The title of Sunday's sermon by Pastor Doug Lain is, "The Very First Church Conference." The scripture lesson is Acts 15:1-11. It was bound to happen, and it did. Eventually, there was going to be a debate as to who should be allowed to join the Christian Church, and under what circumstances. For the early church the controversy was over letting in Gentiles. Did they have to become Jewish first, like the very first disciples were, or not? What is necessary for becoming a Christian? What is not? The first century church wrestled with this in Acts 15. Oddly enough, we still struggle with a lot of the same questions today.
