      This song brings me to tears with comfort. It's like I have been looking for a way to express facts of life, and be able to tell everyone it's alright to be scared. But that it isn't necessary to be scared at all. That, we are all figuring it out. But then he articulates in such a way that I never could, and then shows me the rest of the way home. A home I never been to before but have always wanted. I will hug Reggie if I ever am lucky enough to have the opportunity.

    I'm finally at the point where I can hold back tears to this song. The first time I heard it on his Spatial special it was essentially everything I needed to hear at that exact point and time. I can never truly express the happiness that this man creates within me and the utterly brilliant messages he slips into his acts. He's made me laugh, love, cry and think deeply. I don't know what else is more important in our existence than those thing, let alone another single person whom of which can simultaneously provoke them all in a mere few minutes. I love you Reggie, and thank you sincerely for being who you are.

    God i fucking love Reggie Watts. I'd honestly have this song played at my funeral, it's that good. The way he expresses the absurdity of the human condition in relationships and passing on the ultimate message, all while bopping our head and singing the most beautiful melodies. Soo goooooood

  • @Posterizashin
    @Posterizashin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    The song has legitimately made me think deeply about the way relationships and love is portrayed in the modern era. He talks about the way humans can be so possessive over another person and it makes me disgusted that I ever felt like that. The person I loved broke up with me and moved on to somebody else who she does love and it fucks me up to think about but since I found this special on Netflix I've realize that no one knows what love is. Since it ended I've resented her very much and grew a large amount of hate in my heart but I realize that happiness is complicated and so is love. This song is so cheery in it really brightens my day, the song doesn't have any answers and neither do I but that's why I love it so much.

      I love this. I've tried to show this to some of my therapists, but none have been able to recognise why I'm drawn to this type of music/comedy. The relevance of musical satire cannot be underestimated. It helps us to realise just how we mask our issues in comedy or music, rather than confront. It takes something like this to realise just how much we cover or mask with "humour". Good on you for being one of the few to recognise this

    I rediscover this song on accident every few years and every few years I've grown a few more years and this song has a few more years of meaning. The last few years have been finally going to therapy and allowing myself to recognize that I've been hurt and that I've hurt other people and that I've done awful things that I never got caught for and that none of those things is a condemnation of the rest of my life. To quote Watts from this video, it's not about being good. It's about knowing why you're being good in the first place. Do it all in love.

  • @stopsmellingbad
    @stopsmellingbad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    Reggie Watts is insanely, insanely talented. But him pulling off this song off the dome is absolutely insane. He describes it in an interview:
    “This is a song about apples.” That’s it. That’s about the extent of it. Then I just laid down something. It was like, Oh, that’s a really nice baseline and it definitely evokes a certain type of melody. Then, I just got lucky that the words were just being very fluid at that point. So, ideas that I had been thinking about relationships and what does that mean to be human beings and where we’re at in this modern day and what is a relationship? All those types of things just kind of came out.
    Stream of consciousness revelation on another plane, even for Reggie.

  • @NME_beatbox
    @NME_beatbox 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I don’t know if anybody noticed that.. but he used the same chord progressions that you can find in any chart/commercial “LOVE” song, but he used that in a sort of a funny up-tempo key.
    And then he started talking about love and personal relationships in the opposite way that those superificial and indifferent chart songs do. And he did it with his unique humor represented also by the up-tempo beat.
    He talks about real shit which usually is difficult to talk about, but through humor he makes us also understand that there’s no reason not to face ourselves, our demons, our issues, and our insecurities with love and serenity.
    Big up Reggie.

    "Don't use those things against another person, remember every person is an opportunity to learn more about yourself. because you are listening to where they are coming from and they represent a reflection of yourself"
    Words that changed my life at one point and still brings tears to my eyes for how profound and powerful the lyrics are. It's surreal how infinitely precise this song explains my early relationships and my youthful ignorance. I wasn't doing it consciously or intentionally but looking back now I can see clear as day I was not treating the relationships and partners with the value and respect they deserved... I think a large % of relationships directly based out of your insecurities. This brand new thing called love that blows your mind/heart/soul out of the water... and it's so beautiful and powerful and unique that you don't want to ever lose it.
    It does feel amazing to feel partially addicted to your partner, in more than just an emotional or sexual way. Learning about a person your genuinely interested in can be addicting. Then there is that honeymoon phase where both of you are compromising and doing everything for each-other just to try and out satisfy the other, it overtakes all sensibility. Especially when its your first true love.

    This is something everybody should know. He actually created a song that describes how we are, and how we could be. Not taking things for granted, appreciate and comprehend people and the volatile environment we live in. Be happy, pursue that specific way that makes you happy. And not using this knowledge to take a leverage on other people who are just like you... trying to make sense on all of this. Just do everything with good spirit and heart.

    This is undeniably channeling. He enters a channeling state, "in the zone", and let's the words come out, NOTHING written. You have to listen to this, like many of Reggie's work, many times before you can grasp everything he speaks on. Absolute GOLD.

I swore to myself and to anyone I love that should I come to understand something that would change their life and make them better... I would tell everyone. And so... I tell everyone about this.
