hike. How do you like the REI Flash backpack? I love it but am having problems with the hip belt loosening.

    • @jlrobson1
      @jlrobson1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have heard of other people having that issue with the hip belt. So far it has been pretty good for me. I do find myself readjusting the hip belt somewhat frequently so it may be a loosening issue like you mention. I bought it as a substitute for my osprey exos while it’s out for repairs and am almost preferring the Flash. I have about 100 miles in with the Flash and would recommend it as an affordable ultralight pack.

    Did you have to deal with any ticks/mosquitoes?

    • @jlrobson1
      @jlrobson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely none when we went!

    what water filter system did you use? new to backpacking here, looking for good recommendations. What was the best food option you brought with you?

    • @jlrobson1
      @jlrobson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a Sawyer water filter - always have! They screw onto the top of Smart water bottles which is nice if you don’t have the time to sit there and filter for 10-15 minutes, you can just drink it straight from your bottle through the filter! If you’re doing fall backpacking just make sure to sleep with the filter in your sleeping bag to avoid it freezing because that will damage them beyond use.
      For this trek I got us Backpackers Pantry freeze dried meals that were delicious! For other trips we will do something as simple as rice sides, ramen, etc. breakfast is usually instant oatmeal and protein powder with coffee for extra calories. My favorite lunch option is a meat (like summer sausage) in tortilla with cheese and I bring little packets of hot sauce from Taco Bell to flavor it up a bit!

      Also, I’ll have a “what I pack and prep for backpacking” video up in the near future but for now I would recommend you checkout “Homemade Wanderlust”, her TH-cam channel has a ton of great videos on backpacking basics and food ideas!

    Hey Julia, Planning a trip early October to Picture Rocks. Quick question, what was the temperature like?

    • @jlrobson1
      @jlrobson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For our trek it was perfect, mild temps in the 50s and nights didn’t get below mid 40s! We had no rain and sunny weather the whole time too! Obviously it can be variable but I thought it was a wonderful time to go!

    Great video. I'm trying to plan Pictured Rocks next Sept/Oct. Any recommendation?

    • @jlrobson1
      @jlrobson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s definitely the BEST window to go in for fall color, mild temperatures and little to no bugs! We went in early October! If you are planning on backpacking like we did I STRONGLY recommend doing it in 3 nights, 4 days. We did feel rushed on our 22 mile day and couldn’t afford to take any side trails to waterfalls or anything that day so that we’d get to the campsite before nightfall.

    Also what camera did you use?

    • @jlrobson1
      @jlrobson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I film everything on my iPhone 11! I do have a little tripod that I bought for it, it’s light and small so easy enough to pack and carry along.
